I'm very new, this is my first time playing Perfect world international, or any version of perfect world. I've reached level 7 recently and learned tame. A question hit me. What kind of pets do I "need" to have to be able to level properly throughout? Do i have to keep catching pets? What kind of pets should I catch? I'm a "nuker" arcane wear and only magic/str. Thank you

Well, you can only tame the pets which are your lvl or lower. There should be some symbol beneath the name of tameable pets, if it's easy to tame it's green, if it's harder to tame it's orange and if you can't tame it yet it's red. If you can't tame it at all, there is no sign.
Well, in your starter quests your can either choose beetween a Scorpion or a Wolfling. When you reach the lvl, I would buy a Magmite or a Glacial Walker - very good tanking pets in my opinion.

That depends on the Server you are on. Normally there are Catshops in Lost City, selling various Pets.
You could ask a Veno in higher lvls to tame one for you too.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

despite what people may tell you, there really aren't any "must have" pets. depending on your play style and preferences, you can make most any pet work for you; the ones people will list as "musts" are easier to make work, and work better, for more people, that's all.
around the single-digit levels, either the sharptooth wolfling or the varicose scorpion will work fine. both of them will last as long as you want to keep them, really, although the jobs they're best suited for will narrow in scope as you level up. near the start you can use them for most everything.
keeping a pet for several levels and training it up tends to improve its stats most. for many pets this is worthwhile, hence why you'll see people discussing the stats of level-100 glacial walkers, which start out at level 19. still, do experiment and see what you prefer, find out for yourself what you can get to work for you.
the glacial walker is a good "tanker" pet, once you can get it; the magmites you can get at level 17 and 18 are good too, but most agree the walker is slightly better.
you'll want an air pet eventually, and lots of people get the level 8 petite sawfly and level it up. it's good for dealing damage quickly, but (like most air pets) can't take much of a beating. there's also the lvl 22 cloud skatefish, but that can be tricky to get at before you get a flying gear yourself at level 30.
almost everyone agrees that keeping a water pet long-term isn't worth the trouble. i too agree, but don't necessarily take my word as gospel.
i personally prefer to tame my own pets whenever possible, though i'd consider buying if for some reason i just couldn't get a pet i really wanted by myself.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -

the pets i mentioned are all ones you can find, especially if you go looking for them. the glacial walker and cloud skatefish are found in the tideborn areas, where venomancers don't normally get a lot of quests, but there's nothing stopping you from going down there and looking. i did.

Do i need to add fox form, fox wallop, swimming mastery? My guide doesn't mention these so I assume no? I'm a arcane venomancer0 -
I think swimming mastery is still glitched where it does not benefit. Fox form is a must even if you are arcane because the extra pdef can help save you in situations that you need it (ex. physical AoEs) I do not know much about fox wallop[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

fox form can't be done without; that's your "fox and run away" skill when you'd otherwise die.
fox wallop hasn't been very useful to me, but i think you need one level in it to unlock further skills that have more use. i've found stunning blow to be handy, and befuddling mist is at least in theory useful for reducing damage taken --- so long as you're not the one tanking, at least. and of course there's amplify damage and purge; you will be expected to have those and know how to use them.
(purge is tricky to learn how to use, i think. you need to get pretty decent knowledge of what the bosses do and what it looks like when they do it; i'm nowhere near there myself yet. still, it's easy to see what the skill is useful for.)[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -
Fox form is a must for any kind of veno cause you will need amlify damage, Purge for when running in squad for boss and they can only be used in fox form Myriad rainbow which is a lvl 79 skill is also handy it has a human form and a fox form the fox form is an aoe version of it so if u got a group u can effect them all with an ailment of some kind0

Yes, that build is fine. When you start to encounter AOE bosses, you might want to add some vit for better survivability, but for normal mobs you'll kill fastest with that build.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

You'll start to find mobs that are "magic resistant" monsters. Basically they take longer to kill in mage form with your magic attacks. You can use your fox form skills (fox wallop, befudding mist, leech, and stunning blow) with great success on these types of mobs. Your pet can still be the tank and you can heal while in fox or mage form. Amplify damage is a nice fox skill as it increases the amount of damage you/your squad does to a mob/boss. Personally I tend to only amp on bosses or increased life mobs. Purge is very nice but not really necessary at the lower levels. If you want to put this skill off for a while just get level one and work on your other skills.
Also with your pets be sure to keep them within one level or your current level as it will greatly reduce your chances of pulling the mob off the pet and have it directly attacking you.
Balancing out which skills to level up will be more difficult at the beginning as you're constantly fighting for enough coin/spirit to get. As you're going for a mage build I would suggest getting a few of the fox form skills for the magic resistance mobs but keep them at a lower level until you have more "excess" spirit/coins. Skills I would recommend leveling as soon as you can in fox form is your fox form. It only has 3 levels (4th level is sage/demon version) and increases your physical defense greatly. It can save your life if you get a physical mob on you. Keep your pet heal leveled up as high as whenever you can.
Mage skills for starters would be venomous scarab (this is your fastest hitting skill with the shortest cool down), Ironwood Scarab (decreases mob's phy defense), Lucky Scarab (chance to stun mob), Blazing Scarab (fire damage over time). The others are very good as well but can be added at a later date when you have more coin/spirit. Noxious Gas is an area affect spell so you need to be careful to use it when other mobs will not get pulled in unless your pet can tank multiple mobs at one time. Be sure to pick up bramble guard as it can be used on you and your squad to reflect damage. It's preferred on Barbs, Blademasters, venos, and assassins. All other classes I'd suggest you ask before brambling as it does draw mobs to a person if they get close enough.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

At level 15, uh my dark wanderer is 15 also, but the enemies I hit (with pet first , then i cast), sometimes they loose focus and come after me. Lucky enough dark wanderer has roar to attract the attack, so I'm good right now but what about later on? Pets without roar? Am I doing something wrong?

The problem with the dark wanderer is that its slot 1 skill is a buff (tough). Fortunately its other 2 skills (roar and pierce) do give it aggro, but you either have to right click one of them to set it as default skill (yellow outline) or manually fire one or both on each mob.
Pets with bash and the elemental attacks (fireball, thunderbolt, icicle, toxic mist and sandblow) do a significantly better job of keeping aggro.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Oh i see. But is it safe to say that using roar on my glacial walker is best to keep aggro 100% away from me?
Do I need any vitality? Sometimes when I fight a mob, another mob sneaks up and I try to switch pet to attack it....but I sometimes die :P. What am I doing wrong? I can't take on mobs yet or am I just not doing it "right"?
Also, everytime I attack 1 monster, I use alt + 3 (for roar), and it'll auto icicle. Then I attack with my hotkey with ironwood scarab and venom scarab.0 -

No. Nonononononononono, no.
Roar is a special use skill. It steals aggro immediately (well, almost - if the mob is in mid attack it will finish its attack) - but it doesn't steal MUCH aggro and you (or someone else) can easily steal from it in not all that many levels time.

Vitality is... well, I like to have some. You can get extra hitpoints and defence from various places, and having a bit (wherever you get it from) is nice.
It's not required though.
As long as one hit from a monster doesn't kill you, you have enough. More is a luxury - you have to decide whether you'd like more survival or more killing power.
One thing veno's are VERY good at is regaining health. Take a look at metabolic boost, soul transfusion and leech-life. As well as the option of using potions that everyone has. Try to make sure your pet hits the new monster before you heal. Failing that, try to make sure that your pet hits the monster before the monster hits you.
Failing that, try to have higher defence and more hitpoints. Going fox just before you get thumped helps quite a lot.
Really, this is just practice. Monsters spawn in predictable ways at predictable times. you should be able to avoid it most of the time.Also, everytime I attack 1 monster, I use alt + 3 (for roar), and it'll auto icicle. Then I attack with my hotkey with ironwood scarab and venom scarab.
That is an example of a good use of roar. Make sure that the roar lands before your ironwood and you should be good to go.

Quick brief on: Roar, Bash, Flesh Ream and other Aggro skills
Roar: Resets aggro back to pet but DOES NOT build aggro...resetting aggro reduces it to the lowest amt possible thus allows others to steal aggro
Bash: builds aggro (some call it hate) has a 9 sec cool down (set to auto) and will build aggro thus making it harder to pull the mob off the pet
Flesh Ream: builds aggro but has a 15 sec cool down. Therefore compared to Bash will generate less aggro build up over time. Flesh ream does do some damage over time as well (I prefer as a secondary skill to bash)
Icicle/Fireball/other elemental attacks: some provide more distance between pet and mob as they are range attacks....I don't have my game open so cannot check what the cool down is of those. (usually have these as secondary skills on a tank pet - well a tank pet that is not a herc)
Note: on a personal note I played using roar for a long time. After getting higher and doing more in squads (like Twilight Temple ~ lvl 60 and higher) aggro was being lost consistantly. I switched my pet to using Bash and haven't had a problem...unless it's +10 nirvana weapons on a 100+ barb which at that point I'm like whatever you tank....[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

All pet melee skills are ranged attacks. It's necessary to allow the pet's AI to use the skill on a moving target. Otherwise the pet would chase a target, get in melee range, start to use the skill, the skill finishes but aborts because the target is no longer in range, and the pet starts chasing the target again.0 -

No - roar doesn't stack, each use resets hate to zero. It will remove all the hate both you and your pet (and everyone else in the party) has generated from thumping it in between, which can be a net positive or a very very bad thing.
Dragon-quest:
It's long and slow, but a decent amount of XP at low levels. I wouldn't concentrate on it, but doing a step if you happen to be in the area is a nice small boost.
But it does cost a tonne of coins. The DQ items sell to NPCs for a fair amount - and some (Dull claws being a very good example) sell to other players at inflated prices, because you need them for the additional bank-slots and for your flyer.
On the flip side - there are a few very very very good items which are ONLY attainable through dragon-quest, and if you want one of those, well, you've got to do the quest. (Or buy the badges from other players who have.)
However - most of that only really applies to the high level dragon quests - DQ71 and above.0 -
Great. I'm nearing level 30, for my aerogear . Haha.
Questing is a pain.. travel here.. there...takes forever. Should I just focus on one quest or check the positions and do the ones in one spot, and etc. I guess it's kinda faster but since i'm new it takes a while to check.0 -

Yeah, I've done a lot of these. Still, at some point in the 70s I noticed that DQ gives less experience than the WQ, while being a lot more work (in particular, the items you need collect are definitely not random. Strong Venom usually "rolled" several times for a DQ 71, so I spent a lot of time grinding lowish level birds) so I finished collecting another 2 sets of Strong Venoms (still have huge piles of the other DQ 71) and stopped the quest after handing it in. Might try DQ 81 if I make it that far (I doubt it) to see how much exp I get, but with the WQ getting upped to 200K I doubt it will beat it. Still have an even lower DQ stuck on Violet glass --- don't really want to cancel it in the middle, but never felt like hunting for violet glass AGAIN either...
That's another bug with the DQs --- a lot of DQ items do not drop from monsters in your level range, so once the stockpiles are used up you're already hit by the drop penalty...Slow progress, game is getting way too grindy :-( Quests I still hope to be able to do some day: FB39, General Feng0 -
until you get your aerogear, it's very worth planning out your quests and doing all you can in one area before going on to a different spot. actively look around for quests to take, even if you're not planning to do them immediately, so you don't have to accidentally go back to the same spot too many times.
after you get your aerogear... eh, actually, it's pretty similar, because your questing past level 30 tends to spread out over more of the map to make up the difference. you'll come to hate the world quest-like FedEx-style ones that have you flying to seemingly everywhere.
i've got in the habit of talking to town guards with the one-man-army quest shields over them, just to keep track of what mobs are in the OMA quests at the moment. might as well do a few of those while i'm grinding other quests in the area anyway. but not too many, because i don't want to have to run back and forth to the town guard every time an OMA goes green on me while i still have other mobs to quest on, not even if i might get another OMA for them. that'd be too much running and flying.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -
Yah... But i guess questing is better than grinding. It's more enjoyable.. but i get bored after a few hours of questing...
