Crystal of Grudge: Invalid Mission

so, i've had this Crystal of Grudge in my inventory forever, finally remembered to goto Unicorn Forrest to sell it to the correct npc to get it out of my inventory. everytime i try to sell it i just get an error: "Invalid Mission". known bug or do i need to take/activate some other quest to be able to do it?

I think it's one of the broken quests that's been broken a long time. I sill have the item in my bank I think.

im not trying to sell it to the normal merchant npc, im trying to sell it back to the NPC that sells you them (like that post suggests). but when i do it says "Invalid Mission", and crystal of grudge stays in my bag.
