Could someone PLEASE reform this image for my guild icon?

I gave up with editing this thing, I'm pretty sure I followed every instruction. I even looked up ways to get an icon on countless forums and each have different tactics but it just doesn't work for me. I use Gimp if that says anything...Anyway I was wondering if anyone could form this image into the right format I need for my guild icon please? I really want an icon for my guild and this whole creating a guild icon is a lot more complicated for me than what I thought it should be. f:weep

Here's the image. It's a bit small but I wasn't really looking forward to cropping it and making it transparent, at this point i'll be happy with whatever I can get so I'm really to too picky.
