Confused about Transferring Refinements

I've got a R8 +7 bow, and a WS 2 sock +8 helm that I would like to xfer the refines to NV. I'm thinking 3rd cast. I'm not sure how many it would take, or if I can make the 3rd cast item and THEN transfer the refines. I'm fairly sure it would cost more to redo the refines then xfer them. Sadly the helm is bound to my barb or I would simply sell it.
