They always demo their new engine but that doesn't mean it will be used for remaking PW, they have several engines like for pw is angelica (cmiiw), then there is angelica 3 (maybe angelica 2 as well), I also read about a combat engine shadowland 3 , if PW is going to be remade, logically it should use the renewed successor angelica 3.

1- They did mention this certain engine is being developed by the company (Perfect World or Wanmei) for Perfect World Online (MMO, Wanmei Goji. Wanmei Shijie is the company, tho both are Perfect World in chinese).
Yes, I know Angelica 3D and Angelica 2 and 3. I think Angelica 2 was used for Forsaken World, and Angelica III for Swordsman Online and Saint Seiya Online, then an upgraded version of Angelica III for World of Jade Dynasty.
2- Furthermore, if you followed Swordsman Online before, the first time I saw it, it had almost the same visuals and gameplay as Perfect World's most MMOs like JD, PWI, and FW , but Wanmei Shijie kept on delaying the launch date and held many test phases, then suddenly the game disappeared for couple of months without updates. Few months later, at Chinajoy 2012, only to find out they've been revamping the game to be able to compete with most new MMOs that year which was Age of Wushu and Blade and Soul that made them come up with overhauling the visuals, gameplay, 2.5D view to full 3D game, etc.
3- I was also one of those who expected an engine upgrade 2-3 years back when PW announced the coming back of the original Archosaur Studios with new engine which was the Shadowlands III engine, but it turned out the same graphics with just new race and classes - Nightshade. But I think they were just teasing this new engine or perhaps they've been working with it since then and showed just now. Or... if you also saw one of the recent interviews of PWE with the developers of PWI over in China, they were asked about the possible engine upgrade or the chance of using the Angelica III (Swordsman) for Perfect World, but the developer said they were looking for some other engine other than the Angelica III.
I am certain this is true, because not only 17173.com and other chinese media made an article about it, but the same information could also be found in the official website of PWcn, w2i.wanmei.com. It didn't say a new game or an upgrade of the old engine, it says NEW ENGINE BEING DEVELOPED FOR PERFECT WORLD ONLINE. So Swordman Online was never been released with the old engine, and suddenly released with the new engine. I just watched a video of it and it's pretty good, if the engine were used for PW it should be able to retain the same gameplay with lock-on targetting (there is also a crosshair tho, not sure if it means anything, lots of gameplay I watched don't seem to show any use of it). Everything looks similar but ton times better.
I can't imagine Perfect World as a **** and slash type action game, how cleric heals without targetting, probably busy moving the mouse for locking allies. I hope PW will be remade with the new engine but still retain the same gameplay.0 -
I think this interface is quite different, it will probably be a reboot. I already liked that the intervaface seems to be much more "Clean". These days Perfect World has become a very complex game, there is a lot of things to reborn, to reforge. Like it or not this is becoming tricky to attract new players. I personally stayed 3 years without playing. Since then I have been following some forums and I understand almost nothing of what has been released. I dont know if anyone here is open to discuss about what's in the video, but I've heard people saying that's just a demonstration of the power and capacity of the new engine, which by the way is already expected for a long time by the players . This seems plausible since it would be a very tricky move so many players: expect the Perfect World players to simply embrace this new one and leave everything that was done behind, especially the cash. Now the problem with this hypothesis is that, it doesnt make much sense to show this "gameplay footage" if it is not the actual game.
Perfect World would not be the first mmorpg to make a fully-complete reboot and open new(s) server (s) just for that new reboot. Of course, if this is thuth will be the end of the current Perfect World. The modeling, the engine, the graphics effects simply can not be reused or remastered. From the point of view of a game developer and I have been studying in this area, it is impractical for you to remaster so much material done for 10 years, it is easier to do something from scratch.
The information I collected and the interviews given by the producers, this new graphic engine will enable:
- More things happening on the screen at the same time. More monsters, better physics of the elements, particles.
- Better climate change.
- The way the characters move and how they use skills while moving will be much more fluid.
- It will have a greater interaction with the other characters and monsters, as far as the kinematics of the fight become more interactive as in the part of the mechanics of game.
- Some areas of certain environments will be destructible.
- Mechanics of handling include change also in air combat mechanics.
- The customization of the characters will also be more varied.
- The textures, effects of light, physics, hair will be much better. Characters with hair getting into the body? Who has never seen it? LOL
That the new graphics look good we know, now the question is how far this will still looks like Perfect World, I mean, the mechanics of gameplay, the possibilities of "countering" the enemy skills, the combos we enjoy soo much. Visually it feel a certain similarity even in the creative inspiration, the Chinese architecture mixed with mythological elements.
In the video there's a dude that looks like a barbarian. No? I think so.
The question that everyone wanna know is: If there will be assasins and they will continue to be so OVERPOWER !? hahaha

That video doesnt looks like something to show engine's power to process texture, light and physics. That looks more like a "gameplay footage". I've been watching graphic engines conferences my entire life.
It's almost ridiculous to say that this is just a test to show the engine's power. They're hiding something. That's for sure!0 -

Those links make me even more hopeful. If they want to make a mobile version of an 8-year-old game, it shows that they care about it enough to put more development into it. Especially the "sharing the same game world" line there. If the mobile version is in the same persistent world generated for the PC, one would think that the only effective difference between the PC and mobile versions would be UI. The PC version should get the graphics update as well.

To be in charge for game developement decisions has to be painful these days.
On the one side are western PC gamers with 16-40 lane, 4-8 core CPUs, sli/xfire GPUs and 4-5k/21:9 curved wide screens.
Those people expect reasonable game engine developements and new gaming experiences.
On the other side you can just exploit those monkeys which play 20-30 y/o reloaded "games" on their 1280x720 smartphones and are willing to throw big money after you by "micro" transactions (which sum up faster than the average m. can count).
In addition PW CN has still to care about those Chinese which still play on toasters (I suppose they have become less over time).
I'm switching more and more to offline content for exactly this reason. The power gap between the "PC master race" and the low level player folk has become extremely huge. We all have seen or even played Witcher 3. Who of us wants LESS in the future?
I for one want even way more. Those current 20+ y/o gaming concepts became boring. The younglings and new kids on the block even prefer now to just watch pewdiepie playing an indie game instead of playing a game themselves.0 -

Oh when was that? 2012? 2013? I'm sure SylenThunder has the exact date somehwere. Imagine how it would revitalize the game to get a new game engine that actually used our hardware. I don't even care much about graphical changes, just able to make it so a bunch of people in Archosar doesn't bring my FPS down to a crawl. I cannot even imagine what TW is like.0 -
TW is awful because even good computers will drop to 1-2 FPS unless you set your settings really low, but then it's still a struggle to play because you won't see attack animations or players. It's just not fun. It was somewhat manageable before the Eclipse expansion, but with the addition of Stormbringer vortexes, Elysium skills (hello, Venomancer ultimate skill) and the latest Glyph skills (looking at you, Mystic skill), TW has become something I'd rather not do.
It's a little better in xTW because there are fewer players and a bigger map, so players are spread out. There are chances you'll get some fun battles somewhere on the map. That is unless the fight reaches the base, and then it becomes no better than TW.
I'm sure Wanmei is working on something since this game is still very popular and profitable in China (and maybe a few other regions, too). It would make sense to upgrade the engine, but PWI will probably close down before we ever get to experience it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It would make sense to get to a point of PWI where getting this done would bring so many players back.

I would think if the new engine would be more action fighting instead of tabtargeting it would attract a lot more people as well as allow the game to compete more with other more popular mmo's today. Otherwise nothing about it would make a difference0

Speaking as a player of healing classes, we'd at the very least need to target to heal our allies. That's an important part of this game.

Action fighting does not really fit the design of the game so I would play that down. But who knows who knows

In order to target and heal your friendlies in an action combat you're gonna have to do more that click and press heals etc. Your going to follow them with your mouse and press heals. It's done in other games. You don't need to lock on, especially having also aoe heals.

I don't think PW should change into an action combat game, assuming the rumored engine upgrade will indeed happen. Doing so might hurt the game rather than help it appeal to more people, especially considering how buggy it might be. Let's be honest, PW's developers really aren't that great and they make weird game design choices such as adding NPCs that sell you items via the quest function or making quest items go in the character's inventory even though we have a Quest Bag.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but we also have the game's code being fairly messed up due to Wanmei attempting to publish an incomplete MMORPG, changing developers and such. I don't know if an engine upgrade would help with that.
Another thing is, I once played a fairly popular action combat MMORPG and I feel like it really wouldn't work that well with PW being focused/designed towards mass PvP. Action combat seems to favor 1v1 and small scale PvP like 6v6. Though, again, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. There might be some good action combat MMORPGs out there that work for mass PvP.
Lastly, I feel like PW's target combat still has its charm. It makes the game more relaxing and easy-going than the other MMORPG I played, which actually made me feel tired at times yet I could play PWI for hours (when I have free time that is). All while it can still get "intense" in PvP when there's a good battle.
Basically, PW should not be changed and turned into something it wasn't originally designed to be. In my opinion, it will work best if it sticks to itself.

I'm just waiting for when peopel add "Server Change" and "Class Change" to the game xD
But to be honest bear in mind the game we call is called perfect Worlds and the company is also called that or Perfect Worlds Entertainment. By the looks of it the start of the viedo looks a lot like the barb class with a lion head and the start with the little creatures in the earthguard starter area. The rest does not unless you tilt your head 33 degrees to the left i.e. cities in the sky.
The only real issue about this is that it may effect my play style as I like to dual log my barb and veno and play together simultaionously, I dought with this update (if it is) will let me do this still or as well.
My other issue is fashion and if that will have any animation or not. Becuase I may possibly be tempted into wearing armour only rather than fash if they make the g16 aa look less bug like and the r9 aa cooler looking. <.< Ha armour still looks the best.
But with the size of the neverfall expansion and how big that is I rather dought that an update this large will be done before the release the north, east and south expansions of the main map. Unless they rather do it with the never engine and phrase in all the currect existing stuff ingame to it.
Another thing I have noticed as I have been makign new charater and doing old chains again. I have seen A LOT of graphic updates on npcs and bosses as I go though the older chains e.g. the rebirth chain. Theses sort of slight changes that make things look cooler and less clones of other npcs makes me wonder what's the point if a bigger all round change is coming. Unless they just gettign some idea out there whe they come to it.

I don't know , i would think that the tradeoff of loosing guaranteed heals to reducing the amount of damage that youd take is better as a whole. It would be harder to cc enemies meaning healers would have an easier time anyways. In any case, action combat would take away some of the benefits of the game that we have currently but we will just have to see how that works when the time comes I guess.catgirldesu wrote: »

As for this, I definitely agree it's just that at some point pw needs something to revitalize the benefits of playing that we just aren't getting in the current version. Action combat is just a suggestion though and I am sure there are many things that would change that could make the game more inviting to play for both new and current players.
