Concerning Rare Pets

One of the worst things that can happen in any MMO is when griefers show up and start ruining parts of the game. In PWI, one of these instances is rare pets.
Most of these pets are on a 12 hour respawn timer, making them rather difficult to aquire, especially for low level characters. One of the main reasons for this is higher-level Venomancers constantly camping the spawns, who generally have a much faster casting, and much higher tame chance than the lower level players. These high level players usually (though not always) only tame these pets in order to sell them. However, this is not the point of this post.
I'm writing this post in response to an action that was taken at one of the Shaudu Cub pet spawns on 1/21/09 at ~5:45 PST on the Heavens Tear server. During this particular spawn period, a couple members from a particular faction (who will remain nameless in this post), neither of which was a Venomancer, decided to kill the rare pet, so that no one would have a chance to tame it. These were high level players, and ended up killing the pet in one attack.
Section 11, Subsection (n) of the Terms of Service states that [users shall not] "Take any action that disrupts the Service or that negatively affects or may prohibit other users from enjoying the Website, the Games or any other aspect of the Service."
In my opinion, actions such as this blatant killing of a rare pet by higher level players are in violation of the Terms described above. We already have to compete with higher level players taming the pets purely for monetary reasons (basically taking away the chance for lower level players to get said pets). We should not, under any circumstances, have to compete with griefers killing the pets. This does, for many people, negatively affect the game.
And, before people inevitably start complain, I'll cover one more topic: Yes, the pets do sometimes die during taming attempts, with only Venomancers present. While this can be due to a number of reasons (too many pets/players attacking, a higher level Venomancer casting an attack spell accidentally/purposefully, etc), I am not purely against the pets dying. I am, however, against non-Venomancer characters, especially high level players, killing the pet for no good reason - and no, killing it so other people won't tame it is not a good reason.
I sincerely ask the developers and GMs to review this, and to take action against players who bring down the game in such fashion.

Congrats m8
You have just posted what maybe the dumbest posted ever posted on these forums.
You have out done MT and Pandora combined.0 -
I would like to state my support for your argument and fully agree with the reasoning that this does constitute griefing. I heard today, 22-01-09, from some veno friends of mine that the tabby, treefrog and even snowhare had been deliberately killed to keep them from being tamed. While in all of this cases the act was done by venos, it seems very clear to me that the object was economic gain. I am all in favor of a veno making money by taming these pets, even when it means a certain amount of unfair competition and what I consider to be low tactics (summoning a tamed pet as a decoy for instance) but killing to keep the prices high not only affects the venos who lose their chance at taming but affects us all. These are cartel tactics and they do constitute a crime in most of the western world. Its one thing when a player gets scammed with a bad trade but organized rings do affect the experience for many and I do believe GMs should take action in these instances.0

I'm gonna go ahead and write you a prescription for a pair of testicles. If my calculations are correct, that should decrease your crying by as much as 300%.Everyone here is ridiculously oversensitive.0

well im no veno , but when you have a game that has rare items , pets or weps , etc. you are going to have mongrels who do this to people because they think its fun
and for those flaming you they probably already have the pets or have friends who do.
or even worse could even be the ones who did this in the first place0 -

concerning some of the malicious comments:
Envy. Your comment fails to address the issue and you use phallacy as argument. Ergo it is unfounded, and therefore dumb. Don't you love things ironic?
Fuzzles. I support diversity, you have every right to desire women to posses male genitalia.
Orihimeie. Your comment is also unfounded, ticketing follows very strict rules and is not meant as a way for users to express their opinions on rules interpretation which (oh my golly!) forums are supossed to cover.0 -
ok - so lets just say everyone stops killing these pets and every veno can sit and wait on a little list knowing who is next in line so all is fair and everyone gets one!
now how would u like that - the pets wont be rare anymore, if u wanted to sell them they would be woth nothing (yes im being extreme but surely bringing TaC into this is more extremist)
also if these pets shouldnt be killed and its against TaC then surely they wont 'be able' to die, like immune to it
please would people stop Q_Q'in about this - its getting old[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

It would be great if you stopped pretending like you know anything.
And I'm not even sure how what I have said is a fallacy, I simply chose to not point out how completely **** his claim of killing a kill able monster in game is against TOS.
Sorry, I just figured most halfway intelligent people could figure it out on there own. Guess not.

Neither Pandora nor MT have posted anything nearly as dumb as this.
The logic is there, you just can not comprehend it
Guess killing belial is against TOS to because it gives mats for weapons that other players with out a large guild can acquire, your logic is so great.0 -

I'm not advocating any kind of list. In my post, I even said that the pets do die sometimes in the process of taming with only other Venomancers around.
What I'm complaining against, is that fact that a high level, non-Venomancer blatantly killed the pet, purely out of spite such that no one would be able to tame it. This player was so high level, that a single attack killed the pet - clearly, this player had absolutely no purpose in doing this besides causing grief to other players.
Regardless, actions against players that do such would in no way make these pets 'common' by any aspect. As I also stated in my original post, high level Venomancers have many advantages over lower level players regarding pet taming.Envy - Lost City wrote: »Neither Pandora nor MT have posted anything nearly as dumb as this.

I have absolutely no idea who Pandora nor MT are. I don't frequent forums, usually due to trolls. My post was made as a suggestion, which is what this forum is for.
My logic, as it is, is perfectly understandable, if you actually take the time to try. Players are killing a rare mob, for no reason besides spite. This negatively affects the game, hence meeting the requirement of that section of the Terms of Service.
I am not playing on a PvP server. My character is under level 30. There is absolutely nothing I can do, in game, to stop players from killing the rare pets. Therefore, I am doing the only option I have left - informing the developers of my concerns, and hoping that they will do something about it.
If you don't like my suggestion, then I ask that you refrain from posting. There is no reason for it.
If you do like my suggestion, then I also ask that you refrain from posting, unless you can provide solid evidence of other circumstances where this problem occurred. I have made my posts, and if the developers want to read it and do something about it, they will.0 -

clearly i was being sarcastic and showing you how extremist it is to bring ToS into this. As many of us have said before - this is the game with the rare pets - they are still rare because of all the factors you said above - yes ppl do kill it - wow lets ban people dropping things when the get pk'd cos its 'unfair' and yes veno's will kill it too - seriously this is the way that these pets r still rare, u want it that bad then u will keep trying and u will love it loads more - or do what the rest of us do - grind a bit save some cash and buy the damn thing
oh and if you didnt want people to reply to you post - then dont post - send a ticket - forums are here for discussion[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

If someone has been harassing you, i believe you should be opening a ticket giving specifics and not posting that here in these forums (because sometimes people make mistakes).0

I am very much sure that what youve said is phallacy, try reading Aristotle. This is not an opinion but a statement of fact. BTW you also incurred in phallacy on your response to me. I have neither the time or inclination to go into a lenghty explanation of something that basic culture or sensitivity should allow you to easily understand, so i'll limit myself to saying that you made a character attack the basis for your dismissing an argument that you did fail to address, and that the asumption of a position being self evident is intellectually flawed. No doubt you subscribe to contemporary zeitgeist in believing your opinion to be valid without the need of supporting it through the use of reason, but this is very much against well over two millenia of western thought as a tradition. I never pretended "to know anything" this is yet again a phallacy and your saying something does not in any way make it true.
The original poster made a well thought out and articulate case for considering against the game stated rules that some people go out of their way to harrass and inconvenience other players. Any high level (e.g. experienced) user should know rare pets to be a valuable resource to the veno class. Furthermore to proceed to killing said rare pets whilst other users try to tame it's disrespectful and inconsiderate. While I do not consider valid the argument that the sole fact that you can actually do so makes it appropiate, this at least is an argument. It seems to me however that the sole fact that you have capacity to do something does not not imply an inherent right to do so, and this is an ethics issue which most contemporary comentators have settled on the assertion that it is not correct to do so. Hence private vengeance is considered a crime in all of today's nation states, disregarding what the conditions of praxis may be.
To take advantage of the anonimity inherent in this media to indulge in what in other contexts would be considered antisocial behaviour is an idiotic and cowardly thing to do, wether in game or in the forums. People who resort to insults and mistake vulgarity with wit are a source of trouble in any comunity, ours is not an exception.0 -

Much drama in this thread. b:surrender
Killing the spawn that only happens every 12 hours or so is an inconvenience to those who are attempting to attain it. Many seem to be unsympathetic to the overall reason surrounding the post.
Personally if a high level player camps those spots and gets the egg, that's their right as much as anyone who is a low level or otherwise. However, killing what many people are attempting to attain is a form of griefing. I'm sure there's going to be people who will argue with me on this but it is a simple fact.
I noticed people brought up comments about PKing and all that. That is a optional choice/preference between anyone involved whereas this situation with a non-veno instantly killing a rare pet before it can be tamed is an entirely different matter which the ones attempting to attain it have no control over.0 -

I fail to see how a lvl 70+ gets good exp out of killing a lvl 9 monster.
I play a veno, though I have no interest in these rare pets so I really have no qualms about someone killing it. In fact, if I ever saw one, I'd walk away and leave it. At any rate, a possible solution exists for this (and it doesn't involve bans). Anyone remember the quest to obtain the taming skill? With the traps and the sacred beast thing? Yeah. Simply make the monster immune to damage. It would mean that it would be harder to tame since you can't lower its HP (making it actually be sort of rare to have), but no one would be killing it out of spite. The monsters are on a timer anyway that makes them disappear if no one tames or kills it and the coding for the immunity already exists so it would only be a matter of applying the code to the spawn. If this was done, someone would have a new pet, other people would walk away disappointed (like they do anyway), no one gets banned, and the drama dies down a little. Every body wins.0 -

People IRL are also killable. So just because they are, there should be no penalty for killing them? That's your way of thinking.Main characters

OMG
do you realise how ridiculous that is?
is it against the 'rules'(law) to kill in real life? yes!!!
is it against the rules to kill a mob...............................these pets are just mobs

Its been proven that people take things they do in games and do them in real life as well.
"The people are just mobs, they are in my way. I'm trying to get a promotion in my job and that guy was in my way so I killed him. Gets me killing exp. and levels me up to the next position."
You say "its just a mob" in the game, which translates to "its just a person" IRL.Main characters
Celestial Sage Venomancer Zoe - 100
Sage Barbarian Malego - 910 -
well, the laws and physics of this games world are already writen sooo....
it seem kinda mean to take away the rights of others?
any indvidual has the power to do what they want within the characters physical being. so if some one has the power to attack what they see fit, then they can kill it at their will.
hahaha, when did online gaming become a whole socialogical drama?
if you want the pet, get stronger.
if someone kills it that sucks. if your on a PvP server, swarm their **** like there is no tommarow!
but then again that is just me.
good luck with the court issue!b:laugh0
