I need help, i took role-playing a little too far...

I have an issue and dont know what to do with it, the questiion is when i started playing the game i made my char but got bored with it and tryed another class, the male version looked too femenine so i made it female (im a guy, btw)

So i was playing and got a random invite to a faction and accepted it, this was my first MMO and i didnt knew there were a lot of G.I.R.L.'s so i started to roleplay my char in faction chat pretending i was a girl irl and all, i was too embarrased to admit i was really a guy and that i made this super hot char and such, you know. Few days after i was being helped by a faction member that turned to be a GIRL and said it openly without embarrasment and i regret i didnt tell the truth in first place and felt it would be lame to uncover myslef at that point (i was lv 2x or so by that time with like 4 days of gameplay XP)

So i kept role-playing, I even grew this "split personality" and was able to really get into my character, to the point of accepting compliments and flirt with the guys and all. I became more active, kept leveling and this char became my main and i've been playing it for several months now.

The problem is i've made some real friendship bonds with some ppl, we tell each other's problems, make jokes and have fun together, and i really apreciate them and i know they like me too, and although i've been completely sincere in everything (except the being a guy part :P) i feel like i've been lying to them all this time and feel terribly guilty about it and i feel like telling them the truth at this point will really hurt and disappoint them cause i took it so far (i was maid of honor of one of my friends and gonna be also for another one soon :P) and im affraid they will hate me, i cant really explain it but we've grown really close; but i also want them to get to know the real me and be completely sincere. Real life sucks lately and i found a refuge in this game and those ppl

So i dont know what to do: keep up the role play, uncover myself, quit that char and start over again, quit the game without telling the truth, quit after telling the truth or what

Im really confused and im sorry for that boring wall of text and for any mistakes i made (english is not my first language), if you're still reading this please leave a comment or suggestion, they will be apreciated, even if they're from trolls because it will mean i cought their attention :D

    This brings back hilarious memories.

    I was not even Role Playing that I was a girl but this RL guy was interested I guess looking to hook up or something. So when I mentioned in faction chat that I was a dude he was pretty pissed. It took me weeks for him and I to sorta get back to normal and then after that he really never did. We would poke jokes from time to time but he was really butthurt about it. b:chuckle

    Actually, most people when they meet me think I am a girl and the reasoning they tell me is that I don't shut up when it comes to talking. Does that really make me out to seem like a girl?? Are RL guys less talkative then RL Girls??

    Well going back to the original thread, the easiest way to give it a solution, is to leave that character and start with another one (this time a male one, of course) and re-rolling that faction and re-making those friends. Anyway, no one could grant you that your friendship with your best friends will be the same again, maybe that's a little price you will have to pay for your mistake : /. Even so, I think that you would make really good friends again, if you take this solution, maybe not exactly the same persons who are your best friends now, but hey! if you was able to do so good friends once, you will be able to do it again.

    The hardest, solution would be to just tell the truth just as you told it here int he forum, I think that your friends will understand you, it was your first time in the online games world, and you ignored a lot of things when you made that mistake, so it's pretty understandable. This solution may have 3 results: one of them is that your friends understand you and excuse you, the other one is that they just say that they understan you and excuse you, but they actually don't consider you like they didbefore, and the other one is that they just don't exucse you and kick you from their faction.

    Me, I would recommend you to take the hardes solution, because if they forgive you, you will know that they really apreciate you a lot, and if they don't, so you will know that they don't apreciated you like you are, with your good and bad points, and everyone do has bad points! (even if some ppl try to pretend they dont > >). Whatever you decide to do, good luck with it ; )

    Although I do actually have to agree here that according to your story you haven't been passing yourself off as a girl for too long. My suggestion:

    If you want to be honest with your friends (and friends deserve honesty, right?) then you'd better do it now. The longer you leave it the worse it will get.

    I've lied, I've realised I've dug myself a deep ****hole, I've had only myself to blame and as such only had myself to get out of the hole I dug for myself in the first place. That's kind of what happens when a lie backfires.

    you could own up that you got caught up in the roleplay, apologise if anyone took this the wrong way but explain it doesn't change who you are. people will either accept it or rage at you. those who rage at you should really know better - on any online game you can never tell who is behind the screen

    if someone wants to play as a girl there is nothing wrong with that. if they choose not to say one way or the other what sex they are - it is their perogative. if however when asked they outright lie, well they have to take any fallout that comes when they are found out.

    Sorry that your life was that hard when it came to solving your own mistakes. But I believe that if someone have a problem, no matter what's the problem's reason, it's not bad that he/she ask for help, and it's not bad that people try to help. And it do happens sometimes in real life, not everyone is egoistic and cold, so what you sayd hurted, yah, but it wasn't the truth.

    If you were roleplaying, then what's wrong with being a girl? Male chars play girl chars all the friggen time. Now, if you for some reason had a relationship outside the game with people, then duh, lying is stupid, but if they had vent or skype or TS or anything like that I dunno how you could disguise it for long. If it wert that far, they are just gullible and stupid.

    Just to add, as well, there are plenty of girl chars playing male chars. I have a few friends who are girls in realz who play male wizards and male clerics. My girlfriend made a male wizard which married my female archer. Unless it involves real life, outside-the-game stuff, people need to relax and understand it's a fricken fantasy game.

    Bottom line: when you lie to people, particularly to friends, you are digging your own hole. I never said you couldn't ask for help to get out of it, did I? Tell me where I said you couldn't ask for help. I was merely giving the response everybody here is actually giving:

    He has to climb out of that hole himself. HOW he does it is his choice, but he has to do it HIMSELF.

    Therefore, what I said was no word of a lie, and you might want to consider reading a little bit more next time.

    Maybe am too late to offer anything useful, nevertheless my approach to this entire "mess" (if its actually one) would be as follows:-

    1.) Tell the truth to everyone in faction chat

    2.) Those who are really your good friends will understand and forgive you. No need to worry about them. They themselves would know its all good fun and laugh it off :)

    3.) Those who rage and shout at you without understanding and forgiveness arent really the so called good friends and hence can be dropped. No worries here either, unless you care about someone who doesnt care about you b:shocked (There are quite a few of those cases)

    Conclusion: The truth does not hurt that much really, if only its given a chance b:victory.
