BearClaw dropped in on my son and i, something like Feb of last year, when the graphics were all screwed up, to tour the areas with me. for some reason, she dragged my lv20+ son along with us, and of course he got killed by a mob while we were in Black Mountain to look at the messed up hill and ground textures. what made me so mad at her was that here she was, a GM, lv105, but hadnt bothered to level her skills. i kid you not....she really didnt even have even the most basic skills, not even a lv 1 rez. so my son, who she didnt have any reason to drag along with us, got killed because of her, and when i asked her to res him, she goes 'i cant'. i was flabberghasted! so my kid had to go to town...thank God he was still so low level, and didnt lose that much exp from her blunder.

but i was all over BearClaw for it, so she teles us to Archo (why, i have no idea, since she is a cleric, why not Plume?? so there we are in Archo, and she gets her first quests as a cleric....can you believe it?! her first!! she had thought that, as a GM, she could just waltz up to any cleric and get any skill she wanted! thats really what she said! so i wound up in the incredible position of actually flying healing a GM while she tried to do the wolves near Bamboo, with lv1 hp/sp. she got sick of it, and said she was going to work on it later, and left, after dropping me off in Plume.
    2d11tza.jpg

anyone know what her skills are now, or did she ever bother any further?

Are GMs allowed to do that? Whisk people randomly off to help on quests? That doesn't sound very productive. Monitoring instances sounds better than that.

in my case, she was responding to a ticket about problem graphics, not on any quest. but later i was actually helping *her* try to level up fast enough to at least get rez.....i think she though she could leapfrog over levels and into skills. didnt work, she got killed anyway!

Frank was the only one i've ever seen actually monitoring an instance- it was the first time Pirate Oracles came out, and people were being unbelievely rude there...acting like it would be the end of the world if they didnt get to be first in line and then stay there. Frank saw it, but didnt didnt stop it....just watched the mayhem, ganking and the rest....

Unless someone is being solely harassed by another player or player group there is nothing that can be done, that is simple game mechanics. When oracles come out, everyone wanting to use them is going to fight over it, that is the way it is.

To be upset by nothing being done in that example carries no weight I'm afraid as there is nothing a gm can do in a situation like that to simply make everyone happy w/o disrupting the general game play.

I think you harbor some fairly malicious intent towards gm's because of one prior experience which is understandable, but carrying it on w/o first thinking of the how and why is a bit out of place.

ps. Thanks Frankie, was able to get unstuck from the FF instance b:thanks
I can see what you see not,
    Vision milky, then eyes rot.
When you turn, they will be gone,
    Whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be,
Shadows move where light should be.
Out of darkness, out of mind,
Cast down into the Halls of the Blind.

Now let's look at it from a GM's perspective b:laugh

(from a well-known GM's blog (not from PWI):
A few days ago, I got another of these calls. We call them suicide calls because these people are just asking to die.

GM Call Description: My account got ****. All items missing. Help.

    Sigh.

Let me check my files. Add up all the known third party users plus the idiots that call us about "getting ****"...

    Hey, look at that.

    1401.

I made a note to mention that to my supervisor.

Then, I logged in. Can't keep a customer waiting.

    [GM]Dave>> Hail, Adventurer.
    [GM]Dave>> I understand you "got ****".
    Player>> Yeah...
Player>> But why are you using quotation marks?
    [GM]Dave>> I don't know what you "mean".
Player>> You just did it again.
    [GM]Dave>> No, I didn't.
    [GM]Dave>> Let's move on.
[GM]Dave>> How exactly did you "get ****"?
    Player>> I downloaded this program...
Player>> And then all of my stuff disappeared.
    [GM]Dave>> ...
    [GM]Dave>> Okay.
[GM]Dave>> Who gave you this program?
    Player>> I don't know.
[GM]Dave>> Let's go through that again.
    [GM]Dave>> What did you do?
    Player>> I downloaded a program.
[GM]Dave>> And who gave it to you?
    Player>> I have no idea.
[GM]Dave>> Let's do it one more time.
    Player>> Are you kidding?
Player>> Why would we do that?
[GM]Dave>> Well... If we keep going over it...
    [GM]Dave>> I'm hoping you'll figure out why it's ret*rded.
[GM]Dave>> I doubt it, but it could happen.
    Player>> I'm insulted.
[GM]Dave>> On a daily basis, no doubt.
Player>> You have to find out who did this.
    [GM]Dave>> No...
[GM]Dave>> I know who did this.
    Player>> You do? That's great!
    Player>> Who did it?
    [GM]Dave>> You did.
    Player>> WHAT?!
[GM]Dave>> I can't believe someone could be that stupid.
[GM]Dave>> You're obviously behind the whole thing.
    Player>> That's ridiculous!
    [GM]Dave>> I know.
[GM]Dave>> I totally believe you could be that stupid.
[GM]Dave>> And yet... I do nothing.
Player>> There must be something you can do.
    [GM]Dave>> Well...
    [GM]Dave>> There is one thing...
    Player>> Thank god.
    Player>> Do it.
    [GM]Dave>> I don't think you'll like it.
    Player>> I don't care.
    Player>> Do it!
    [GM]Dave>> You're the boss.

    *warp*

    Player>> What's going on?!

Jormungand hits Player for 12,999 points of damage.
    Player was defeated by Jormungand.

[GM]Dave>> I told you you wouldn't like it.

See, I understand people downloading third party software. I don't agree with it, but at least I can understand why they do it.

But dammit, if you choose to use third party software, then you choose to risk your account.

Don't come crying to us because you were stupid.

We don't have that kind of time.

Honestly, we burned 1400 accounts not just to save game balance.

We did it to save our time.

    Also, our sanity.

1401 less idiots makes the world a better place.

Now, I consider myself something of a collector of good puns (I'm masochistic that way, I guess). You made me read through the whole thread a second time looking for this elusive beast. If there was a pun, that would be more interesting than the fact that GMs are proving to actually do their jobs occasionally. But, alas Virginia, there is no Sneaky Clause.

    Pointless Trolling.

Troll on some other forum plz, we have enough of your kind and to be blunt you're newer so just go and let the others do it.

As for what FoxRunning said it will forever freak me out that we have people overseeing the game as moderators that don't even know how to flippin' play the game. Why? Why do we have those? That's like the **** animal rights activist who wouldn't know a starving horse if it was scaled as a 1 by a vet and dead in their lawn!

You'd be better off taking a screen shot to prove that helpful players exist, now there's a dying breed worth documenting. From now on if a GM ever shows up in noobie gear with a club I'll walk the other way because I likely know better than them and would go **** trying to make sure they get it. Now I know that they actually have to play the game, too. What a drag.

They don't have to know how to play the game to do their job; they just need to know how to see ToS violations. Would it hurt them to level up and learn how to play their class? Probably not, but when your level 105, can make yourself invincible, and can have any item you want, is there any reason to play the game?
Also, turn the down the flame lest wandering GM/Mods see it.b:bye

What? That's ridiculous - of course you should know how to play the game before becoming a GM. How could you possibly be qualified to spot a TOS violation if you don't know how to play? I'm not suggesting they become experts at the game, or that PWE should only allow the most elite players to become GM's, but some decent familiarity with the game should be essential.

Recommendations from other games in which they GMed for. Because most MMO ToS and programming are cut with the same cookie cutter from the same dough, you can get the experience you need from GMing for another game which you did know your class. If they can spot the ToS violations with near perfect accuracy, then all they need to know is how to move around, if they wish to learn their class while GMing then thats fine, but as far as PWE is concerned, they only need to monitor during the work hours.

Just gonna throw this out there for the QQ'r. I had a long convo with a GM a few days back, feel bad I don't remember her name but they are only allowed one skill. She had level one scarab that hit for 999,999, or some insane number like that. They aren't mean to run around rezzing players. They can go in and one hit a worldboss that is causing an issue, or any other mob for that matter.

So before you scream/yell/have a temper trantrum better suited for your child, think about their job.

*P.S. It took about 15 level 80+ clerics almost 10 minutes of pure spam heals to heal the GM's HP. It was sick.*

    I lol'd.

Clearly you don't know the difference between trolling and pointing out the obvious.

If FoxRunning thinks that GMs are no big deal, why did she make a post complaining about the time she meant one and moaning like it was a big deal?

To be blunt, you're stupid. You can't tell how new or old somebody is to forums or to the game based on post count and suchlike, so don't be telling me if I'm new or not. (Also, based on post counts... I'd say I've been around the forums a bit more than you.)

Go pretend to be clever and better than me on some other forum plz, we have enough of your kind and to be blunt you're making assumptions about people you can't even back up, so just go and let people who actually know what they're talking about speak.

    b:bye

I've seen BearClaw once, sitting around in Lost City not doing very much. Of course me and a few other people were around, joking about dueling them with their +999999 resistance cape and that uber weapon of theirs and what have you, but BearClaw didn't say much herself and then teleported away to some other dimension before any of us could duel her.

Although as a result of this, we all just duelled each other instead. Was fun.

I will point out though, in relation to FoxRunning's QQ story... have you ever seen a GMs weapon? It's like, +999,999 magic/physical attack. They don't actually need to do quests, nor need help with them. Gratz, you feel for the biggest prank of all time - thinking a GM needed your help to do a quest when they have a weapon that allows them to just about one-shot anything in this game.

Why do people make interesting threads when I'm on vacation b:cry

As far as GMs and knowing the game goes, yes, it's nice and all when they do know the game like a regular player does. But their job isn't to know how to run a Frost or ress players that die. Their job is to monitor for Terms of Service violations, and play customer support. As long as they know the ToS, they make a fine GM. Not to mention the fact that GMs aren't supposed to be 'playing' the GM character, so why would it have skills that you need levels, SP, and money to get?

Not to mention the fact that they're GMs for PWE, not PWI. So say they spend all this time getting to know the interface, classes, etc of PWI...then they're switched over to JD. All that time wasted, and a whole host of people on the JD forums complaining that they don't know enough about the game.
