Can anyone tell me if it is possible to see what a boss mob will hit with so I can decide which buff to use before attacking. Some are obvious when they attack but not all. Do their stats tell me if they will hit Phis Water Fire Earth if so how. I can see their weaknesses but there appears no connection to their strengths or attack type.

    Just use stone barrier 24/7

Otherwise read the element under the mob's name

But as an arcane you're really not going to get much more reduction from switching barriers. Just use stone

I use stone all the time on my wiz. But i use different skills depending on the mobs element.
Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost.

It is dependent from original defense of the Wizard.

    You must know, that:

    reduction%=resistance / ( ( 40 * attacker level ) + resistance - 25 )

or that when "resistance" much more than (40 * attacker level), then
reduction is near to 100% in any case (for high level wizards - they can play even without shields of any type if they have very high magic and physical resistance).

But if "resistance" is low, then to reduce damage Wizard need shield of proper type:
physical (stone barrier) or magical (elemental shield).

If someone has R9rrr, then he not need any shield and can't help low-level and low geared players in most cases with his advice.

Also if you kill mobs without being damaged by them, then you can use Glacial Embrace (Water shield) to increase water resistance and MP regeneration.

disregard the above advices (except Toliman).
Pff...stone barrier at lvl 59. Multiplying 0 with 2 will result in 0 anyway. At 59 you have pretty much 0 pdef (well, about 1k maybe? but u know what I mean).

If you're out in the world questing by yourself always use water shield + wellspring quaff.
If mobs get to close (which should NEVER happen) use FoW, WotP, blink and so on to get away. Learn how to kite mobs it will serve you well later in both PvE and PvP.
Get rings/ornaments with max possible mag stats, don't look for HP yet u need to kill stuff before it gets close to you. Saves mana, saves HP and MP pots and makes everything go that much faster.

If you're in a squad start with Stone barrier see how squad goes, switch to water again for MP regen then go all out on skills/dmg without worry.

Wizzies are not fast (dps) killers (compared to other classes), they are nukers. So learn to nuke and stay out of touch.
