Is r8 worth it?

Okay I know people say r8 isn't worth having but is it a bad idea to get it if u plan on eventually going r9.3? And are slowly over time getting g16 before going r9? Sorry if that sounds stupid it was the best way I could think of trying to explain my goals/questions

    So you plan to go r9.3 but before getting r9.3 you plan to get g16.
    in other words, your gear progression would be r8 -> g16 -> r9.1/2/3

    Now, the main problem, imo, is that everyone plans to go r9.3 eventually, some day, in the distant future. which, sure, it's cute, but doesn't help in this case.

    Ask yourself:
    • Do you plan to pay around 1000$?
    • Do you plan to farm 750 hours (=6 months with 4h/day) on psy?
    • Do you plan to farm 250 hours (=2 motns with 4h/day) on some farming toon (e.g. sin)?
    • Are you merching for at least 10m/day (=5 months) or do you have a business plan on how to do so?
    • Or any combination
    of the above?

    If yes and you are not going to merch, r8 has no cost to you.
    If no or you plan to mech, getting r8 is a waste of money.

    Now I'm going to argue that if you plan to use g16 as a step to your gear progression, you shouldn't get r8. r8 will cost you around 52m and in return you get a ring, weapon, pants and chest. with 52m you can buy a lunar sphere and g15 it then farm the badges to g16 it. or even buy a g16 sphere. and it will be infinitely better than r8, even if you dont use a ring. the pants and chest are quite meh, all attack and hardly eny defense so you are better off with tt90.

    Thanks for the quick reply with how dead the psy forums have been I'm surprised I even got a reply lol and yeah I was basically wondering what u said u just worded it better. So ur saying skip r8 and go straight from tt90 to lunar to g16? And no it's not just a dream to go r9 as soon as I hit 101 I'm gettig my r9 the 1,2,3 is where my time will be spent an ill have my g16 gears to put on my cleric and sell the sphere lol

    I used the r8 things I could get without the candies (weapon/pants/arms maybe?) to +5/6 with g15 before eventually going r9rr. It worked out well for me even if I was a bit squishy whenever I ripped aggro on accident. I would suggest doing it this way and NOT farming g16 if you plan on going r9rr sooner rather than later. It slows down your merching and wastes precious coin you could be using to put towards merching the r9 armors. even getting the r9 ring first is a game changer imo.

    Only reason I considered doing both is because of tw and fearing being rejected by decent tw Facs for having the r8 instead of g16. And thanks for the input guys!:D keep it coming :3

    If you are getting r9 as soon as you hit 101, don't bother with g16 unless you want it for some other toon (you mentioned cleric). Selling the sphere can be quite a bit of trouble, especially if it's highly refined (for example, I bought mine (nice stats, +11, 2x icebournes) for 350m and sold it for 270m). Perhaps g16 armor and r9 weapon first? Hitting 101 from 100 won't take long!

    If you're not going to be getting r9 within like a couple months, get a g16 set. Most major TW facs will not allow less than like full g16 Nirv +5 in at this point and won't consider anyone sitting in r8 gear unless they're a support class that's needed (and psys aren't a support class).

    It all comes down to r9 third cast, nirvana third cast or r8 second cast... those are all legitimate end game options, ALL of them... those that completely write off r8 recast are truly ignorant. Plain and simple... r8 recast allows for options that are not at all possible with r9 third cast or with nirvana third cast... that is a fact, and as such, how can anyone write r8r off entirely?

    well, I haven't done a complete analysis of r8r gear so i'll stay neutral. however, regarding the argument...

    Does OHT gear also have r9 second cast equivalent base stats? b:puzzled no, it does not. b:kiss and THEN tack on the other 3 optional stats on that, plus bonuses
