Who am I?

Hello people!
I know a few of you have been wondering who this mysterious person is suddenly posting around, so I stole Kalyst's introduction post for a template.

Who are you?
Only the Shadow knows...
Seriously though, I've been around a while, but I hopped from game to game. I haven't been on the PWI forum since before the migration to Vanilla. Until more recently that is.

How long have you been working at PWE?
Nope, I don't work at PWE. I'm just a "regular Joe" like the rest of you guys.
(I probably should have left this one out, but it was fun anyway.)

Do you play PWI?
Yes. I was around when there were only 3 (I think) servers. I just started again not long ago on Etherblade, but have not had much time to play.

So how long have you been playing PWI?
If we put it all together, a few years. I remember the "glory days" from back when you could buy gold in the AH for under a mil. Sadly, everyone that I used to play with has either had to stop playing, or has lost interest. As such, I started on the closest server to me with a new character. (Apparently I can get to the same levels I was at in a very short period of time.) When I played before, getting to level 95 was a major accomplishment, and TT99 gear was end-game.

What class do you play?
I was an Axe BM in a previous life. I will probably toy around with a Seeker, but I'm still learning the new classes (New char is a Stormbringer, and I'm kind of liking it.) I haven't decided what my end goal is for my character yet, I'm just playing to have fun.

What other games do you play?
Skyrim mostly. I have played FW, NW, ST, pretty much every PWE game in at least the Beta test stage. Most were closed betas though. I'm liking Empyrion for space survival/crafting, but it's still in the Alpha and gets boring kind of fast. I have a PS4 that I play a few games on, but the PC is my main system. (we're skirting a rule kind of closely here, so I won't say more.)

Anything else?
I like to help out. I think it's what makes me a good support person. I'm a free thinker, and like to look at both sides of the equation. I have been a part of several different communities, so that makes it easier to see where some of you are coming from when you post.
Oh, and I'm a geek. Most of my life I have been tied to a computer or game system. B)

Also, please keep in mind that forum moderation isn't always a walk in the park. Sometimes we have to make hard descisions about posts, or entire threads. We aren't trying to quench your ideas, or what you are trying to say. We are just enforcing the forum rules.
I don't have strong ties to any particular group or faction on the servers. So when I am moderating, I'm not judging. I'm not biased.

I am more curious as to HOW you got to be moderator.
"Seriously though, I've been around a while, but I hopped from game to game. I haven't been on the PWI forum since before the migration to Vanilla. Until more recently that is."

So you came back recently, and boom you're mod? Because that's what it looks like. Registered to vanilla forums march 22nd, the next day you locked a thread.

@kalystconquerer#0876 where's my mod status, i've been away for a little while now too, i'm disappointed.

I have been helping and advising quite a bit in the background. Though I have not been active with this account here, I have been in these (PWE) forums for a while. I also been providing support in other PWE titles, so it's not like I'm a brand new.

The PWE forums have been lacking moderators for a while. Back before the forum migration there was OPKossy, oVenusArmanio, Krisinda, and SylenThunder. To the best of my knowlege, the only active moderator for at least the past year was SylenThunder.
That's a lot of work for one dude. So, I came to help, and we are asking for your thoughts on adding more moderators, and I have a couple of suggestions in mind there myself.

As I am posting this, the Vanilla forums appear to be having connectivity issues, so I've sent off a notification to the team for support.

Update - The issue's origin has been traced back to Vanilla's upstream provider who is currently working to determine the exact nature of the problem.

I just hope one of those suggestions isn't a specific person, that'd mean trouble most likely.

Still can only think of 2 suitable people, of which 1 doesn't even want to be it.

To be honest, back in the day the forum was a lot more active than it is now, the activity currently is just sad and doesn't require a whole lot of moderating.

They should first finally fix this forum to begin with tiger-18.gif

SylenThunder has been working with the team for a long while on getting the forum fixed up. I know some of the tech, but I'm not as good as he is with it. I think it largely has to do with the teams involved. Part of it is done on the PWE side, and part of it probably has to be done by Vanilla.

I wonder if we are thinking of the same people. Watching a lot of the recent posts, I have two in mind myself, and I seem to recall years ago one of them saying they didn't want it. Maybe we can change their mind.

As of about 5 minutes ago, Vanilla says they've implemented a fix for the forum issue. It seems to be working better now.

I'm unsure what caused the sudden forum activity drop off, especially with an employee actively engaging on the forums now. I wonder if there was a migration I missed to Reddit or Discords or even Facebook, since a majority of my communication will go through here or FB first (admittedly, players get the most contact on the forums).

While it's not too active, I can't say that I entirely miss the 500+ page saga that was that one trolling thread back in the day. Am I the only one that even remembers that thread?

Aye, welcome aboard! I hope we won't cause too much trouble in terms of being moderated. tiger-2.gif

I believe many players stopped being active on the forums after the migration. A lot of people prefered the old forums and didn't have the patience/willingness to give this one a try. It also didn't help that every link became broken ruining several player-written guides in the process.

I didn't really like these forums at first either, but Asterelle's Forum Enhancement makes it a lot more fun by having all these smileys. I also appreciate the fact that I can use pictures and actual videos in any thread which makes my guides a lot easier/fun to read. Plus, following that one thread where Asterelle and some others were testing how much they can break these forums was a blast. I remember all the crazy stuff that resulted from it. Oh, and we can have custom avatars, including animated ones! Now I can properly express my love for fluffy tails.

Another downside is not having Asterelle's SweetieBot. She was a really fun and useful bot that greatly enhanced the forum experience. I'm pretty sure some players would visit the forums just to play with the bot, and consequently end up participating in other threads as well. Then, maybe some people became discouraged when they lost their post count and ability to edit their old threads/guides. We used to have a "top post count list" on the old forums.

Big updates often do bring some people back on the forums though (looking for answers etc.) so I expect to see a rise in activity tomorrow.

    Welcome Back from myself,

Thanks for the introduction as well good to know you have seen PWE around the block.

@kalystconquerer#0876 the problem may be your doing to much of a good job so people don't complain and their for don't need to visit the forums as much. Tho Im sure I can make a post that will run 500+ if you think this is of importance and your feeling like you need more to do.

Also Sweetiebot and this system called Vanilla (Broken Links from old forum) forum lay out which has taken months. Also this time last year we had an Easter Find the Eggs Competition. Domino really did an eggscellent job with that, Sadly it just was not boiled enough to make the yoke. Ok I did not just do that.

Read FW and thought you meant Freedom Wars. Realized it's just another PWE game. I'm disappoint.

Really? I don't think it's that hard to figure out...

    Um, this ^
    ...

Yeah, the move to Vanilla, and the way it was completely mishandled is largely what killed the forum activity. Pushing Arc down everyone's throat didn't help either, especially since it was barely functional at the time.

That drove a lot of the seasoned players away. They just went to newer and better titles that had better management and actual support.
It's what's been killing PWI for a few years now.
