Ranged weapon (bow, crossbow, slingshot) basic range is 20 meters, sage winged blessing increases that by 14 meters to 34 meters. This applies to take aim and all other skills that use 1 or more units of ammo, and to autoattack.

Sage/Demon pyrogram has a range of 30 meters. Range advantage: archer.

Sage Pyrogram has a channel time of 1.5 seconds. Range of 30.

Sage Take Aim has a max channel time of 3.0 seconds. Range of 34.

Assuming no channel gear and no lag, if both characters were coming directly at each other from max range the wizard would be able to attack the archer before Take Aim is fully charged.

Wizard walk speed base is 4.8m/sec. They can close that extra 4m gap in less than a second.

    To recap:

Sage Pyrogram's 1.5 channel time + .8~ Wiz walk time = 2.3 seconds vs 3.0 take aim chan time

This is an entirely different scenario if the wizard is not targeting the archer. Sage archer's have a range advantage on every class and few are able to hit one at max range. Aside from using certain range boosted sage/demon skills (Assassin's Shadow Teleport and Demon Mountain's Seize have a range of 35 for example).

A common archer tactic is to use Aim Low or Stunning Arrow as an opener to immobilize a target and then attack them from max range. This gives an archer time to attack their target or force them to use genie/apo to survive. This enables archers (not just sage, demon too) to get the jump on most targets that are otherwise preoccupied and not currently moving.

Testing what happens in game is a much better way to learn to combat a wizard as an archer. Paper PvP lends itself to idealistic situations and you can only discover when to use what with experience.

Try Ecatomb's Skill database if you are interested in information on any class and skills. It is a great source of knowledge.
