Expel

There is an issue with the genie skill Expel (and I assume other things which are treated as "neutral blessings").

Expel can be used on allied players within or out of squad, or any other player in the world map that does not have neutral blessings screened. If your target has their filters set and you use Expel on them, it doesn't have any effect and that is fine.

The issue arises in TW or NW only. Normally I (and an appreciable portion of other players) have buff filters set so that our buffs can be cast on allied players who are outside of the squad. Selecting a hostile target (i.e. a TW or NW opponent) and casting almost any buff (like frostblade) will result in that buff affecting yourself. Selecting a hostile target and using the Expel genie skill will have no effect other than depleting genie stamina and energy. Under these circumstances, the only way to use Expel on yourself would be to select a non-player target (or yourself) first or change your filters prior to using Expel.

Regardless of filter selections, Expel can never be cast on a hostile target in TW or NW. Since other buffs revert to being cast on oneself under these circumstances regardless of filter selections, why don't neutral blessings like Expel work the same way?

I agree with you. I have Expel on my genie but I hardly ever use it because of this.
Though I'm not sure if this counts as a suggestion or not but I could consider it a game play issue.

Agreed. I find myself spamming Esc while hitting Expel in TW because of this, since it's faster than targeting myself. It's rather annoying.

I have a keyboard macro set to Esc, Esc, Esc, Esc, F8.

    Esc (cancel current channeling skill)
Esc (cancel next selected skill which will automatically start channeling)
    Esc Esc (deselect target)
    F8 (expel)

The problem with that is pressing Esc, Esc doesn't always deselect your target. Also, if you cast expel with yourself selected, you don't need to cancel the currently channeling skill and it will continue to channel and cast.

Is there a shortcut key to target yourself?

If you have nothing selected and you get hit, it kindly selects whatever just hit you automatically.

I agree this is annoying and should be changed as OP suggested. Cast on oneself when enemy target selected. Maybe I might use it in PvP if changed, atm only use in PV.

The quickest way to select yourself I find is to click on your avatar picture in the top left corner and then press the hotkey for expel. Hitting esc isnt as reliable for reasons described above. Selecting yourself this way wont get overriden if someone hits you in between selection and expulsion.

Edit: apart from when a barb uses raging slap on you. Lol

I would assume so as your target is locked on them and are unable to select anyone else most likely including yourself.

I think the only time I've had it used on me is when Throck used it to stop me killing the flag carrier in NW by the time I could deselect the flag was in.
