I have a friend on the Hashland server who was recent pmed by a character named Adminthanto (or something like that he says) claiming to be a GM. He says they threatened to ban him for multi-clienting to many characters and asked him for his account info to conduct there investigation. He says he gave them his account and I personally find it fishy that a GM would ask. He claims so far nothing on his account was taken. I told him to change his account information and he did, but I also wanted to know what you guys think. Does a GM even have to ask for your account information?

Absolutely no, that was a fake and it's a good thing he has changed his info, remember, GMs will NEVER ask for your account info.

No, they would never ask for the info. They have the logs of everyone's actions, including the IPs where they logged from.

You know it's a GM talking to you because the whisper says GM: no-matter what their name is.

If you haven't got that, then they're standing in front of you and you can see the GM symbol next to their name.

If you don't have either of those, then it's not a GM at all.

like above, GM's don't need to have your info, they can get it any info from the logs and the db('s)

Anyone asking for account info is trying to steal your account.

First post and already being an idiot.

Ever thought that maybe the friend is young and/or very new to mmos? If I'd never heard of stuff like this happening, I wouldn't know what to do if someone came to me saying they are a GM. Especially if I didn't know if multi-clienting was OK or not. How'd this person know I am using multiple clients? Must be a GM.

And with a game like this where we hardly see GMs, the newer folks have no idea what to look for.

But like others have said. No GM will ask for account info. Should report and maybe something will be done about the person impersonating a GM.

Like every Above has said .. at no Point will a GM ever. ask for such info. the reason some one needs the info so they can access the account .. giving that info out is a breach of ToS which is ban able because none is allowed to play on another's account ever. EVER.

Screen..Shots.. I dare some one to come at me with such a scam on harshlands or any server for that matter.

we "Joke" about no GMs .. but they are there.. they may not respond the moment you want them to.. they might not respond.. but they are there. and support tickets are there for a reason. Aginst ToS.. Defenitly .. Posing as a GM/Admin of any game can and will get you ban.

the thing is this.. without proper evidence to prove your claim all they can do is keep an eye out or sift threw archived logs to try to find the info.. with a screen shot they are cought red handed. the next time some one says somthing like that to you or your friend screen shot it. and send it in.

it isnt a game it isnt a joke..and it isnt funny. they arnt doing it as a joke. they are doing because somewhere out there there is people dumb enough/ just dont know better and they are going to give them their info. they might say in chat when questioned .. oh i was just playing around but. had that info been given maybe not that very second but in the near future that account would be stolen.

Screen shots are real simple and there is litterly dozens of ways to take them that dont breach terms of service. the in game method F9 dont forget to uncheck hide UI so the chat window dosnt disapear for the shot.. take multiple..scroll threw that chat window and get the whole conversation.. if they admit in chat that they know its an exploit and their doing it knowing that they shouldn't be able to .. and the GM's/support team see that then . the pently is alot more sever. not to mention posing as a GM not to mention they Know of the exploit and are exploiting it knowing it is in fact an exploit. but they are also attempting to steal accounts .. some of which somone has probly spent thousands of real life money on.

you could use software like fraps.. i do..its awesome. if i dont feel like screen shotting it .. ill just hit record and send that to the gms so they can watch it for themselves. but usaly a Screen shot will suffice.

i wont place names...but i have had scamer's come at me in the past.. and i can promise you the GM team took care of it. i know they did for a fact as that player hasn't been seen sense. nobody deserves to have their account stolen.. and that is why the PWI team puts warnings on the login screen.. thats why they want you to be familure with ToS. thats why you DON'T GIVE ANYONE YOUR INFO.

your freind probly didnt know any better.. but hopfully he/she learns from it. and hopfully he really did change his info. he probly hasnt spent real life money but that just as bad IMO because F2P has put that much more time and effort in their characters. and P2P players well they have invested probly thousands into their account by the time they are end gaming.

No GM will ever ask you for any sort of account information under any circumstances.

The other posts in this thread have also given you various ways to identify when an actual GM is speaking to you.

I strongly suggest you submit a ticket about this ASAP.
