    They tried. Think thanksgiving was started cause of that.

    Think the people in Jamestown or someplace kept dieing. They were sick and hungry. Then the Indians helped them. And then they had a meal together to give thanks. Then Indians got slaughtered by the thousands around the country.

    I would have to disagree about the term 'officially discovered' that you use. Why is something only 'officially discovered' when Caucasians discover it, but not when anyone else does?

    While I am Caucasian I do take exception to the 'official' idea that a land hasn't been discovered (and populated) until white people do it. The Native American people had a rich and deep culture that in some ways was superior to the European cultures of the time America was 'officially' discovered.

    They had been here in America for as long (or longer) than some of the peoples that inhabited the British Isles (Celts, Scotts, etc). I would say that any history book that claims that ANY Europeans were the first to discover the Americas, is factually inaccurate and if it is innaccurate with something so basic as when America was discovered, then what else has it 'just so happened' to leave out or alter?
