Long story short, no, Pw will not be affected by new releases. It plays wonderfully in old rigs, doesn't require a credit card, can actually be played for free (unlike many other f2ps) and has an astounding distribution network for prepaid cards. It's lifespan will likely be prolongued for another half decade because of the slowdown in new technology (no new consoles or much improved computer hardware in the short to mid term) and its development costs are minimal compared to new releases. Show me a p2p that has more than doubled its number of servers in the last couple of years...

As much as we like to complain about PWI's customer service it really is one of the best when compared to other f2ps. Bugs and glitches are also relatively minimal, the game is old enough that it is thoroughly polished in some areas. And we've had major updates and expansions at a rate well above the industry standard. In an enviroment full of server merges and outright scams PWI, with all its troubles, is as stable as an MMO gets.

Why can't we have more well thought out, logical responses like this? I totally agree too!

You're delusional if you think that new mmo called a**n 'aimed at PW's niche audience'. Was supposed to steal a good part of blizzard players (like they did in asia with 3mil players) and even if its another asian grind blah blah still has much more players than this one. In fact is most played after blizzard one. PW isnt even the chart of top mmos played, far from it... just in the list of f2p and its not in top either. Another mmo hosted by ncsoft (L2), which is older and has the best graphics ever imo still has much more players than PW. GW, another mmo hosted by ncsoft is still a lot more played than this one.

Ppl from top games played aim for new games like tera/star wars/final fantasy, PW is just a little game that has its own litle community but far from comparing itself with the other ones on market which are p2p.

more server doesnt mean more players, most of them are from the other servers and still the population is decreasing a lot

why do i play this one? its not the graphics, has the worst engine and graphics i've seen imo. not gonna say anything about others f2p games which are beyond ridiculous. its just the thing that i can play with some friends and its free. when ill have time again to play for real ill jump again on p2p, much cheaper (only 15 buck compared with hundreds spent here by many players), much better support and anything else

I wonder why as well.... the game disappointed us all... Maybe the "best free to play experience" is just a lie. Yeah right XD. But this seem like the only game I like best... lol. I hope PWI gets rid of the gambling ways sooner or later...

thou i knwo i spent alot of my time on this game lving it up gettin gears....it has lost all appeal, wit such limited content in game, the ravaging cash shoppers getting things easy deters me, right now i am playing HOTK , which is alot more thought out IN MY OPINION
as the quests are adequet more things to do, money doesnt seem to be much of a problem, but PWI is loosing its luster by randomly adding in things just to keep players attention

Let's see; Asian grinder themepark with manga style animation, detailed char customization, opportunity based non-twitch PvP... They were going for the same audience PW has been succesful attracting... Those numbers you give were never proven and i would dare you to post such statements in MMORPG.com forums. The sole fact that someone would defend a company second only to SOE in MMO infamy amazes me. Claimed population numbers are not the bottomline, but quarterly earnings are. I bet PWE blows even Blizzard out of the water in bang for your buck. And number of servers, independent of the number of new players, do indicate a higher overhead which means one way or the other PW is turning a profit. How many p2ps do you think can make that claim?

@ GHealz, this game never did have a appeal to it, the only thing thats kept this boring game alive, is the fact that it was lucky enough to have customization in it, the game was once P2P, it failed...epicly, then went f2p with cash shop, eventualy pay to win as it is now,

the only thing that keeps ppls attention is buying nice lil pixel fashion, mounts, wings and w/e to keep u interested, and to the pvp fanatics out there, the thing that keeps them interested is the fact that gear is extreamly easy to get if u shove ur credit card into it (or lucky enough to be in a faction with alot of lands giving them to much money to play with) which gives them a bigger e-peen and easy pk on this game that has...the worst pk ever, linea....had some inst pk deaths, but this game now takes the cake with how easy everything is.

to those that are actualy interested in doing things in the game that dont involve stupid pixel cash shoping for fash and w/e, and idiotic easy gear/refines, there isnt anything, its just a matter of time before the new MMOs hit the shelfs in this winter 2010 and early 2011.

The game barely even launched as a p2p and that was in China, not in Western markets. One of the things that makes PW unique is that it's biggest customer base remains in the East, we are just along for the ride. It is Eastern customers that will determine what content will be made available in the future. This also means the game is quite independent of Western fads and trends, and with most MMOs bombing in the West that isn't such a bad thing. Those doomsayers that would have us believe the game is closing down are obviously unexperienced in MMOs, we would be having server mergers now if the game was folding in by the end of the year.

PW remains PWE's cash cow and as many efforts as they have made to create other more succesful titles, the fact remains even they recognize this game is a priority and still a long way from coming to an end. Complaints about RMT killing the game are ridiculous since this is a much bigger issue in p2ps where it is suposed to be against ToS. Gear is extremely easy to get with a credit card? Name me one game in which it isn't. Nice lil pixel fashion is something most games still don't get and which guarantees revenue without impacting game mechanics. Easy leveling is simply what the Western customer base has long demanded as the model seems to revolve around so called endgame and farming instances for gears. Thank Blizzard for this and many other unbalancing trends in contemporary MMOs...

And here's something that may come as a shock to those ignorant of gaming culture; MMOs aren't about graphics. Whoever says the technology exists to allow for both a persistent world and top notch graphics is lying and if you're looking for the latter you should get a console and start playing twitch based fps games. It's a whole other beast and attracts a very different crowd... Yes, there are games which are far more ahead in the graphic's department than others, but look at that game based on Robert E. Howard's fiction, to date still one of the most technologically advanced and graphically intensive and beautiful MMOs ever made. It was an espectacular failure. Once again, if you read the posts of the haters you'll realize that were most of the things they complain about addressed, MMOs would turn into console games. The thing is they don't get it.

PWI has a lot of troubles and issues, go back through my posts and more often than not you'll find me complaining. I'm no fanboy. But doomsayers are usually nothing motre than fail players that wish to see the game fail because they realized they would never acomplish what they set out to do. If they don't like the game better then that they just move on. If they're issuing a sincere warning then let them back it up with facts and not just speculation. People playing PW know full well p2ps exist and they're not playing them for a reason. That's unlikely to change because of new releases... And former p2ps turning f2p are unlikely to provide any new content being already tens of millions in the red. There's a reason they failed...

I'm calling you liars to your face. Give me a simple objective reason to believe this game is failing. A financial statement, PWI being sued by creditors, a notice we'll soon have server mergers, ANYTHING. This may be a small game but with all it's failings is so far as i know a healthy one. Want to complain about the fishies being unbalanced or CS pets, count me in. Hate the rubberbanding? The insane leveling rate? Would like to see TB haistyles on your char? There are plenty of legitimate reasons to complain about this game but that is close to shutting down is not one. The very reason i have confidence i will have enough time to acomplish what i want with my char is precisely that the game is small. Now, stand up or ****.

the game content is VERY weak so they have to keep on adding in new things to keep ppl's interest, such as Nirvana, a new end game goal which makes the TT99 which WAS end game gear, obsolete in some ways, cash shoppers PUNISH non cash shoppers weapon +4 vs weapon +10...GG
this game is goin wayward, they are trying to hard to hold ppls interest and so they end up ruining it

Are you dense? Aika is yet to be released and it is already known it will feature a cash shop. However balanced you think it will be, how long do you think is going to take before they start making endgame gear available through the item mall? Furthermore, it will have mostly instanced content and looks like it will be heavily focused on role playing, which, even if some polls claim otherwise, is actually a downer for most gamers. As for Heroes of Three Kingdoms that's a PWE game so i won't comment on it except to say i hardly think the example proves me wrong.

Your friend's list is hardly a representative sample of the server's population and the point i was making in my post was about profitability. West Arch seems as busy to me as ever and world chat just as active but i'm not using that to prove you wrong.
