Celestone fragments

So I've started playing this game again after 4-5 years (the last time I played seriously was sometime after Tideborne, just before FW came out)

Game's very very easy as of right now, but oh well. I'm just playing to occupy my time.

Anyway, what's the deal with celestone fragments now?
I have 29, and want to turn them into a mirage stone.
Last I played, you needed 25 and took a quest at a gem merchant to combine them.
The only option I have is to combine 3 of each of the other types. And yes, they are in my inventory.

I'm level 43 doing level ~30 quests if that matters much.

How do we combine them now?

    As far as I can tell, you no longer can. The gem merchant no longer has quests for conversions, only a combination recipe for turning the requisite number of earth, human and heaven celestones to a mirage.

    Well that sucks.
    I tried looking for specific information in case they did remove it, but I couldn't find anything.
    Why do quests still reward them if they're now useless? Unless they have another purpose?

    If anyone can find a specific reference to where/why it was removed, I'd like to see it (patch notes, GM post, ect).

    Are they useless then? Or can anyone make sure they have some use for anything? I have so many of them :/

    u need 10 human, 10 earth, 10 heaven for ur 89 culti but other than that im not sure of a use for them

    I never heard any definitive info on it either. A few months ago I was playing an alt, got a bunch of fragments, thought I'd exchange, and noticed as you did that the option was gone. I asked a few guildies who are usually pretty knowledgeable, but they didn't hear anything the option being intentionally removed either. I doubt adding it back in is a priority to pwi, so I'd imagine they're only good for npc'ing now. If anyone has any other info, would be nice.
