For newer players, how do you think...

I have been playing the game since 2008. And since then, my ways of upgrading gear and accumulating funds for my character have been pretty smooth. Right now, i have no problems with coins due to my catshop business. When i started the game, it was totally different. TT1-x/DQ was the hot stuff for farming, skill bars were smaller, genies, plat charms, BHs and hypers didnt exist, gold was 100k in AH or lower (on average), and much much more. When we started, i guess you could say the economy grew with us. Alot of effort was still needed to better yourself, but it was ok.

Now skip forward to 2013. For those who have started late 2012 or in 2013, how do you feel about the economy around you? As a player that does not cash shop alot, and as a player who has not yet established a consistent method of farming funds. How does it feel with the pressure of gearing up? Are what the old players and cash shoppers asking unbelievable when you look at the costs? How do you get by day to day? Im curious to see the gameplay in a different light, especially since it seems, to me, that the new players have a load on their backs to 'catch up' with the standards set by an older generation.

I started in early 2009 and getting coin was much, much easier than it is nowadays. A great source would be farming Nirvana, but the addition of NW and supply tokens kind of fully ruined that. Prices for TT items are somewhat decent but only from the more stronger of TT bosses.

For newer players the addition of Jolly Old Jones' dailies would make them a decent sum of coin, I even know of people that have multiple characters below 80 only to farm them. Mats from lower TT's don't really sell for that much, so not a lot of profit can be made there.
Farming mats/herbs is a decent method, yet time consuming.

I am also eager to see what a newer players opinion of methods of making coin and how they get by.

I started playing pwi in late 2008 and I never had a problem efficiently farming for coins, I have also debated on doing an up to date money making guide for these new lower levels to actually be able to save up enough coin to do what they need to do, I think most new players biggest problems are the pressure they feel to hit 100+ asap, what they fail to realize is they miss so many money making opportunities, farming lower level mats that people pay alot of money for, a few tips for lower lvls I would suggest 1-20 just do your quest even spend abit of time grinding mobs to get some of those lower lvl mats, after these levels you now have access to things we used to not have the jolly old Jones quest u get coins just for picking it up, you also pick up 7orders to do a quest that gives a really decent amount of coins at lvl 75+ u can make almost 1million coins everyday if you grab a dreamchaser pack you get full armor that's good all the way up to TT 70, other little things that I still do today is have a low lvl alt I farm purified juice on in about an hr I can farm 100-150 oils that's when it's not 2x and I sell those to shops for 7k or set up my own shop for about 13k so as a lvl 30 I farm over 1milion in an hr, so just between those 2hrs my low lvl can make almost 3m just quit buying FCC rooms and you will be surprised how much you still have at the end of the day I'm not a casher not even a hardcore player anymore i might play for a max of 10-15hrs a week i don't do nw or any other events and i easily make 20+ million a week what player below lvl 100 really needs more than that, if ppl would stop at lvl 80 and just farm Jones quest everyday for about a week or 2 that's enough coin to buy really decent gears at 90 so u can spend the next 10lvls getting rdy for your 100 gear, well that's all i can really think of atm im on my phone btw so sorry for broken wall of text if i think of a few more quick tips I'll post

    what new players ?

Not as many as the "old days" but they are still there.

    On topic:

I've noticed the push for, once they've hit 70, to FC. Especially if they know people in-game who supply them things. The more crafty ones find guides online and start their own merching of stones for CS, or low mats, or something.

I've seen new people cry about not being able to gain coin, as they sit around and wait for people to do things for them.
I've also seen new people get proactive and merch, or do Jolly Jones, and/or tackle each quest. These go-getters ask faction where a good place to farm is, where mats can be found, what websites to check out.

It's a toss-up, but some feel the pressure, others hug the pressure and tell it to take a nice break, they're fine without it.

Why the rage? It's a draining emotion.

I just started a month ago or so, and yeah things seem unattainable and expensive sometimes, but I mean they always do when you start a game that's been out for long...Everythings been growing for ages. Its not surprising, and with the help of guides it shouldn't be too bad to get the feel for making money. Or I may just be optimistic lol

I haven't quested from the start to 100 yet, but i have started new alts. Armed with the knowledge i have. I create an alt, lvling is super fast now. Culti is much much easier, shorter, and more rewarding. Quests are easier. I remember quests get 50 of an item, and it had a 10% chance to drop.

People get free daily charms, that reduces the cost, and can let people be very bold.

Dream chaser packs has allowed people to refine low lvl gear to +5 easily, and that gear is pretty good.

My archer is forever 32, but has +5 gear refined, and a +7 weapon. Kills monsters under lvl 50 in 2~5 shots.

Prices are falling once again for flyers and mounts. Previously a +11 mount was 7~20m, now you can get ugly mounts with +11 speed for 1m or less. Flyers that are 3.0 are being sold at 3~7m from last year's price of 9~15m.

In some ways pwi has made acquiring money easy for low lvls. Sure dq = worth 1 coin, but the substitute is far better now. Even before when dq had value i still did dragon quest and sold those bracers at 20~30m, they still sell.

You just need to read, find sites and ask around.

I don't think it's possible to get a great response here, since a lot of new players probably don't read the forums. The smartest ones will though. Or at least that is the way it was when I was new. I didn't know jack about the forums, and when I did discover them it was mostly established players dealing out valuable advice. Besides the "what class should I play?" threads, of course. Lot more people then there was now.

I cant remember when I started playing but it was before the tideborn expansion. Since then I've been on and off playing this game, starting many new characters and doing many new things. I can say without a doubt as a new player its difficult to make money and still get the best gear you can use. I used to by all gold gear I could when I became that level and that used up all of my funds, so after buying level 40ish gear I would have nothing left over. Then I started to get smart and only bought the weapons but even then that still left my funds rather low. Now that I've gotten into the higher levels the prices increased and without buying gold to sell for coin I would never of gotten the gear I have now. I could merchant to make the money but heres the problem, when I am able to play I don't want to merchant, I want to play. When I've grown bored of playing I either shut down the computer to give it a rest or I want to play a different game. Now If I stay logged on in merchant mode playing a different game either d/cs me from pwi or it does serious damage to my fps in the other game. Its difficult to stay merchant mode for a week at a time which is the amount of time you need to make a decent amount of money. If you could merchant while still playing (chose a place to set up a shop and have an npc sell them), or if you could log out while merchant I wouldn't have the issue I do now. Sure there is the auction house but really, aside for buying gear how many times do you visit the auction? Even if you do its not as easy to find the items you're looking for like it is going to a cashshop, not only that but the auction cant sell everything like the cashshop can.

Making money for new players is easy, but you will never have enough to buy fashion, a mount, or a good fly. Once you hit level 70 the prices jump up a bit more so now you don't even have enough to buy a full set of gear.

    I am agree with you.

I had never ever set catshop, but I want sometimes to buy gear for my character.

*Edit*2 weeks ago */Edit* I bought ☆Warsoul of Heaven for my Wizard, then at Saturday spent all coins to buy few level 9 gems ...
but yesterday I found, that someone sell ☆Sensoid Emptiness and I understood, that I must buy it for 85 level of my Wizard.

So I got 7 millions coins from drops of the mobs and bought it.

Now I know, that my Wizard will have -33% channeling bonus at 85 level (now he has -30% channeling only).

    Edit:
    As a side note:
at Friday my character had 13k DQ points ... now he has 48k DQ points ...
Also about "good fly" ... I have one, but I never bought it.

Can't comment on how I get by day to day, because I am not a new player. I don't think we'll get many responses on the day in the life of a new player, because they don't come to the forums. Just older players saying what they observed. Which makes the topic of your thread a difficult one to answer on the forums. That was my point. :P

Anyway, I have noticed a huge push to FC. When I rerolled servers, it was a ghost town. There wasn't anyone in the world map. Even though I have a great faction, for the most part if I want to BH with at level people, it's difficult to get an at level squad together. This puts a lot of pressure on people to FC. I think one only needs to look at BH100 and see all the people just now learning their class to see the end result of that pressure. They don't have the coin to gear up, where would they have gotten it? And a lot of them also don't have their skills leveled, Which is actually quite expensive to do if it was not done in a progressive manner. There is an enormous pressure to already be good once you hit 100, even though just through normal gameplay (which doing FC is the norm now, which people do keep up with their friends who are probably alts or were already high level) they hit it incredibly quickly. Heck when I was like level 10 or so, I whispered people asking if they knew anyone in a faction that accepted any level people when I was on HT. Most people completely ignored me even though I only asked people running around and doing things so I knew they were there. Others claimed they were going to help me, but just trolled me. I think at a lot of people don't believe that new players (or even new to the server) exist, and that it's just lazy alts leeching off of people. And treat everyone accordingly.

It's difficult being a new player. The ones that come to the forum are the ones ahead of the curve, usually. And aren't the typical new person. That's true of the forums in general though, many people don't go on the forums.

    1. Well, my forum start says August of 2010... Yet I began February of 2010... that is over 6 months playing before bothering with the forums... the jones blessings I was seeing was the reason for me to even bother doing so, if i remember correctly... o'malley's didnt even exist yet...

    2. I didnt know I should even have a genie till level 20...

    3. I didnt know about earthflame's use on zeal genies till about level 40 or 50...

    4. I didnt know about the venos "lure skill" till about 40 or 50 either, although I had heard the term used on numerous occasions by then... (granted, my main is and was a psy and not a veno)

I am one of those people that likes to believe that the things in game can actually be found in the game... and not that I have to visit numerous out-of-game websites to do anything in game...

I am pretty sure most new players that even do visit the forums, are not learning about such simple seemingly "known to everyone" type aspects of the game. When was the last time you even heard points 1 through 4 above made on the forums? Do new people know how to find that info?

If jolly jones quests do not come up as a pop-up quest the same way the hps/mps charm quest does (the ones for free till level 60), im not certain most new players are finding that even. If a new player likely does not know how the quest tracking or auto pathing works... will they even find the free hps/mps charms given it does pop-up? Hell, I have seen recently players that are 100 or higher that still didnt know how to inspect gears of another player b:surrender

I'd have to say the majority of actual new players have some horror stories to tell, compared to when we first came up in levels... It is a shame.
