the thing is that you take more damage than your pet.
so, either you have charm and kill it anyway, or let pet take half hp of monter.
In other option, if you'r pet has roar, use it everytime you atack a monster

This is a common problem with the pure mag build. You're stealing aggro from your pet because you're hitting too hard. b:chuckle

Does your pet have the Bash skill (not an elemental one, just plain "Bash")? You could invest in a pet with Bash, it does pretty good aggro control. Another pet skill you can invest in is Roar. Roar has a chance to get aggro back onto your pet and off of you. However, it does reset aggro to around 0 and should be used with caution, because if you just keep on spamming spells you're just going to get aggro back real quick.

Note: Roar does not GAIN aggro. It resets any aggro your pet has back to zero and is a good way to kill yourself if used poorly. Don't use it UNTIL the mob leaves your pet and comes after you.

If neither of the above work, you may need to let your pet smack the mob 3-4 times before you ever cast your first spell. Let the pet get some aggro.

If THAT doesn't work, you either need to invest in a better pet that deals more damage to keep the mobs off you, or just letting your pet tank and resort to healing it instead of skill spamming.

Also, don't forget that the skills on your pet need to be leveled as the pet does. (I missed that one till I was in my 60's, but that was before you could hit level 60 in 3 days doing quests.)

Things to look at: what skill(s) does the pet have, what level(s) are they, what is the default skill. Fast cooldown damaging skills (bash, and the so-called elemental bashes like icicle) that are up to level are best for keeping aggro. Also, is the pet up to your level? It's practically impossible for a pet significantly under your level to hold aggro unless you do nothing but spam heal it.

Jeremied pretty much summed up your issue. Try getting a pet that comes with bash, or has high enough damage to keep up with you. You can try upgrading your pet's combat skills, get Roar on your pet, or you can change how you DD.

Slowing down your spell casting helps tons with this, or just launch Ironwood and one Venomous until it's dead. If all else fails and the mob is Physical, jumping into fox form can help you take less damage.
