h264 is a container, .wmv is an output file. I use all those settings you mentioned, including 2 pass vbr, except I set my target a bit higher: 15 average, 10 low 20 high. Probably overkill. Audio I use the option below 320, because most of the music I pull off youtube isn't 320 to begin with. If I do get some high quality files, I'll use 320 though.
I'm no expert on Sony Vegas, but there is no question that, for certain of the preset options, no matter how you fiddle with every possible setting they let you modify, the output is dark. Period. .wmv render options have consistently given me the most true-color output of any options I've tried, and I've tried over 100 various combinations.
FRAPS saves the file as .avi but it is raw unprocessed footage, when, when processed, can be saved as pretty much anything you want when using a video editor. I've already realized some of Sony Vegas limitations, but to be honest, while I want some effects in my video, my videos are more content based than effects based. A few effects, a nice opening, close, smooth transitions, and the ability to add in comments that look nice, and I'll be good... for now.
As far as Adobe After Effects, at least half a dozen people have recommended it to me, and if I can find the time and initiative, I may try to learn the program. Though to be honest, Sony Vegas' later versions have some pretty advanced keymapping too. The difference between the two programs may not be as large as it once was. (I did upgrade from vegas 9 to vegas 12 about 2 months ago).
Cheers,

My apologies, I think I may have been misinterpreted or misworded my last post concerning h.264/mp4 versus .wmv. My point still is the same -- a file extension does not determine the color grading, therefore a .mp4 cannot be "darker" unless there is a setting for it.
Although to answer the question as to why this may happen to you, I think this link will be helpful http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/957225
The first sentence of the third paragraph; yes, common knowledge, friend.
When I mentioned After Effects, I wasn't asking to see an explosion in a tw video. By "keymapping", I think you mean the effect chromakey or the masking tool. While I agree that masking in Sony Vegas is very nice to have, it is also standard of most professional non-linear editing software. And in the version that I used, it was very time-consuming and unrewarding.
I used Sony Vegas back in 2009 for videos you've watched, it was version 8. So perhaps, it has matured. It is a decent enough program for making TW videos though, gets the job done. Although I will be firm, I do like Premiere over Vegas. It's more intuitive to me.0 -

By keymapping I mean... tying in the settings of an effect to a timeline to alter them how I please. Like for a glow effect. I'll make a keymap at 0 seconds, then alter the settings on the glow effect. Then I make a keymap at 1 second, alter some of the settings. go to second 5 and ramp up a couple settings and make a keymap. Second 7 I put all settings back to their default. When played the glow effect does all sorts of interesting things now by changing its settings smoothly between what I've set them to be at their keymaps. The more keymaps you use the more intricate your effects can be. Maybe you know this same concept under a different name?YOUTUBE CHANNEL:

Doesn't look like Vex had a full 80 there to me, though I may be wrong. In most cases there appeared to be a lot more Relic people visible than Vex people Especially in battles against smaller factions like Relic and Vex, having a couple of your best-geared people missing can make a world of difference (example, where was FlyRanger?).
Whether this battle or the last one (a Vex victory) was the norm remains to be seen. If we take this battle as an example of what to expect in the future, it would seem apparent that Relic has a sizeable DD advantage; enough of one that they can prevent Vex barbs, tankier though (I suspect) they are on average, from ever reaching Relic's base. Just looking through the people you targeted most often, I can count one hand the ones that got away repeatedly from you; the rest usually just dropped instantly, no purge necessary. That to me speaks volumes about a growing gear gap; from what I can tell Relic has grown enormously as of late (recruitment), but Vex has only somewhat improved.
Relic appears to have better geared clerics, archers, bms, wizards, assassins, and mystics. Venos and psychics I'm not sure about, Vex may have and edge there (but not enough of them were targeting you). Vex appears to have quite a few more well-geared seekers.
I still give Vex the barb advantage, but pending further information, Relic should win based on DD strength alone. If there are no enemy dd there to kill your barbs, then how tanky they are becomes less of an issue.
Your recent gear improvements reminds me of when I finished jades on the cleric. Suddenly I had quite a big advantage over almost everybody else, and I regularly did some pretty cool stuff in TW and NW. The gear gap between myself and others has been shrinking steadily, however, and I no longer have anywhere close to the survivability I once did... even though by all means I've become more skilled than ever before.
I'm seeing the same sort of thing in your videos. Nowadays if I were to go as frequently as you do to the front lines in a Tempest fight (assuming Tempest's old strength) I'd be purged twice, probably seal of gods, debuffed, hfed then most likely die... and I am probably tankier than you given my skillset. Basically, you get away with a lot of stuff because you don't have enough people targetting you, and that indirectly means that there is a gear gap between Relic and Vex; such an important dd as yourself (you are essentially the Merangelus of Relic) should be getting intense focus fire anytime you show your face near the front lines.
So far still too much unknown information to predict future outcomes. I think attendance will continue to play a big role in determining outcome, particularly now that we are well into the fall school semester.YOUTUBE CHANNEL:

Win or lose fights between Relic and Vex are fun it doesn't make any difference who's 'better' as long as we have fun in the TW. And fyi you see a lot more Relic ppl bc it's a Relic squad your watching ijs xD"With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. Well I was mostly going by the # of people I saw at the end; you'd assume that for that part, they'd have all their ppl in the tw trying to push you guys out of base. If somebody wants to take the time they could probably freeze the video and get an exact count; I was just estimating lol.YOUTUBE CHANNEL:

Or you could ask someone who was there on the Vex side. I highly doubt that anyone on Vex would want to miss a fight against us because we are evenly matched factions. And that is how it is we are pretty even the proof is in the pudding. When both us are in the fight at full str the TW can go anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours not much room for interpretation there."With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion"-Steven Weinberg0 -
Surprisingly we had a full 80 for the 2pm fight but were at least a squad short in the 8pm one. Dark I told you not to kill me in TW so why did you target me first at the start? b:cry
Relic has far superior DDs and have improved in coordination over the last few weeks. It was an odd TW for me in that I didn't die a single time in the first hour of the battle and then things just seemed to switch and we got overwhelmed at the end. Relic has some well geared barbs, possibly better than Vex now (skillwise not so sure) and as has been mentioned before with the DDs there to protect them will survive longer. I am sure Vex could have done better in this war however in my honest opinion Relic looks to have a good advantage in a straight 1v1.0 -
Haha Smash! I didn't kill you at the start so stuck to my word! Only at the end when catas were entering B gate you were standing in the way so I had to! b:sad
I think we still have a lot of room for improvement, but I'm happy with the progress we've made, the TWs with Vex are not only super fun but we're learning so much from them. I'm also really pleased with how recruiting is going.
Aeliah I think a few of your points/assumptions would alter if you had all the information. I.e. seekers. But thats details. In terms of growing gear gap, Vex has alot of DDs that naturally are easier for archers i.e. psys so looking from the angle of what I kill is probably the wrong perspective, I am just one of 80.
Tbh comparing me and you is also kinda comparing apples and oranges, you are a support cleric and would only really go to the front lines in carefully calculated prepared infrequent moves with IG etc. Whereas I am a DD so front line alot more, and would disagree that I wasn't being targeted enough, I'm pretty sure they had a veno who was stalking me with purge all TW! And there are multiple times when I take damage from Presents PG Anjumara etc simultaneously, I think I'm pretty good at kiting so don't appear to be getting as focussed.
In terms of the videos, I'm not attempting to do cool or impressive things to make better videos, I suppose you would do the odd risky move in TW to break from the heal res buff cycle, I just hit record and cut out all the rebuff fly back bits. If it's cool and impressive then that's all me. b:chuckleDarkSkiesx - Demon Archer

Ah I could do so much dmgs on front lines lol, but no, our faction doesn't have nearly enough healers... I'm a single healer for 10 people... there should be at least 2 per squad, 1 is just uggh. There was one memorable tw where I had a backup cleric in my squad and I made fay's life a pain. Fay has the unfortunate habit of going in deep into our formation then relying on a purify proc to get out; seal of gods and healing debuffs can quickly put a stop to that... but he isn't called Fay anymore is he >.>; what is his new name again? whatever lol.YOUTUBE CHANNEL:

Thanks Vex for two awesome fun fights. Grats on the win and comiserations on the loss. Hope everyone had fun. Will be posting the vids here when I upload them.
The afternoon fight was very close and I think the longest TW we've ever had. The evening fight was alot smoother on our part maintaining a clean crystal.
