Depth Perception Rage

Has anyone ever noticed that depth perception in this game really sucks? Particularly in PvP, and especially in aerial PvP.

I can't count how many times I've dropped an AoE on an aerial target, expecting it to hit another target that appears to be right next to it only to find that apparently the second target isn't in the AoE range, and this happens whether in PvP or PvE. Or worse still, you take a look at your target, judge the distance between yourselves, start a sutra combo, only to find my wizard has to fly slowly towards the target because it isn't in range, while buff time ticks down.

That said, does anyone have any possible counters for this sort of thing? I can't really think of a solution, even though this is hardly a new problem.

Yeah i always hated doing the mob quests where you either had to fly or swim. Would think a target was far enough away from its buddies to hit with out agro'ing the other one and all of a sudden i have 3 mobs pew pewing me. never did those quests again on other toons.

The perspective in the game doesn't seem particularly unrealistic to me. I think the issue is more a matter of perception.

On the ground you can take advantage of the ground textures and parallax to judge the distance between two distant objects. Whether you realize it or not, moving perpendicular to the line of sight between you and the distant objects allows your brain to compare the different points of view and develop a 3D perception.

In the air and underwater, it is difficult to get two substantially different points of view to compare because your character accelerates slowly while moving. Your most effective way of judging distance is going to by based on the size of the objects.

I think this is just a consequence of perception and not particular to this game.

Yes, I was referring to perception. The problem with judging distance by the size of the target is that target size relative to distance appears to be inconsistent, which is really annoying when you're trying to decide if everything's all close enough for an AoE in mid-air.
