I'm getting mixed feed back about having a sky cover ring on a wizard, my cleric friend thinks it dumb to have 1, and that I should use a cloud stir ring instead. My other guild mates say go for the sky cover the pdef is great, still confused as to what I should buy tho.

I would like to know whats the benfit of moon's embrace/star destiny ring for wizard.

Open to all feed back, thank you for time :)

Well, it is a tradeoff, but I use my pdef ring instead of my mdef ring probably 95% of the time. For my gear and when I'm self buffed, the pdef ring reduces the physical damage I take by ~23%, and the matk ring increases my damage by ~5% and reduces elemental damage I take by ~6% (also -6% channel). Being that I feel my damage is more than sufficient, it makes sense to use my pdef ring most of the time.

One thing to note though is that sky cover only gives pdef when you refine it, so if you were planning to keep it low refine.. it won't give much pdef and likely won't be worth it. If you can afford to refine it up along with your gear, it will really help you survive against physical damage. Can you post a pwcalc of your gear?

Nah, your gear is fine. I take it that is 5691 pdef unbuffed and are you sage/demon (do you have sage/demon stone barrier?).

You can never have enough pdef, but at a certain point getting more hp will help you survive better. For example, if you were comparing a +pdef add that would reduce the physical damage you take by 4%.. if instead you could increase your hp by 5%.. getting the hp would be better.

Anyway, it looks like if you got a +10 sky cover, you'd gain 2209 pdef self buffed.. which means you'd be taking ~17% less physical damage. You would however lose ~900 matk as well, which is roughly 4-5% of your matk. If I were in your shoes and could afford to get a +10 sky cover.. it would be an easy choice for me (sky cover all the way), although it would be more and more difficult as you lowered the refine on the sky cover. I'm not really sure where exactly it wouldn't be worth it anymore.. but if it were +7, that would be ~8-9% less physical damage.. and I'd still probably go with the sky cover.

I also think of myself as a pretty defensive player though, I'll almost always go for the defensive options over the offensive ones if they are about equal (in this case I don't think they are even equal though). I just find killing people with spark combo to be so easy.. damage is never really the issue, I need the survival to deal with the hate that comes my way. I guess I generally follow the old adage: you can't deal damage if you're dead.

Totally agree with Adroit, u can never get enough p.def, and having stone barrier gives a great increase, u can get hp from refines, and there are few moments where u would need channel/extra m.def over p.def, mostly 1 vs 1 against arcanes....
So i think sky cover is overall better

Bre I'm sure Clergy didn't tell you to get cloud stir instead of sky cover. Your pdef is far from enough right now. Get a skycover and refine as high as you can. Also +10 your cube neck since you'll most likely be using that one for a long time.

nuuu Breannak, you got some things confused here. f:sweat

like Adroit said, you can never have enough pdef *points at own pwcalc* but you have to take the cost/benefit into account, too!

'cloud stir recast' is a sweet option for wizards, IF they have real endgame gear. like spell_caster, you are sadly not there yet.
my no to 'sky cover' is because of the cost efficency. that is why i recommended to replace your r8 ring with a 'sign of antiquity: chaos' instead. an unrefined 'sign of atiquity' (not even 20m) is def wise almost equivalent to a 'sky cover'+7 and you gain -chan and a bit mag attack on top!
and i advised against buying more garnet gems because your current shards are fine enough, and you should put your coins into refining instead.

jebus, my pm must have been full of typos. hope this cleared it up. f:kiss

pan gu loves cash shoppers as much as he loathes pure farmers. that's why he cursed me with the lowest luck-index possible. my weapon needed 21 recasts for those meh adds, and the r9 ring refine ate over 10k mirages before i capitulated and orbed it from 0 to +11. you won this time pan gu! b:sad

The rings aren't even worth using other than to upgrade them (doesn't mean refine ) imo.

Clergy has an excellent point. Only go for sky cover if refining above +7... I'd say unless you +10 it, then yeah, stick with sign of frost: chaos.
