Ping Problem

I've had this problem before last week, and it went away for a while, but now I'm having this problem again, and it's much worse that it was last week! What I don't understand is, why is the ping on my computer 38,552 ms?! (I always play on Heaven's Tear) Normally, it's 600 ms or less! Here's screenshots to prove it:

nf1wr6.png

What should I do to fix this? Or is it even on my end? The webpages in my browsers load just fine, it's just PWI that I'm having the problem with...

Oh, and both of those screenshots of those pings were taken in the same area, but at different times. The bottom one was taken last night, and the top one was taken this morning. I was at the Spire of Awakening when I took those...

1).Restart your PC and network hardware.
    2).Check your bandwidth @ http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
3).Post a copy of your traceroute to PWI servers
4).Make sure ports 29000-30000 are open.
5).Check to make sure there are not a lot of other programs and processes running in the background as well. You can just try disabling other running programs.
    6).Run As Admin
7).The player traffic could be causing issues for you.
Does this happen in a specific area in the game or does it not matter where?

I see. I'll try those things you mentioned. As for the areas this happens in, it's random. I mean, my normal (average) ping is around 250 to 400, and sometimes it'll go up to 600, but it doesn't normally go higher than that. Even in West Archosaur, it usually stays around 250. I've even seen it at 128 in West Archosaur before. When those screenshots of my ping were taken (last night and today), they were in the same area: the Spire of Awakening.

As for that link to DarthPanda's thread, I didn't know about that. It could be that my ISP is doing maintenance, or it really could be the weather. (It's been really rainy here.) I have Time Warner Cable in Kentucky for internet, so I don't know when they usually do their maintenance. :/

I don't know how to use that site...(I've never used it before...) Where are the servers located? (Especially Heaven's Tear) Or do I need to put down where I live?

HT is a West coast server, as noted in the images that you provided in your first post.

    Also, this....
Common reasons that you can't connect to the servers, experience disconnects, or just have lag in general...

    1. You don't have the client set to run as administrator.
    2. You don't have the game directory set as an exception in your security softwares.
    3. Your network adapter driver is out of date and needs to be refreshed.
    4. Your local area network settings are improperly configured.
    5. You have more than one firewall and don't realize it.
    6. Your firewall settings are too strict. (Very common with ZoneAlarm and Commodo firewall.)
    7. Your router is configured improperly.
    8. you have a bad network cable.
    9. You're using a wireless network connection. (Which leads to another huge list.)
    10. You have a lot of traffic on your local network that is bogging your router/modem down.
    11. There's a fault in your router.
    12. There's a fault in your modem.
13, You have a bad phone cord plugged into your modem.
    14. There's an issue with your house wiring.
    15. There's an issue with your outside wiring.
    16. A squirrel chewed on your phone line at the pole and it's raining. (I've had this happen personally.)
    17. A switch/router at the CO for your ISP is having an issue.
    18. One of the many hubs between you and PWI is having an issue. (most common)
    19. There is heavy sunspot activity. (has happened within the past two years)
    20. There's a regional router outage. (Has happened several times, most recently just a couple of months ago.)

That's just a few. The more details you give, the better I can narrow it down and tell you what the issue is.

Also, post a copy of a traceroute to the server.

Also, note that when your lag was spiking really bad, your FPS dropped to 2.
FPS and lag are two different things that are not directly connected in most cases. However, if something on your system is tying up the CPU enough to drop your FPS down to 2, it's also likely bottle-necking the data port/traffic on your system and is causing lag locally on your PC.
(Which is yet another reason to post the data requested.)
Take the time to look for your answer before you post like an idiot.

There are two kinds of people in this world...
    There are those who panic,
    And then there is us.

Ok, thanks. But how do I use that website that Sizzer posted to get the traceroute? Or do I get the traceroute another way?

As for that list, some of those are possible (numbers 9, 16, 17, 18, and 19).

I tried giving all the details I could. :/ The ping is fine now...but it might get like it did earlier today some other time...

As for Sizzer, I've restarted my PC and network hardware, but I don't know how to use that website or find the traceroute. (I'm getting the feeling that you don't find the traceroute on that website; sorry, I'm a little slow lol.) What do you mean by ports 29000-30000? As for the programs running in the background, I only have about 54 processes going on...I have 3gb of ram, so I know that's fine. I always run as Admin. At the time I was having that problem, there were literally no other players in the area. At all. Unless you're meaning the entire game itself.

    EDIT: I just clicked on the traceroute link in your post, Allisandre. Sorry, I didn't see that before. ^^;

    What do you mean by ports 29000-30000? ;

It is different depending on your internet provider. You will have to search on their website or contact them to check. You can try using the Task Manager built into Windows to review what processes and services are running on your computer that might be causing problems or using too many resources.Or you can use Process Explorer, which you can download from Microsoft: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653 You may need a program like Winzip or WinRAR to extract the file. Put the executable file (ends in .exe) in a folder location where you can find it easily, like your Desktop or Documents. Then just start it up.

Please note that the information that it shows is of a technical nature, and shutting down (or kill process) processes that you don't really know what it does can mess up or crash your system.

This tool is best for seeing what is running, and you can research the processes that you see online in a search engine to see what can or can't be shut down. You can also find out what could be responsible for any software conflicts, or if something is using too many resources on your system.
