I understand that (supposedly) level 1-80 was redone with the most recent expansion. Its been a while since I've played and while I enjoyed the game a lot, I could never get high enough to do things with other people which, lets face it, makes this game dull, as if it was a single player mmo.

Is this game worth coming back to and actually trying or is it just an endless boring grind? The rebirth system seems pretty cool
How is group PvE at high levels?
Is the game still quest for 20% of a level then kill the same mob for the rest?

Bad time to come back. Hypers are disabled in FC atm. However there are a lot more things given now to help level you. Harbinger and Perfect Quest master both give items for instant exp. That will help until FC is fixed. There is also auto culti where you can set your toon to kill mobs for several hours. Pair that with a gworm and you should do ok.

well ive always been pretty against power leveling of that sort
if i just quest and whatnot while talking with some guildies (assuming i can find a guild, is there a guild finder system?) will i be fine? im not looking to hit cap in a few days, but i want something thats somewhat challenging and doesnt want to make me kill myself

Depends how far back you're talking, if you mean 2008/early 2009 style, where you'd complete every quest on level up and only have 10% or so built to next level, that's been gone for quite a while. We now have BHs you can stack to get a large chunk of xp in one go through a FB instance and free charms for the lower levels each day. You can gather a group to do PV runs if you want to get some xp fast by killing a bunch of mobs in AoE instead of one at a time.

And that doesn't take long, so if you just want to jump to the next level after completing everything for your level, you can use it that way so it doesn't feel like power leveling (think of it as being used to give better xp than the quests usually give). There's a good amount of content if you want to complete the quests, and use the added content just to finish a level, or just power through it. A lot more control of how fast you level, so in that regard it's a decent enough time to come back and mess around.

Honestly, nowadays you have so many quests, EXP items, and so on thrown at you that even if you only do the quests you're given and ignore dailies, you'll still find yourself flooded with quests and seeing yourself level up faster than you can go through your quests for a fairly large chunk of time. Add in things like daily repeatable quests into the mix and really leveling won't ever be a real issue... at all. At least not before the mid-80s where the quests that haven't been revamped are. And even then leveling still isn't that difficult.

If you take the old approach of just questing and grabbing the daily quests, you'll be fine. I suggest keeping an eye out for dreamchaser pack codes as the items and equipment those give tend to be extremely good and will server you very well

Pick one near your time zone. We have a european server now if having various weekly events at 5 AM isn't your favorite thing in the world. Archosaur is somewhat of a ghost town and when it comes to Harshlands... the less said about the state of things there the better. Sanctuary and Heaven's Tear are both still large and active, as is Lost City if you want PvP.

Raging Tides normally seems more active than Dreamweaver as well.
