Every time i used to reboot my gaming server i would do a sql database backup, and the database for the Daemons.
The re-boot does also free up the ram.
I would imagine PWI is setup for a server per Daemon (Each server Daemon running its own ram obviously).
PWI server files are RAM hungry..
3-4 Hours seems about right for such things...including a test run on a seperate server(s) of changes.
You know the changes are not made by PWI but by whom they hire the files from.
    Just saying.

Don't use the time convertor they linked, it seems to be constantly wrong. Haven't had it be right ever for me. It's best to remember what time it started for you and add on three hours to find the ending hour. There's about half an hour left.

Hey can u explain why 2 years ago GMs where willing to help players with mistakes like making a lunar cape not realizing it binds and actually coming into the game after a patch and sending a new lunar trophy to you so long as u npced the old cape so that u can make it on the proper character u wanted it for. But now whn we send tickets in for support like this all we get is: Players are responsible for items made in game u must basically move on and get over it. What changed why are Devs being this way all the sudden. Was there a memo passed along saying dont help players anymore i cant get any answers from the gms that respond to support tickets other then the same reply: Players are responsible for items made in game. Yet 2 years ago they where willing to help me and many others in these type of situtions

Hey everyone, just a heads up, Dreamweaver will likely be down for an extended period of time tonight while the developers work on the character issues. We're working to get the other servers up as soon as possible, though.

Assumption based on observation, past experience, and market research:
With a larger and larger player base it becomes harder to support every players ona 1-1 basis just like how in schools now children get less attention individually as class sizes grow.
also with the US ECON taking a hit they would want to save money by employing fewer people thus less people to problem solve.

add to that us players always demanding every bug is fixed ASAP more important then anything else, the people they do have are getting stretched thin.

add to that the relatively high amount fo new content from CN that needs to be localized and fixed and bug checked the workload is huge leaving little time for 1-1 support.

the down side, this hurts player trust and fewer people spend money on the game, hitting PWEs bottom line, this means they have less money to get more people, and possible causing layoffs reducing staff even more, causing more problems, less care, and then less ppl buying zen.

add to all that all the games PWE is hosting and handling now, it can become a overwhelming problem quite quickly.

the cure, be patent with PWE know they are only human and doing what they can, hopefully they will get a good break from crises problems to work on small stuff, clear the back log, boost player confidence and spending, hire more people and continue that fixing more bugs and getting that 1-1 support again.

...that's wonderful. Juuuuust wonderful. But hopefully the character issues will be resolved.

Can we have a rough estimate of what time you hope to have Dreamweaver up by?

    What character issues??
I heard about people's items go missing / swapped.
    That what you talking about?

I thought this was a simpler server restart?
Why the delay in all servers coming online? b:cry

The server restart used to take like 1.5 to 2 hours.
Now seems to always have complications lately... b:angry

Probably the items being swapped and people being unable at all to log in to their characters. I'm glad they missed me but I can imagine how frustrating it is for other people.

back a year or so ago pwe would give shot down time estimates to help infer confidence in a rapid reboot, however, they do try to fix things and often over ran the allotted maintenance time making people angry OR didn't fix everything and either left problems or make things worse with half fixes.

Add to that, more people + more items + more servers = longer times on file back-ups and accessing on the reboot.

seeing the problem of almost routinely taking "to long" for maintenance they extended the window to allow more time to do things right.

if players want to help shorten maintenance times, go to your horde of items, and army of bank alts, and clear stuff out, reduce the size of the database, one person won't change much but if enough ppl do this it will make a difference.
