Need Help with Cragglord Quest

I'm having the problem where it won't let me dig the pole... b:cry Any solutions?

    If you die during the quest you have to start the quest over. Check your quest log, you should have to talk to the first guy again, then you should get credit for having the sword in your inventory already.
