Colour Discrimination

Maybe I can shed some additional light on this topic, but at the very least I can ramble on for days about it!

I was on LC for almost 6 years, but I took a break for a while and went to DW. I really enjoyed my time there. Some things I noticed in general about DW (and I'd assume all pve servers) : holy **** there's a ton of people here, people are more friendly and relaxed, factions stick together and stay around longer, and wow a lot less squad fails. When there was a squad failure, people were more likely to work it out, try again, explain exactly what needed to be done if newbs, etc, without flying off the handle and quitting squad and yelling and calling them names in WC.

LC was actually more like this in the beginning (minus the name-calling), a lot of people were friendly and helpful in spite of the constant rpk and I do mean constant. It wasn't a question - it was a given, you were going to die if you left safezone. The only question was how many times. There was at least one guild very well known for their pvp / rpk activity that were pretty horrible at pve. But you'd kinda expect that on a pvp server.

Everyone was busy trying to level and gear up fast to get into one of the big name guilds because, among other things, that meant a degree of security while questing, and that was the only way to level back then, mainly on the open map. This started a division between the people that got there on the first day (a lot from PW-MY) and the people that started a few months later that had never seen PW before. After you learned the ins and outs, it was always a race to get to endgame, which back then was 70-80. It's worth noting that during this time, there was nothing in the cash shop to give you a great advantage other than (arguably) hp charms and dolls.

A year or more passed, then came FCC and BH and hypers, and somewhere along the line goons glitch, and voila, the first generation of power-hungry power levelers that didn't know much about how to play their chars effectively were born, and the division grew more. At the same time it forced people off the open map and there was a lot less pvp and rpk. The higher level people didn't really want to spend their time helping the newer ones because they spent all their time farming charms for TW, glitching goons in frost for their alts or guildies, and or generally seeking more power for themselves, a trait typical of pvp types. Myself included in the respect that, when BH first came out (remember there was only one at first) I cringed because I knew exactly how my time was going to be spent from now on, helping my guildies level up, because they all wanted to do BH. And rightly so, it was a good chunk of xp, so I did help them.

Somewhere around this time item linking was added to the game, so asking for weapon link was instantly adopted as a way to distinguish frost / hyper babies from the more old school (presumably better) players. For whatever illogical reason, probably because we are creatures of habit and imitation, it has stuck to this day.

With the addition of more BH, more ways to get hypers, new classes, cash shop items, op gear, packs out the wazoo, less ways to farm coin, and a thousand other changes to the game, the division between the end game and mid game players grew so huge that it put a lot of good mid game players off to the point that they quit, because in their eyes, endgame was now basically unattainable, if not the levels certainly the gear, and it surely didn't help that there were very few people available to help them with say, an fb39, when they needed it.

Now some of this surely is not unique to LC or any server for that matter, and there's a lot of broad generalizations, but hopefully this may provide some insight into our history and differences. Granted I am biased, certainly not the majority, and no expert by any means, but this is a brief glimpse of history the way I saw it. Failing all that, I hope you at least enjoyed reading my wall of text, I always enjoy a trip down nostalgia lane ^^

So in simple terms its a stupidity filter? Having explained, the evolution of LC is rather interesting.

I choose to assume that people asking for weapon links are too under-geared/stupid to run the instance themselves, so they need to make sure they get some OP person to carry them through it. samurai-42.gif
Either that, or they intentionally don't want to help the little guy that may actually need it.

I won't join the squads because they are usually conceited and full of themselves anyway. I tried a couple after the LC merge, and they failed. I mean seriously, one had a barb with almost the same hp as my cleric. For being on a second RB, that's pretty freaking bad.

Gotta agree here. You can be trash talked, killed in cube, rejected from squad for being
    - bluenamed
    - whitenamed
    - rednamed
    - in wrong faction
    - because person didn't like your gear
    - your name
    - your manners
    - your pet
    - you pet's name
    - your attitude
    - your appearance
    - your afk place
    - your existence
I don't believe none of bluenamed have never experienced any kind of harassment or discrimination in game because of other reasons o.o
    It's a MMO

So in simple terms its a stupidity filter? Having explained, the evolution of LC is rather interesting.

If one person found my huge wall of text interesting or enlightening, that makes me very happy, so thank you. I am simply trying to explain the reasons for our differences.

To answer the quoted question, I suppose you could say that. Another poster mentioned they use weapon linking as a way to determine if someone can follow simple directions. I never considered this point specifically before, but thinking about it, it's completely legitimate. So some people have different reasons.

But I believe the main reason is simply that we've always done it that way, so we just keep doing it that way. This also explains why we still to this day use some outdated terms like HH, dolls, CV, GV, etc... and in the older days, things like EP, WF, WR, MG, WB, hiero, molders, and mijis to name just a few. Many of the great(est) first generation of players on LC came from PW-MY and used these terms, so anyone that was around back then learned the game with these terms, we passed them on to the next generation, and it just stuck.

Pvp can definitely attract some less-than-desirable types. Once upon a time many years ago, the guild I was in accidentally recruited a spy from a well known rpk guild. The spy then proceeded to engage in pvp against another major guild and earned my guild a KOS. The KOS was so severe that, in a few days, it literally destroyed the guild - everyone quit, and we had about 100 people. The whole thing was a setup to wipe my guild out.

When I used to run BH regularly and make my own squads, I would usually ask people to whisper me their favourite colour, favourite food or something like that. It can be used for the "filtering out the idiots" without having the stigma of weapon/gear linking. Though I only did it for fun, the same thing applies; some people would whisper me what I asked, but others wouldn't.

Just throwing this idea out there.

It doesnt matter for the most part what weapon the cleric/bm/veno for example has they are utility characters and are there for a different purpose and this is not damage but damage amplification or healing ofc.

That is what i tell squads looking for a healer, i link my axes. BM can heal, the world is just not ready to accept this new radical idea. On top of that, lvl 1 weapons or lvl 16 weapons give us the same healing abilities. BXQjVIv.png

Welp tried several different questions for an auto invite ( what's favorite color, what's favorite pet, what's 2+4, etc) over the course of 30mins, got 1 single person who answered a question...**** it I'm going back to wep linking, least that's less character spaced used.

To be fair, being rejected for manners can be a legit reason to me, if someone has **** manners.

Personally, I reject all venos from existence because of the sole reason of them being venos. The bane of this world. The purger of buffs.

Also, next time i'm forming a squad I will demand people to link me their PWE transaction log, I want a minimum of at least 10k USD spent before anyone can enter my squad.

p.s.: for those who don't understand sarcasm, only the first sentence in my post was serious.
