does anyone think it will survive the better cold dry spell looming?
with new games such as Forsaken world which seems eagerly waited for and lord of the rings which is goin f2p, and many other games...not to sure on TERA tho
for this game with limited content and cash shop overrule will it be popular and survive when the new winter games are out?

You mean, will it survive next summer. Winter months are typically when a game like this would pick up again, especially with more content coming and new classes coming.
This is probably one of the most *thought out MMOs out there. This game engine is nearly 6 years old now? People are still playing and they are still adding content.
Forsaken World could just suffer the same problems as did two other games whose four letter names started with an A, due to having horrible interfaces (not likely) or not much real content (more likely), and will try to offer you grindless leveling, but if that's the case, starting off with a new game and offering to give you so much so fast, it's likely people will be bored of it in a couple weeks or a month or two and come back.
Sure the game engine, the graphics, textures, models, etc... are pretty dated on PW, but it has a lot more to offer than most of these newer games that look better but fail in just about every other department.
Sure I have hopes for it, but don't hold your breath. It might entertain you for a month or two, but who knows if it will have the staying power that PW has had.

how is it taught out?? limited content, random additions to the game that usually cause conflict or remove a fun aspect of the game0

I wonder why you bother caring, unless you are eagerly waiting for a possible downfall... In case you can wait for a long while. You are also smart in naming a rival MMO, which is forbidden around these parts.

Well, it all depends on the people playing. I enjoy PWI very much and the game is unique in my mind. I find no other mmo that I have played to compare to PWI. And if you are complaining about the gold and money issues, then you should not be playing. Most F2P games are heavily based off cash shop, and some players like to purchase things in the game, whether it is for coins or just for the heck of it.
If you are sick of PWI, just quit and play something else. there's always bound to be at least 1 person in the world that will continue playing even if you quit.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Hahaha... I hate people like you. The ones who make pointless threads on 'WILL PERFECT WORLDZ INTERNATIONAL SURVIVE FOREVA?!?!?!?//one!!?slash!?!1"
This game could last 100 years, this game could last another week. You can't guess when it will end, it's an MMO-RPG. Some fail, some stay standing. Some people leave, some people join. Sometimes more leave, sometimes more join. You can't guess the future, so give up. If a new game comes along, the player base might drop, then maybe a month later the player base rises. It has happened before, it is not a shock.
Leave it how it is and let fate play its role, you'll know sooner or later.

New MMO releases are a complicated affair. When a certain Korean f2p that aimed at PW's niche audience was released in North America as a p2p, many foresaw trouble for PWI. Far from it, this game has managed to slowly but steadily open new servers. That a certain other game the OP mentions is going f2p is not a sign of success really but that the thing is being put on life support. The game based on the flagship tabletop RPG went the same way and while it's managed to survive, i would think it more a cautionary tale than a success story. The overwhelming domination of the p2p market by the really big game we all love to hate has yet to be broken, and a large part of the gaming public have become hoppers which alternate between it and new releases. Only niche games have found relative success (you all know the spaceship game for the PvP sandbox crowd) and PW not only remains one of the best customization systems in all MMOs, but caters to both the Otaku and the tokyo chic crowd (yes, i'm well aware the game is Chinese...) not to mention it's large audience outside of North America.
The game the OP is not sure about seems to me the most likely to be succesful in the long run. The reason is it really is the only one with truly next generation features and already has a dedicated following in Asia.
Long story short, no, Pw will not be affected by new releases. It plays wonderfully in old rigs, doesn't require a credit card, can actually be played for free (unlike many other f2ps) and has an astounding distribution network for prepaid cards. It's lifespan will likely be prolongued for another half decade because of the slowdown in new technology (no new consoles or much improved computer hardware in the short to mid term) and its development costs are minimal compared to new releases. Show me a p2p that has more than doubled its number of servers in the last couple of years...
As much as we like to complain about PWI's customer service it really is one of the best when compared to other f2ps. Bugs and glitches are also relatively minimal, the game is old enough that it is thoroughly polished in some areas. And we've had major updates and expansions at a rate well above the industry standard. In an enviroment full of server merges and outright scams PWI, with all its troubles, is as stable as an MMO gets.0 -

Well said and agreed.I post in forums. This one and others. That's why I post.0 -
While many players have complaints with the way the company is managing things at the moment with regards to Perfect World International, it's easy to think that the game isn't going to make it to see 2011. Everybody seems to be threatening to move to Forsaken World when it comes out, nearly everybody has qualms with regards to this game.
But the basic matter of fact is that
1) Everybody threatening to move to FW is following a fad. The chances are, they play FW for a few weeks, maybe a few months, then they probably end up coming back here anyway. Not every player who says they're permanently moving to FW is actually going to do it. In fact I'm doubtful many of them are.
2) The people who complain on the forums about management (and yes that would be myself included) are a minority when you consider how many players of this game don't check forums. While I've met several lurkers in game who tell me they agree, they're still just part of this minority of forum visitors.
In the long run, it's really easy to think the game is going to die, but between points one and two, and the fact that this game is generally recognised as one of the best f2p games out there for the time, competition certainly isn't going to kill PWI, and the game will continue to run as normal.
If every veteran were to drop PWI right now, the game would carry on. Enough new people are finding and trying the game to eventually replace the veterans anyway and the game wouldn't hurt that much from it, and would continue to remain a playable MMO for a while to come.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Let's be realistic here....
"Alright, I'm getting close to my goal! I just gotta earn a bit more money and gain three more levels, then I'll have my end-game gear."
"Hey Ted, have you heard about NewGaim Online? It's supposed to be uber-sweet."
"Really? Oh, well then I guess I better just suddenly ditch a half year's work to go start some new game as a low level nobody, since you say this new game is so wonderful and all."
Look how many people hang around these forums and QQ all day about how the game sucks. Why? Cause they're hooked. (and also cause the game actually doesn't suck. :U ) They don't wanna admit it but the truth is they've come too far and invested too much time into the game to just give up suddenly.
This goes for any MMO, so I would actually argue that PWI has an advantage over new MMOs. What makes a person decide to pick up a new MMO depends solely on the rumors surrounding the game, the game's marketing and the player's first impression of the game. And luck. Especially luck.I AGOREY0 -

Don't want to admit what?
The ironic thing is a lot of people sit here and accuse people who complain of either being QQers out to make the company look bad or haters of the game, yet nobody ever asks why people sit down and complain.
I personally don't complain much about the game, I'm complaining about the management of certain aspects and about how the company is handling things, more so off the game then on it.
But of course, people don't usually bother to read when somebody lodges a valid complaint about the way some things are run around here and all they see is "OMG THIS GAME SUCKS BUT I STILL PLAY IT!!!" which is fail reading on their part. =P[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

That's kind of going off on a tangent from the point I meant to make.
My point was simply that even if people complain, they still like the game. Obviously, because they're still playing.
As for complaints posted on these forums, let's be serious here. 90% of them are very unspecific, petty in their complaint fashion and/or there's a severe lack of people posting and saying their customer service is taking ages or that a GM is corrupt or whatever. It's generally complaints similar in nature to "the GMs are never on." (just taking this as an example, not that it's a particularly repeated complaint) That may be true, but the question is if they're not doing other forms of work when they're not on. Only way we can prove they're not doing jack is if there's floods of people saying they recieve no response from the GMs or that they've watched hacks/abuse/scamming go unpunished for long durations of time without any action taken. We don't have that; instead we have people saying that the DQ price reduction could've been done better or the event could've been better. Complaints are fine, but what I rarely here is a "The GMs are lazy BECAUSE" or "the event is **** BECAUSE." Most of the complaints here are people who don't even provide any form of argument and/or counter-argument, which is all only made worse by the fact that most other MMOs honestly don't HAVE as many events as PWI period...I AGOREY0 -

I go off tangents nicely, but I just figured I'd slip that in there.
Generally, I have to agree. There are few well organised and well explained complaints on these forums, but even some of the disorganised complaints are rooted in valid points. For example, the complaint GMs never seem to be online isn't a well organised complaint, but it's rooted in the fact that they don't respond often if at all and that generally, when they do, they have nothing to say in the first place.
It's not an organised complaint, and they didn't bother to explain it, but it's a complaint rooted in the fact that GMs have become quite elusive lately and never have anything productive to say when they do happen to come out of hiding and make a post; which in turn leaves players feeling disheartened.
But again, that's a complaint not directed at the game, but at management. Many complaints about the game itself are full of **** and very, very few are valid. Even fewer are well explained. (The most recent couple of actual semi-valid and well explained complaints about the game? Locked down by this point. )
Anywho, I'll stop throwing this thing off topic any more then it was. My main point was that people say "OMG EVERYBODY SAYS THIS GAME SUCKS" when they see a complaint, without bothering to consider what the complaint is actually about. 90% of the time, it's not the game.
Therefore meaning all these complaints that are not about the game also means not as many people are actually going to quit as some people like to think.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

One of the most entertaining games me has played was the game known as "Pong" against other "awakened beings"(? translated required) without any inhibitors.
Of course we had to boost the bounce speed exponentially since the regular speed was too slow.
Me lost most of the time but it was still fun.
