garnet increases your physical defense, not your hp.
you'll endure slightly more phys attacks

I know that. but how much physical defense is it exactly?

is it worthwhile. If I dont' have any HP to backup the phys def. is it still worth it?

i see quite alot of 80+ clerics who use flawless/immax garnets in their gear, so must be worth it at that lvl

imo I prefer garnet. for clerics as long as you have enough hp to last for 3 sec for ih to "tick", you have enough hp to back it up. The advantages to sharding garnet also is that hp you can get easier then pdef. and having higher def increases your survivability more then hp imo since if you only heal (using # for example only) say 100 in a heal, and you take 120 dmg each time enemy hits you, having higher hp pool isn't going to save you. only postpone your death. while having higher defences so he only hits you at 90, means you can actually take the hits, until someone else can take care of whatever is hitting you.

Just something to clarify I'm not full garnet (though I want to be) my pants and sleaves are sharded with citrines. And if you are pure mag, I'd personally recommend you start putting in vit (simply as it is not a viable build for the money until much much later). or put in some citrines to up your hp.

Also sharding with garnet and having a lower hp pool can make some ignorant people not take you on runs because, "you don't have 5k unbuffed". but ignorant people will be ignorant.

First off: FAC/FSC do not exist. There are only clerics. You have attack skills, you have support skills; they are all cleric skills, so they are part of being a cleric. The sooner you ditch the FAC/FSC mindset, the better.

As for HP, most end-game clerics are vit build hybrids; so at 90+ you want to be looking at having about 5k HP unbuffed with a good amount of physical defense. If you can reach that 5k, shard everything else with garnet.

I would go with a combo of garnets and citrines.Garnets in top and leggings and citrines in boots, guanlets and cape.

There is also the option of refining armour for HP, which is what I'm doing with my TT90 set. That will be costly.. but I dont like wasting sockets with Citrines, not on the major pieces. If i put citrines in anything, they go in the hat and the cape.

I think when people say FAC or FSC they are talking about their method of group pvp or 1v1 pvp....grant it, it is hard to get 1v1 these days xD

I was doing some research with the pwi calculator program, I can get to 3000 pdef unbuffed with immac garnets (assuming that all gear is 3 socket, that sockets are available)...and 90 gold protection necklace and belt at +5 each....the thing is I don't know how much it will reduce physical damage after being buffed....also the hp at everything +5 was around 4.5k hp unbuffed at full mag (not getting into the discussion if full mag is fail or good)....this is with all 99 gold gear and the 99 gold magic sword...

I don't have much to say on whether FSC are 'the best,' but I will disagree on the second part of your statement. You try surviving Drummer and Soul Banisher in TT1-2 and TT1-3 with low hp. Not as easy as it looks and you have to pray that the boss doesn't one shot you. That's why clerics need at least decent armour and a fair amount of hp. I just cap my vit at 40 and shard with whatever I can get my hands on... mostly garnets and citrines. Although I will use a few turquoise shards. I like having as much mana as I can get my hands on without penalizing my survivability too much. XD

old lines say that the cleric who heals better is the one who heals longer
    its just my gamestyle but:
1-i dont care about mp i use pots
2-i dont care about mag damage i'm AA
3-if i'm going to suffer phy damage i usually use plume shield or such

so not caring about phy def i shard full hp and goes vit build.

I started a poll on this a while ago. Still haven't decided for myself yet, but I will add shards as the need for either pdef or hp grows with experiencing damage.

Here's the poll I posted: link

I sharded citrines until my 90 set. Then I sharded garnets with citrines in my cape and hat. If you look at the bonuses in TT90, you'll see that you already get quite a bit of HP and vit from them. I thought it somewhat redundant. Now I have 4.5k pdef with my buffs and more with a BM buff.

However, it really does depend on what you enjoy. Take everyone's opinion as what it is: an opinion :D

full garnet and refine for hp

clerics can get extremely expensive end-game because if you want to keep attack and not too much vit, you will need to have some relatively high refine

overall though, more pdef will help you
