what i dream of is that when you go to buy a dye, you could actually CHOOSE which you want, not this bloody stupid colour lottery. but that chart doesnt give the colours the names used here...so i wouldnt know how helpful it would be to me.

Wouldn't that be something you'd warn someone about before trying to trade with them? b:surrender[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

yes but they could be adverting it as one color when in fact it is another color unknown to them this could lead to misunderstandings and sometimes harsh feelings if the buyer feels they have been mislead..simple solution put the color names on the fashion instead of color cubes would take up same amt of space and would be user friendly by all.0 -

i didnt make it, i got it from a friend that told me to put it on my sig to support this issue.FooFooKity - Heavens Tear wrote: »yes but they could be adverting it as one color when in fact it is another color unknown to them this could lead to misunderstandings and sometimes harsh feelings if the buyer feels they have been mislead..simple solution put the color names on the fashion instead of color cubes would take up same amt of space and would be user friendly by all.
Yea the main purpose is that people who use the chat for trading fashion mostly say the wrong name of the color because they don't know the real name.
And a lot of times i got a fashion with randomly dyed and when i wanted to sell it i didn't know what's the color name. So this is better than saying wts pants red/purpish color b:chuckle.
Oh and i totally support that if they put the name of the color instead of cubes would be better.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Sorry that's not helpful in the least. HTML colors are not what are being used in PWI. RGB colors are. There is a huge difference & there is really no names for RGB colors only number values. Plus the "Hot Colors" in PWI are really nothing more than a small selection from the RGB set of colors. They are not the full collection of colors. Random dyes contain the full set of RGB colors and I'm nearly positive they are in the 16 bit range only.
This is all nonsense to anyone who isn't into computer graphics or digital imagery.
You really don't need to know what it means. All anyone needs to do is learn which names for the Hot Colors they like & don't expect slang terms to count with merchants selling clothes.
When in doubt, dye your own. You'll learn really fast when it comes to losing your own money. LOL
But FYI... random dyes also will contain all the hot colors as well so don't be fooled when someone tells you that your randomly dyed pure black boots cannot possibly be pure black. That's nonsense.0 -

There is also a huge difference in how the same colour looks on different fashion sets. So which colour would you name when you have dyed your stuff light yellow and it appears to be golden? Or more tricky question: If someone advertises a black piece of clothing, that is in fact dark grey, but you only see it if you compare to true black clothings... know where my problem is?Cervantia BM 100 / Calivthel Cleric 101 / Davinella Archer 9x

nah, regardless of your point, i still think this will help me with choosing a color.Cervantia - Sanctuary wrote: »s. very simple.
1-So which colour would you name when you have dyed your stuff light yellow and it appears to be golden?
Light yellow, we are talking about the dyes color not how they appear with fashion.
2- If someone advertises a black piece of clothing, that is in fact dark grey, but you only see it if you compare to true black clothings...?
if you cant tell if its black or not its probably a problem with your computer.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Exactly. You can't expect 3D graphic shading to be like coloring with crayons in a color book. An object is overlaid with textures. This is a graphic image of textures like cordouroy or denim or leather... whatever. That graphic remains with the item permanently & can darken an item or lighten it.
For instance I saw Wedding Heels for sale which were correctly dyed with pure red (hot colors) dye yet they came out looking a sort of watermelon pinkish shade. This is due to that graphic having a lightening effect in the artwork. Leather & Duke Rose items simply cannot hold a light color because they are meant to be dark materials. The texture applied darkens them.
So think of any dye you put on something like a stain rather than a paint. It's going to let the clothing texture show through. This is not PWI's fault nor can they change it. It simply is the limitation of the current 3D graphics that we have to work with.
So like I said rather than try to describe colors to one another... get to know your items & do your research on a garment before you buy or dye. The AH (auction) is wonderful for this. Try stuff on. See how different colors act on the item. Get to know what the hot colors look like in the little blocks on an item AND what it looks like on the item.
My tip on pure black is simple but requires a decent computer system. During the daylight time in the game look at an items color blocks & they should look as though they disappeared no matter how hard you look when against the shop screen. Now try it on & point your camera to the sky... mouse over the item on your preview screen & look at the blocks. They should look like 4 tiny black boxes on a transparent black background. Dark blue & dark purple show up well when you look up in the sky toward the sun & do this.
Most of all... remember black is black no matter what anyone says. There is this myth going around that random pigments & new clothes can never come out pure black & that is FALSE. If the squares are actually black & disappear on the background... it's pure black. Test it out & you'll see what I mean.
Sorry for wall of text but this subjects hard to explain b:chuckle0 -
I got a question, the link is awesome, but what if your color blind? Certain colors will look the same, so that still doesn't help us out. You may see light blue, I see blue that's it.Why is the Rum gone? TELL ME NOW OR I WILL EAT YOUb:angry0

Sorry, but the OP's post is useless. It's incredibly misleading to people to post a list of colours which are in no way related to the dye system ingame.
A correct table of hot-colours dyes for PWI can be found below (I modified it off a table for... "a certain well known asian version"):
The RGB values, even when using the colour in the item decription, are only approximate though. If a value is reasonably close, you can probably safely say it's one of the hot-colours. If none of the colours match when you're looking at, then it's a random colour, either from the boutique or via a random dye.
EDIT: Should mention that when I made/modified the image, I accidentally saved it as a jpg instead of BMP or PNG. So there's a certain amount of lossy compression in the image, unfortunately.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

That's wrong.
The gamma value of the game settings (to bright things up or make them darker), the adjustment of your pc screen's colour scheme, the textures of the dyed fashion and the effects of ingame environment (for example day or night) together make the look of an item.
This is the first reason why there is nothing "wrong" with someone who can hardly tell dark grey from black in certain situations.
And the second is: I mentioned I can see an item is dark grey when I compare it with a black one wearing them at the same time, which means I could not tell for some items that they are not black when I wear them alone, but always when I wear them in a set of true black clothes.Cervantia BM 100 / Calivthel Cleric 101 / Davinella Archer 9x

Thanks Peritia for posting... that's exactly what I was trying to explain.
And I know you mean well Cervantia however without a better understanding of how the graphics work your best off to take the advice of those who do know what they are talking about.
HTML is a totally different set of colors ONLY for the internet browsers.
RGB is the colors used in graphic programs like Window Paint.
And I understand your frustration with textures on clothing... like the Leather set of clothes is VERY dark textured... so that it makes the dye appear to change. But I assure you the dye has not changed, you simply are seeing through the color to the background texture on the item.
Think of it like spilling a drink on a wooden table... you can see the wood grain through the drink because the drink is transparent.
Dyes are transparent like liquid water color paints. You are seeing what the artist put on the items background. You will just have to experiment with items to find out how they take a color. Each item is different because it's a work of art all on it's own. That's why they sell clothes in sets that match.0 -
I dont care that we cant choose the color in the cash shop, but wish they had an option in the ah were if you scroll over the pigment it shows the color, that would make it easie to match to what I have... similiar to how the fash does if you scroll over the name.0

then you wind up having to go by what others tell you, unfortunately. i have the same problem. i have an outfit i love, that to me looks royal blue, but my kids tell me is violet/purple. same thing with things in red shades. i've had people for years tell me i make colours too intense in things i make on PSP/Animation Shop, but didnt know i was somewhat colourblind.
one suggestion- if you know which colours you see 'properly', stick with those. or, do as i do, wear what looks good to *you*. you are playing, and most people wont care what colour you wear. whats important is how it makes you feel, and i love my 'blue' outift.Enzio - Heavens Tear wrote: »I got a question, the link is awesome, but what if your color blind?
