It is good thing you can't remember their name as that is against board rules. That is HT so I have nothing to worry about.

Looks like the OP is from LC, not HT. We do have our share of shops with creative pricings for similar items though.

Yes, and in real life there are laws against false advertising and scamming people.

Similarly, in soccer, there is no actual physical way of stopping someone picking up the ball and smashing in the face of an opposing player.

But we don't LET them. There are rules and stuff, you know?

yeah, & false advertising is VERY punishable.. there are NUMEROUS laws that fit into that genre of business crimes. Why do we have the Federal Trade Commission, SECC, and numerous other PROSECUTING agency's if Caveat Emptor is the norm?

this is not to condone it cause as i said above I detest it, and quite frankly I catch a member of my guild doing it and they will be an EX-guildee PDQ, but anyway, it would make it HARDER for them to do the same if the images were unique per item.. They did do this on the tokens, but the change was so slight it seemed to have made no difference.

No, very few players would have a true static IP, banning the IP just means that the person will change their IP and someone else might get caught up in the ban for no reason.

lol why wont pwe stop recycling its item symbols? It can easily be avoided by assigning a different symbol for a different item. I guess that makes too much sense.

Not gonna be bannable because they can just say...

'I set up a catshop that was selling wines for 150k(all legit), but they sold out, I was also selling these other items totally different except for identical image for the same price, sooooo prove me wrong'

Obviously full of it, but possible.

While you're at it, could you also ban the people that set up shop next to mine selling pStones @ 250 less than me, the person that got the mini world boss before I got there, the NPCs that bought stuff off me for a small fraction of what I could have sold them for, the bosses that let me think I was beating them then all of the sudden kill me?

Please nerf the game for idiots like me!

Seriously, gratz on being on of the few decent human beings out there. This is kinda getting stupid. I'm actually considering finding out whether it's really bannable or not then taking names and coming after a few of you guys with some intricate scam techniques.

After that I could post an "idiots who made me rich" thread.

Hell, it doesnt need to be a ban.

Simply code the game so it doesn't allow "X" within 10 feet of an NPC.

Attach that 10-ft range disable to Catshops and Mounts.

You have then pleased 80% of the players in this game.

Don't think IP ban would be a great idea.

Someone in my dorm plays PW and gets banned, I get banned.

This whole crying "GM's!", "BAN!", thing is ridiculous. First, I will acknowledge that the developers were lazy and could have made it a little easier by not using so few icons for so many items.

On the other hand, the people crying foul and demanding bans are basically the ones that admit they screwed up and weren't paying attention, and want the GM's to save their **** from their own stupidity, or want GM's to be their net nanny and make sure things they don't like get banned, and neither premise ever works. It's very simple, and no more simple than two over-used words that still needs to be iterated to people -- PAY ATTENTION.

It is not a difficult thing to highlight an item to see the name of it before dragging the damn thing over. There's no excuse or cover for laziness, which is why I'm giving it to both the developers and the people whining who don't pay attention.

    Real World != Perfect World

In the real world, it's very possible to misrepresent an object in a manner which it is impossible to differentiate the genuine product with the fake, without making an actual purchase and testing it out.

The same is not true in Perfect World. The mouse tooltip reveals to you the exact identity of the item you wish to purchase. Thus while an item may still be misrepresented, it remains possible to discern genuine products from not.

Don't get me wrong, I feel that misrepresentation of objects is a sleazy, dirty way to make money, and certainly if I found any of my guildmates doing so I'd issue a single warning (if at all) before perma-kicking them.

However, as I explained above, the tools to differentiate are available to you ingame, and if I believe people should always take responsibility for their actions as a result (like Whiteleo did).

You're not accomplishing much by chastising them. They've already been punished by being scammed. You telling them to pay attention is like telling a kid who just burned himself on a hot stove that he'll get burned if he touches the hot stove. Well duh, thank you captain obvious.

The real issue is that two wrongs occurred here. 1. Someone is running a scam shop. 2. Someone didn't pay attention when shopping.

The person responsible for (2) already got punished for their wrong. They've lost money (often a great deal of money) from what they did wrong. So all the people in these type of threads telling them to pay attention aren't really accomplishing anything except pouring salt on the wound. And AFAIK, none of the victims in these cases has ever asked for their money back; most of them acknowledge they lost it through their own carelessness. They just want to see:

The person responsible for (1) hasn't been punished. In fact they've been rewarded by making a lot of money off the scam. Hence the call for the GMs to do something to shut them down. Failure by the GMs to do something about it is tacit acknowledgment that (1) is in fact not a wrong, and thus it is ok for players to scam each other.
