Old player debating about returning

Hey guys, I'm debating about returning to this game. I'm wondering if this game still has an active community and whatnot? It's been a few years since I've played so would also like a few tips if at all possible.

Back in the day I played a Strength Barb, was wondering if it would be worth it for me to keep my barb and restat him (if need be) or if I should just start new on another character?

As this game is reaching the age of 5, most of the content and content updates are targeting lvl100+. Not really a bad thing since if you are <100 there are quite a lot of things to do (and you get a few new things too).

It's not that easy to find squads to do stuff before 100 and even harder to find squads for stuff <60 i.e. bh29/39/51/59. On the bright side you don't really need them as you can level pretty fast, both by regular playing and by powerleveling.

Balance-wise, same old same old: one who spends will have the edge. Actually, I think that ti's more balanced now: we can farm decent gear, shards and refines and class discrimination in pve activities has been massively reduced. There is also a quite fun and profitable pvp event.

But if you strive to be the top (without charging, no-life farming or merchandising with pretty advanced business plans) this is not a game for you.

If i was you i would not waste my time coming back. The game is very poorly run and i would not recommend anyone to play if they could avoid it.

^^ this. I won't be playing another mmo game by this company when I'm done.

As to a STR barb, those work if you're aiming for a DPS barb, but I feel like they're uncommon...but I'm not a barb so I'll let someone with more knowledge help you out there.

In terms of community, it depends on your definition of community. If you're talking active player base, there are enough that I would call it active on my server. I have no experience with Dreamweaver unfortunately. Could you add to that PotatoHead?

dreamweaver is doing fine. from BH79 and up there are enough runs to help, a lot of FC runs by full squads and enough big rooms that are looking for a barb.
People are yelling "game is dead" everywhere, but the game has been fine and making money for about 5 good years now.
Yeah, the gear progression scale is a lot longer now, but as a barb you can do well and contribute really fast even without top tier gear.
If you liked the game back then you're going to like it now too. Play, have fun, don't mind the haters. 12yr old kids yelling "game is dead" should be a filtered noise by now, still a lot of ppl pay attention to it.

I'd say that the cutting point is bh69, I see a bunch of them every day and a barb is still one of the most wanted classes there.

As Ursa said plenty of squads at 80+ and even a fair amount of lower big room WCs indicating that there are at least people that make alts. There are still lowbie new players judging from the random faction I joined with my cleric+sin and a few bh69 runs where leaders thought that a bunch 3k hp sins can tank pole b:chuckle

seeing newbs facing Pole for the first time is always funny. Especially the very confident ones that think because they tanked 59 like champs 69 is going to be a breeze. And to be honest Pyro it's not a warning either, lol.
Pole wipes haven't got old in 5 years....still funny to see most ppl don't know the pool it's actually a safe place.

yeah, when I see ppl don't understand why I want to kill the turtle I know i'm in for a nice ride for Pole and Nob
