The original purpose for the forum was for discussion, NOT guides, the PW WIKI is for PW information and guides. So I can not wonder why people insist on miss using these and putting things in the wrong places.
When I started playing I could not find the information in the PW Wiki and never thought to look in the discussion pages of a forum so it took me a long time to discover what I needed to do.

I know most of the people will never change this BAD habit and continue to put guides into the discussion medium but I wish they would, it is better to separate discussion and pure facts and information about the game.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!" He took his vorpal sword in hand: Long time the manxome foe he sought -- So rested he by the Tumtum tree, And stood awhile in thought. And, as in uffish thought he stood, The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, Came whiffling through the tulgey wood, And burbled as it came!--Poem part by: Lewis Carroll

Moved this to it's own thread because it doesn't really belong in that particular guide.

As for the original purpose of the forums, it's been a place you could access guides since beta. The first thread in the beginner's subforum are from July 2008. Guides have always been a part of the forums, and it has never just been a discussion only place. For me personally, I didn't even realize this game had a wiki for the longest and went to the beginner's guide section of the forums to access guides at first.

Looking at the revision history of the wiki's main pages, I can't even find a page older than 2009. So I'm not even sure if the wiki has been a place for guides and info as long as the forums have been. I wasn't here before 2009 so I wouldn't know. It would make sense if it wasn't though since lots of people look here for info as well and putting guides and tools on the forums has been a long standing tradition.

edit: nvm the wiki was indeed introduced in 2009, here is thread about it. And I've been around longer than the wiki. >:D

So yeah this was the original place for guides, so it makes sense that the forums became known for having that type of information.

I don't know how other people see the concept of the forums but I've always considered them a place not only for discussion but also for finding information, asking questions, guides and the like so it didn't seem weird to me that we have guides here.

I discovered the wiki a little later after I started actively posting (previously was just lurking). I generally post my guides on the PWI wiki shortly after I post them here* but some "guides" are more of a discussion and/or presenting thoughts and findings rather than a complete guide so I leave those out.

The wiki also has a lot of links to the forums including links to the "original guides" (the forum threads) that the wiki guides were based on so I think people are often directed to and lead to the forums anyway.

    * I need to post the War Avatar guide on the wiki some time >.>

What in the world is so bad about guides posted on the forum? I visit the forums for updated information since it tends to be cleaned up much more frequently than the wiki

    The way I see it...

Wiki is for "quick" information. It is used to find simple answers to simple questions, introducing the basics. Forum guides are more in-depth and also allow discussion and corrections to be made.
