Hey guys, just needing some help from more advanced wizards.
I've found in my adventures of a 4x barb that low lvl wizards are shunned for being 'soft' And as i progressed i found that they became more solo. This made me very curious to the ways of the wizard.
Im currently a lvl 14 pure build. Im already hitting more damage than my tank.
And i was curious.. Do we work towards a certain spell set?
Or as they become available.
And are the mobs going to become easier to solo than they are now?
Lol The 'soft' aspect is quite taxing, yet i enjoy every second of it.\
I'm thinking i should have rolled a wiz the first time around.
Thank you for any advice, insight you may give!b:laugh

All the skills will be useful at some point or another (except crown of flames/pitfail... and if you are sage emberstorm) but you will want them all. In the beginning you will want to max your three starter ones (pyro/gush/stone rain) because they will be your main damage skills for a while. After those, you will focus on your main DD skill till 89, sandstorm. At that point you really shouldn't have too much trouble figuring out what skills you want to max next :P
Mobs become increasingly easy as time goes on, as you level up, more kiting skills become available, and usually around 6x or so you stop getting hit almost entirely (every once in a while you might take a hit :P)Youtube Channel: youtube.com/user/D2VeT/videos?flow=grid&view=0

K, I am only level 59 on my Wiz, so dont take nothing as gospel, but for me personally, i didn't have any problems (PvE) with the wiz's squishiness... it's simple...just dont get hit! b:chuckle
KITE THE MOBS!... hit with favourite starter of choice... mine is Divine Pyrogram (for the extra range), unless its a fire or water mob, in which case i use sandstorm. Follow by gush to slow the mob, then run away.
If its a fast mob, only gush/run from then on, but for most mobs i alternate spells. Just experiment, you will quickly figure out what is good for you. I like it when i can kill the mob in 3-4 hits, thats a good spell combo.
For pure magic build pvp, you should be able to kill barbs and (possibly veno's) and not much else to begin with, (unless the person you are pvping has no idea how to play their class). Archers will pwn you (fking plume shell) as will clerics (again... fking shells b:angry) I am just gonna take this opportunity to say to the Dev's... those shells are horribly overpowered at lower levels, some of us actually want to pvp our pure magic wizards BEFORE 90 and have a chance. (Runs for cover as all the more experienced wizards jump down his throat with all the reasons i am wrong b:chuckle)
(A little sidenote on kiting... I was dueling an ARTofWAR Barb 5 levels higher than me (when i was around 48) and he kept saying "STOP RUNNING YOU P*SSY!!" as if i was just gonna sit still and LET him stun me, DO NOT under any circumstances listen to a re.tard like this... kiting is your ONLY way to survive in PVP, ffs they gave us distance shrink for a reason... use it!!)
PS Needless to say I pwned his stupid **** 3 times in a row and sent him on his waying crying about "sending his faction leader to sort me out" b:laugh
EDIT: BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR SKILL CHOICES EVEN AT LOW LEVELS (You will thank me later)
Read the wizard guides stickied at the top of this section, I particularly like pandora's, it gave me a chuckle :-))

and of course level up Stone Barrier
I agree, pyro/gush/stone rain should be maxed asap due to short channelling time, they do good DPS.
Divine Pyro, Glacial Snare, Sandstorm are good openers to do alot of damage and aggro the mob, but dont level them at the cost of leveling ur basic skills.
If you're not oracling you will struggle for spirit to level everything you want when you want, so its important to stick to your guns and level whats essential early on. (You will get alot of spirit later at 80+)
Morning Dew is handy to have atleast 1 lvl of so you can heal yourself after killing a fight and save potions.
Your water/fire shields become more useful later on when you fight more magic mobs.0 -

I have maxed my water shield first and foremost for the extra MP regen, meaning i can grind for longer/use less pots.
I dont get hit by mobs enough to need Stone Barrier in PvE, and i haven't wasted time trying to PvP much yet. I will max it now that i am 59 and have all my sweet new PvP Skillz (plus i am restatting to LA >:-)0 -
In terms of skills, in my lower lvls i was always a super poor wizzie (i dont cash shop) so to make my pve life easier and cheaper i learned towards a certain elemental path until i was able to better afford skills. After maxing the basics, pyro/gush/stone rain as well as my shields i leaned towards my earth and water skills, maxing out Earth mastery and sandstorm first, then water mastery and GC as i could as well as BiDS. I essentially said, **** it to div pyro and fire mastery. Worked fairly well as my main combo was glacial snare--->sandstorm--->gush--->stone rain---gush. Once i got into my 80's and started TW (ie. got a source of income) i started lvling my div pyro and fire mastery.
Essentially, if ur as poor as i was, try to find a good attack combo/macro that strongly relies on 1-2 elements and focus on those 2 elements, because getting your element masteries up really makes pve life easier in the early goings and you dont need to spend coin that you dont have, trying to lvl all 3 masteries and skill sets.
my 2 cents[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

I remember when i was PKing against a lvl 97 barb with some insane gear. Pan Gu axe, TT90 with some anni pack gear mixed in with 10 vit gems vs my +2-+3 LA armor. I had to kite the life out of him cause he was hitting me for like 500-1k damage. He always was saying to me, "stop running if you are going to fight, fight" and i was like, "Like im going to sit here and let you kill me"
In short,
I got killed because my friends ruined my concentration on vent so instead of pushing blink i pushed sandstorm....Sins are Scissors. Psychics are Rocks.
Archers, Venos, Barbs, Wizards, BMs, Mystics, Seekers are Paper.
...and Clerics are Mushrooms.
Paper beats Rock. Scissors beats Paper. Scissors also happens to beat Rock...until Rock gets 50k+ soulforce at which point Rock becomes an unstoppable killing machine that beats Paper... and would beat Scissors but it can't find Scissors, because Scissors are invisible.
So Scissors beat Paper and avoids Rock, and that is called BALANCE. -cheze0 -
Majority sO against Pitfall and Crown of Flame but in PvE terms they are Very usefull in chained combos and even if not they pretty much good finisher since Crown has fastest time cast. As well they are good for damage control at bosses especially on long/very long term fight.b:surrender
In PvP terms Pitfall can be really nasty if that very low chance freeze worksb:chuckle
And please don't bother flaming to this threat cause most people here are just blindly following crowd before checking themselves.0 -

I actually use pitfall as a closer when the mobs hp is like 3-5%, no need to waste a whole other 250-280 mana points for that eh? :P
But aside from that, everyone's already said mostly what skills to upgrade as you go. I found it very good to max my masteries rather than glacial snare and sandstorm first, I 2-4 shot all my mobs and a few lvls higher.
PvE wise, grinding is such a breeze it's not even funny. I didn't start using my Water shield til i got to 7x where i had to actually grind for long periods of time, but that's just me. I don't think there's anything else I can add that the others haven't posted already other than enjoy becoming a beast at 9x b:bye0 -
people in general dislike:
crown of flames (I also hate it)
fire shield (think no mobs hit fire magic before 4x)
hailstorm (most high lvl people use it to AOE low fb mobs)
dragon's breath (that's our "zen" spell. upgrading makes you spend more MP and draw more aggro. just tell your squad it's lvl10 and they'll believe)
pitfall (damage is quite low and chance to freeze is erratic. it has some uses but most hate it)
emberstorm (it eats up a chunk of your HP bar and cast range is disgusting. people love the demon version of it, which has 50% chance to stun)[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
