PWI in comparison to......

Hi all, Ive been away for a month which is the longest break Ive taken from PWI in some years. I decided to jump on the bandwagon and play the newest PW game - which shall remain nameless to avoid breaching the TOS.
Please don't delete this thread - I am supporting PWI here.
After reaching the level cap on this new game in the month I've played it I have some observations to make, especially considering this new game is supposedly so new/modern/ good etc.
1 - PWI pvp is much better - just Nation Wars kills that other game.
2 - PWI classes are more varied
3 - PWI skill system is better and allows more options
4 - PWI mounts is better and PWI has flyers which the new game doesn't
5 - PWI crafting is better and more thorough
6 - PWI has many, many more quest options
7 - PWI economy SYSTEM with AH/personal shops is better/more varied (the economy itself has the same problems as the new game)
8 - PWI is open world and the new game is just instances tacked together - the open world has a much nicer feel to it.
Having said that though, the new game has a lot of people still playing and is much busier than PWI. Now I absolutely believe the new game is sub-par to PWI so just maybe PWI could learn a couple things -
For non-pvp'ers that one HUGE thing that keeps people questing in the new game is the rewards - for each quest I do, even though its basically the same as all MMO's being kill that, collect this, is that I get probably 5% of my level for each quest I do plus sufficient drops of hp pots/pve equipment/coins etc. Now this has been a complaint with PWI for some years - which, to some degree, they fixed for levels 60-80 with added quest xp rewards, but again, to get people 80+ to do quests, the rewards need to be greatly enhanced.
The second thing is the 5 v 5 pvp arena which is extremely popular and if PWI could see this, they might realize the importance/benefit of fixing their own Arena.
The new game does look newer. The cities/towns look like cities/towns and there are tons and tons of npc's etc. PWI cant really fix this - unless a PWI2 is on the horizon. But can keep it in mind for future expansions. Even looking at the little town hubs in Morai - they are a really simple design. But the look of the new game doesn't fix all its other areas of weakness.
The other HUGELY popular part of the new game is the player made content. Now say for instance we were talking about housing - which we aren't - but obviously housing requires much different mechanics due to the interaction with the game world around you. This player made content is just tacked on small programs, that other players can jump in and complete - its obviously a bit more complicated than that. But it seems to me that PWI could follow suit and develop a similar system - I mean there shouldn't be copyright issues so to speak because PWI owns both games. And players would therefore have, as with the other game, endless dungeons/etc to play around with, that the other players have created.
Anyway, cutting a long story short. PWI is years ahead of the new game in certain areas and, I believe with a couple changes and some new marketing, could get people back joining up.
I did suffer a bit of burnout there and a change is as good as a holiday ......that's all for now.

After reaching the level cap on this new game in the month
I don't even know what to say to this.0 -

You know, in instances there. They just throw the mobs/bosses over cliffs to kill them and collect the loot. There really isn't much you can say.
As many problems as pwi has its better.0 -

Yes, because people really need 900+ dex or 1000+ magic just for the lulz0 -

Yeah, like after taking 3years to get my first char to 101 in PWI, this new game is quite mindboggling. I was speaking to the leader of a 120 person guild yesterday and the person said they have about 5 active players because everyone else quit already or are all waiting for the next update. Also I didn't power level in any way. You could start today and reach level cap in a week if you played it differently.....0 -
I played it too.
If I hadn't played PWI first, I probably would be happier with the new game, but on all your points I pretty much agree completely.
I especially prefer the open world concept instead of the linked and shared instance world model. I also don't like the fact that the instance are also made into slices. On the one hand, I like the fact that there are # of player limit caps per slice, but it made it pretty damn hard to join up with a friend who started playing a little after me.
I don't like the graphics style at all; the skill animations are pretty, but on every other aspect I prefer PW 10000x more. It looks like -that other really big MMO where I hear pandas also might live >.>-, and I don't like that style at all. I know a few people who said the graphics were really great, but they never played PW before and also had level cap'd chars in that other MMO I just mentioned <.< so they were already partial to that style of graphic.
I also really don't like how easy the trend to level caping practically 4 weeks or sooner into a game's first official release is. It does create a rush and burnout that I think hurts new games greatly. I played for maybe 2-3 days for a few hours per day, and I got about 1/3 of the way to max level, which is way too fast in my opinion. I might have bothered to stay and max level maybe if I liked the graphics, but then I would have quit anyway so it's not worth the time. I don't know much about PWs first official release history, but based on my own experiences here I surmise that even if the first level cap was 60-70 very few people would have been able to accomplish that here in 4 weeks.
Either way, with its faults, PWI is still my favourite after all these years.0 -
Update: Given the new rules on discussing other PWE games, I'm gonna move this to the off-topic section. BTW, I agree. I do like PWI more than Neverwinter. I'm gonna say that again. Neverwinter. Neverwinter, Neverwinter, Neverwinter.
Ohhh Neverwinter!
Other PWE games are no longer voldemort in this section or fanatics.0 -
I keep thinking that with having done so much right, a Perfect World 2 rejiggered for the new generation might be a good option.....
Again though, its all about getting the end-game right.......0 -
RH (Graphics mainly) + FW (craft system mainly) are the only things I really like more then PWI.
I still need to get to the new areas in RaiderZ but, not a big fan of the combat system. Need to have a good connection for it.
lol originally posted this in a different thread. xDBorn to be an Assassin, raised as a Thief.

Like I said before, none of their other games grab my attention like PWI does. Only one non-PWE game comes close and I'm not sure I can name it but it recently opened its servers and I'm level 35 in it. Very solo friendly too.
But yeah, I think in order to get into their other games, you have to have never played PWI.0 -
I liked the look and feel of neverwinter at first, but in the end I got bored of it because of all the issues listed here. PWI really does have things to keep ya hooked into the game more than others, I think. :P And it's customization is still some of the best, even if the best armor is all the same.0

I enjoyed the Neverwinter: Diamond edition back in the day. But back then I wasn't a huge MMORPG gamer, so maybe I was just naive xD.[SIGPIC]Octavia is best pony![/SIGPIC]

my biggest isues with the other game:
1. grey. then brown. grey grey grey, mud brown
versus the beautiful etherblade or ragind tides? lol no brainer.
it felt like I was constantly in hell...
2. no open world
pwi makes me feel i'm in a real world. I can fly around, do stuff... there, especially with the shards, I never felt that I was in a worldyou only purge once #yopo0 -
I always thought that Battle of the Immortals is like 2.5D version of PWI0

[Shameless Plug] RaiderZ combat has got pretty much all PW's games beat. Bye bye point and click! b:bye [/Shameless Plug]
Only downside is you can't shoot someone in the face like in BL... b:surrender0
