Auction house refund--you have to actually read the letter?

I bid on 4 items at one milion coins each. I was outbid. I opened my mail and noticed 4 letters about an auction error. Having been outid before, I did not waste time reading them and so deleted them, knowing that if you are outbid you get yiour coin refunded.

I MISSED THE SECRET STEP NOT MENTIONED IN THE AUCTION HOUSE INSTRUCTIONS THAT I ACTUALLY HAVE TO READ THE STUPID LETTERS TO GET MY COINS REFUNDED.

I did submit a ticket, but know better than to hold my breath waitng for my coins to be refunded.

IT WOULD BE NICE IF THE INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDED THIS TIDBIT OF INFORMATION.

Not only do you have to read the letter, you have to hit the "item" button to get the coin into your bank again.

Seriously, this isn't a technical issue, this is your own fault. If you get your coin refunded for your mistake, you're lucky, but hopefully it teaches you to be a little bit more careful next time.

Then you have just been struck by lightning twice 8-)

I did this too when I were new to the game.
Coming from a game where the coin went back in your inventory when the AH mail were opened.
I were new and did not read the worning thinking it to a be standard asking if I were sure I wanted to delete my mail.
I got most if not all the coins refunded but it took a bit of writing back and forth sine it were first rejected.

BTW I know of others who has done this too but only when new to the game.

you will not get your coin refunded. Had a friend who accidentally sold 40HP charms to a vendor...he sent in a ticket...they pretty much told him...sorry for your loss......without the sorry.

Have you ever mailed yourself coin from an alt? Ever had someone mail you coin, or even an item? It doesn't just automatically get distributed to you. If you were stupid and didn't read the mail, this is nobody's fault but yours. Clearly there's a nice little bubble there in your mailbox indicating there's an attachment (coin or an item) that you need to take. The game can't be faulted for lack of user intelligence.

Wait... you said "Having been outid before..." So you have previous experience with losing an auction bid and have had your coin returned by mail? Yet suddenly you think that the mechanics have changed and you can just delete the mail and the attachment will automatically go to your inventory? Even when you click "Yes' to the warning that "This mail has an attachment are you sure you want to delete?"?!

I understand someone's first-time using the auction and not understanding exactly how it works, but that is why you should pay attention the first time around. Track the coin in your inventory and if it's not there, then ask "Where is it"? Look at the first auction-error email you ever get very carefully... I saw the coins there but it took me 30-40 sec to figure out I had to hit the "Item" button to actually retrieve the coin from the mail into my inventory.

Yet this isn't a first-time error... "Having been outbid before..."... This was your error due to you forgetting that to get your refunded coin you have to open the mail and hit the "Item" button. Either you forgot, or you made up a rule you thought was reasonable to you, but in no way is indicated by anything in the game as "this is how it actually works." That's almost as bad as me putting in a bid for "Buy it now" and then complaining that I immediately got charged for the whole amount--hey the way I thought it should work was that if there are no other bidders, then I should get it for the bid price and not the buy it now price and if anyone does bid, they automatically lose out because my bid should automatically bump up again and again until it hits the buy it now price so I win, but I might not have to pay full price... amirite? Refund please... ticket submitted...

    Epic fail b:chuckle

This is the part that confuses me. You've been outbid before - so are you saying you deleted those refunds as well? The process hasn't changed, so either you knew the proper steps and just forgot, or you've been deleting all of your auction refunds during your time playing.

I did this once. I was refunded 700k on a something. It was about 20 seconds before server shutdown, so I rushed opening the e-mail, closed it, and deleted it. When the prompt saying it had an attachment on their came up, I clicked the wrong button and deleted the coins anyways.

Clearly I am unable to work under pressure.

You guys had faith in humanity? Don't recall having that myself O_o.

    Anyways, to stay on topic...

I remember a guy in my old faction on HT who deleted a 4mil+ item he had mailed to himself, by mistake... let's just say he didn't bother sending a ticket for it.

GMs and devs won't refund, forget it.

Which reminds me. Does anyone actually read, try stuff and check options in their UI? I have a hard time finding someone who knows how to copy a name from the right-click menu... You just can't seem to miss a button called Item IMO. Speaks for itself: it's to get the item.

Lunch time over, gonna drop by an 2 hours or so >_>.

I hope you sent in a ticket.

Explain what you did, and *when*, and don't take the oppurtunity to whine about how unfair it is.

Just ask politely to have your coin refunded, and they *might* do it.

    Good Luck.

On the off-chance you are addressing me...

I did submit a ticket, actually. I stated that I had rushed, screwed up, and made an honest mistake a few seconds before server shutdown. They said that they cannot retrieve coins lost through the mail system. The phrasing used indicated that it was more of an inability to do so, than a "No, we will not do it."

In any case, I have no one to blame but myself.

One reason for this thread is to reduce the chance that someone else will lose thier refund money while learning how this poorly documented system works.

This thread is also because my other ticket for my other issue is 21 days old with no resolution yet. All I have gotten so far is the response that the missing quest item that can not be traded or dropped can not be remedied by me, and that they have to do something before I can complete the quest. Yeah, after 21 days, and I already knew that. I would like to wait less than 21 days to get this issue resolved.

Again, no where is it written that we have to read the letter to get our coin back. We ARE told that we will get a refund if we are outbid. A few helpfull people have pointed out that AFTER you open the letter there are a few clues. The subject line of the letter while in your ingame mailbox could have a helpfull clue such as saying "Auction House Refund", not something about an auction error. It is not even an error, who had the brain **** to have it say that? Even the letter itself does say to click on anything to get your coin back. The auction refund system makes sense only after you do it, not before.

Go ahead, cut and paste and show me where the instructions say you have to read the letter to get your refund. I certainly can not find it. And by the way, I do seem to have waited longer to start using the auction house than a few others people. I waited in part because of the poor documentation.
