WRAITH ATTACKS - please everyone answer

(EDIT - CHANGED 'SECRET LETTER' TO 'WRAITH OFFICERS ENVELOPE - THANKS MOSZ FOR CORRECTING ME - and I posted this in general discussion to try and actually get a response - now that its in suggestion box I assume its dead)

PLEASE READ AND POLL SO WE CAN CONVINCE THE DEVS TO IMPLEMENT THIS.

This weekends events are just another great reason (I believe) why the 'wraith attack (WA)' system needs an overhaul. I am working and Ive missed out on NW, Arch Assaults and the quiz event once again.

Some of you may not even know what a WA is - back in the beginning of PWI, WA's were quite common. When you complete 'wanted' quests (for rep) you can receive a 'wraith officers envelope' as a reward of 1% chance. I have done numerous 'wanted' quests for no such reward which is the equivalent of a 1/7000 mob chance of getting a 'wraith officers envelope'

You can then activate a WA using the wraith officers envelope and a bunch of wraiths of a certain level will attack one of PWI's towns for 15mins I think (could be 20) but those wraiths have a high drop rate. If you are ever lucky enough to get to a high level wraith attack in time with a char in the right level range you can make 200k in that attacks time period pretty easy.

CURRENT PROS
- Random Event - this means you are not stuck outside of a set time period. If a WA activates while you are online you can join in.
- Random Event2 - gives people something to actually do out in the PWI world besides daily and the normal dungeans.
- Great drops. Not game destroying and nothing like NW, but much better than normal grinding.
- CANT BE BOTTED (PWI - YOU SEE THIS) because of their random nature.

CURRENT CONS
- wraith officers envelope rewards are so rare that WA's arent really even part of the game anymore. I saw one the other day in HL which I couldnt attend but was the first one Ive seen this year.
- for lower levels the DQ nerf means they arent worth doing anymore.

HOW TO FIX WRAITH ATTACKS FOR THE BENEFIT OF THOSE WHO WANT THE BENEFIT.
1 - CHANGE THE % DROP FOR WRAITH OFFICER'S ENVELOPES - I would suggest 30% as a minimim reward from the 'wanted' quests therefore being the equivalent of a 1/300mobs chance approx.
1 - change the lower level drops and remove DQ altogether inserting something else worth while instead.

NEW PROS - all of the above plus now the wraith attacks could benefit everyone.
NEW CONS - none.

One of the main thoughts about WA's (if they were rewarded as I've suggested) that I have is this - If you are a rich merchant, CS'er or have plenty of money then you wont bother with WA's. This is important because you wouldnt want some R9 coming in and killing all the mobs leaving no one for anyone else. But those of us that could use the extra coin, or are bored with dailies could go grinding for wanted quests and activate WA's for the rewards. However even if some R9 was doing then, the random nature of the WA's would ensure everyone had a fair chance at benefitting.

ANYWAY PLEASE POLL AND ADD ANY OPINIONS YOU HAVE ON THIS. V4 AND THE DEVS OUT THERE - PLEASE IMPLEMENT THIS. THANKS ALL.

I think your talking about Legion Attacks.

I used to make 400k from those before they revalued DQ items. Now I make almost nothing but the DQ points do help me get HP charms so its still worth it for me.

The more Legion Attacks the more free HP charms the less I suck in NW the more money I get so I am in favor of increasing their frequency.

You know theres one on when red writing comes in world chat saying "wraiths are now attacking (insert town name here)...etc." So for this reason I call them 'wraith attacks"

I don't know about harshland, but on sanctuary they happen often enough. I always attend the ones around high dq mobs, since they give good points/money. But as always, so do all the op people who can stand around and one shot the whole place with auto attacks.

Even if there is a higher chance, you'll run into the same issue of higher geared people ruining it for you. I have my specific 4 mobs i kill in a cycle with 1~3 wasted seconds. Because i kill in that cycle, people don't bother me, because my spot appears empty.

As for changes, it is a fun attack, but there are other far harder drops to acquire as well, that take eons to get.

Not gonna say its a bad idea, although I think they happen often enough. Funny thing is I read this while waiting for people to get into an instance and one started up. Finished the instance, afk'd, came back and decided to post and there was another one starting. We seem to have more farmers on Sanctuary.

I don't believe instance mobs (BH mobs) can drop the envelopes but seeing as thats all 90% of the population does maybe instead of increasing the drop rate on all mobs maybe just allow them to drop from BH, TT, Lunar mobs at their same low rate.

no one answers your poll for these reasons:

this is obviously a suggestion in general discussion i.e you posted to wrong subforum

you show complete disknowledge on wraith and legion attacks

secret letters only activate the 1k streams and DWP hour long legion attacks, which are level 150 monsters, unlike wraith attacks which are level based on the area they are attacking and are "randomly" activated serverside

Either way, even though she doesn't know what she's talking about, I'd be up for seeing these drop a little more often. Maybe not even 2%, but not in the .xx% either. Perhaps 1% would be good enough. That means roughly 1 out of every 100 mobs could drop it. b:victory

These were daily occurances during the peak of 'questing', IE, in 2009 and early 2010, mostly before Goons glitch and Buying/selling FCC exp room became common. Why? Because back then, a lot of people did quests, and killed thousands, hundreds of thousands, or millions of mobs in a day. Now, all of the questing areas are deserted, so... These have almost no chance of dropping.

I have only ever done a few of these, one recently happened while I was in the area, and it happened in a high level area. The mobs dropped DQ items with coin values that were larger than 1 coin, and the good bit of DQ I got from this far outweighed my repair costs. I think I made 2 mil in DQ items.

Granted, I had the area mostly to myself, only one other person there and they were vastly out-leveled by the mobs.

Best one I ever saw was at 1k Streams. My machine lagged so bad, client crashed every time I logged in.
    101 Sage Sin*/Archer
    100 Demon BM*/Barb
    96 Demon Cleric/Sage Seeker
    95 Demon Wiz/
    94 Sage Veno
    85 Psy/80 Mystic
And a handful of other alts, all 79 and under.

Lol sounds like a good time. I think that I just attended 1 up by snowy Friday night. Pretty sure that's what it was. Never saw those mobs before, and made a nice chunk of change from it. My DQ points haven't shown up yet, but I know I had over a stack of Element Spirit. So yeah, I'd like to see the drop rate improve slightly. I also agree that FC practically ruined questing. b:shockedb:bye

Nah your talking about Legion Attacks, those are the ones started by Secret Letters. I only wrote "I think" to be polite, figured it would be easier on your feelings than just saying your wrong.

Secret Letters start Legion Attacks on either 1k or DW. LAs are much better drops then a wraith attack.

I still gotta say, I would like to see it a little more often. Perhaps PWI could take out the letters and just implement an event like this, but on a slightly larger scale, and run it a couple times per week (other than Assault on Arch). Times have changed, and the economy has changed. In my opinion, the game needs to evolve with these things. Everything is more expensive than when the game started out, and with the low level DQ drops being nerfed, even I've had a hard time of late making coin. Too bad the Head Hunter keeps giving me Doritos b:chuckle

I disagree. Once you start having a regular event, then people take advantage and are ready with their good chars to get the most benefit. Plus you lose the random nature of the wraith attack, and the process of it being player generated.

Increasing 'wanted' rewards as suggested is perfect and I support this.

Im level 85 right and broke. How do I make coin? Farm, merchant, grind, quest or CS but unless I get super awesome at merchanting I wont get r9 without injecting real money. Nothing will change that.

So I now need money just for the basic stuff - skills, upgraded gears, a charm. I think a change as suggested would be a great idea to help people who need some money, to make some money - without taking forever like farming and grinding.

    Talk for yourself hehe

I am getting near to my lovely estimated costs of my G16 shizzle hehe and then with that ill be better at NW :3

Oh and got near 50% rep needed for the R9 brizzle :3 so yeah.

I know it is not much but , being a casual player that's the most i can do :3

Unless SOW costs Plummets again. If that, then ill be baffled again :3

Oh and all that is with the merchant way . Selling the **** out of everything hehe, so yeah, no injecting RL moniez on a game.
