Make reading the rules mandatory

Im seeing a load of duplicate threads, and necro's by people who have never posted before. I think, the first time you log onto the forums, you should be directed to the rules post, or a version of it, that you have to agree to before posting. Will probably be ignored, just like most "i agree" things, but some might pay attention, and might result in easier jobs for the new moderators,

Sounds like a plan. Going to pass this one along right now.

Sound a great idea, but doesn't mean people will read it.

Very true but if they press a button saying "I agree to abide by the rules" before posting, it's hard to say "um what rules? I never seen no rules" and get away with it.

Wouldn't stop the people that are doing these types of things but I like the spirit of it.

Maybe make it a pain in the butt process? Have them have to hit agree to every rule!b:pleased

Except the necro rule, the rest is pretty much as all forums, be polite, no racist, religion, politic talk and etc... so many people click agree without read.

Yes a bunch of people necro knowing it's against the rules, but some are just new players that can't start new threads.

I think something should be done for the new players, cause they can't start threads, but they can't post on a necro, so what choice they have when nothing posted in the last 30 days is about what they need help?

Other forums use auto archiving to keep zombies in their grave. I've mentioned it so we shall see.

Why cant they start new threads? if the only thread on the topic is necro age, they should be able to start a new thread.

Last night, Harshlands people started about 12 threads on the same topic, almost all of them of the forum level of "n00b" with a post count of less then 20 previous posts, if any at all, and they showed no respect. force these guys to read rules before posting!

Cause of the spam issue we got they changed so when people register on the forum they get a message saying they can't start new thread during their period of probation.

We've already started splitting those off into their own threads now, unless it's a simple question that can be answered by us.

Never saw that before, maybe replace that with them accepting the understanding of the rules, and also limit new threads to maybe 2-3 for awhile

It's for people that register on the forum for the first I think they made it a few months ago to fight the spam.

I wanted to post from a alt and saw that message a while ago. XD

I think MODs and GMs will check new posted threads before they allow it display in the forum or in the suggestion section. Because they are the ones who really knows the rules and TOS of this site. Nobody wants to read lengthy terms and conditions. Just tell people that their threads is subject for approval within days or something.

It's hard to filter keywords and spams over the net. Maybe developers can write scripts that filters keywords before posting the thread in the forum.

How about one of those "Catcha" things, where you have to fill in the answer. And instead of a random image with words, put the answer of the catcha within the rules, like say rule 8/15 is the answer. That way people will HAVE to read the rules to get the answer, and still able to post as newbie? I don't know, just a thought.

I think "Captcha" will do and combine with keyword filtering before posting. These keywords will look up on the rules list or restricted words list. But of course it takes a lot of code to filter and analize the thread content assuming there is no human interventions before it will be posted.

i think putting a timer lock on the 'I agree' button is a good idea. Like say, the rules window comes up, and then a countdown will appear next to the 'I agree' button, during the countdown, you cant click the I agree, so you're going to be forced to read the rules. And then when the timer reaches zero, then you will be able to click it.

I'm not gonna read it if there's a timer on it to be honest. It's like everything else, if it has a timer, I'm just going to open a new page/tab and do other stuff while time goes by.

That will fail dude, as what MikoTenshi said... Nobody likes to read lengthy TOS or rules. That's why we need human intervention or a sophisticated automated scripts to check and approve the thread before posting...
