Spirit Charm is not activating

So my friend and I are in a duel with each other, he's a new player to this game, yada yada yada....

He told me, while he was trying to beat me up, that his spirit charm isn't ticking at the percentage it is at. He even took a screen cap to show that he has it equipped, and you can see that his mana is way below half way.

It's been a very long time since i dueled, so I could be wrong. But I was under the impression that charms don't work in duels. At least that's how I remember it.

I'm really too high of a level for him to just pick at my hp, but they've always worked for me before in duels.

This, charms have never worked in duels.

Charms dont tick while in duel. However they do tick if you have low hp/mp after a duel ends.
