So what have I missed class wise over the past 2 years?

OK, due to IRL stuff and the guild dissolving I took a 2-3 year hiatus from PWI. Getting back into it now since the gf wanted to play.
So my main question is, as a lvl 94 Demon Archer, what have I missed that is relevant class wise? Did the new expansions add anything good for us?

That thread is only like 3 below this one.
Also, Nirvana is dead so aps isn't much of a focus anymore.Ring Engraving/Amulet Carving Guide - pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1174451

OK, thanks, didn't know that it was called Dynasty, so that covers that expansion.
Did the Raging Tides addition change anything? It was the one that was coming up as I was leaving.0 -

Uhh... you mean like the Assassin and Psychic classes?
There was an Earthguard expansion (Mystic and Seeker classes) as well as a Morai expansion, if the RT stuff was your most recent experience.0 -
Just a bunch of new classes/quests/instances... nothing really. b:surrender0

if you left before raging tides, then you missed the complete decline of this game.
good for you![SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
I left in early 2010, RT had been out about 2 months or so, so I didn't get time to learn much about it, when the last year of college hit like a ton of bricks b:shocked
Plus the faction was falling apart, so that just gave the motivation to put it down for a while.
So no horrible nerfs to the class then with the new races, or redundant races that make us irrelevant then? As long as I can still find squads that let me turn things into pin cushions, while I stay well away with my shots and crits still counting for somthing, then I'm happy archer b:pleased0 -
There were skill changes (finally) in the most recent expansion.
I'd say read up on the new classes on the PWI wiki.
You also missed the craze of perma-spark characters. Well, they still exist, but Nirvana has become outdated.0 -
Oh hey, I remember you. We did stuff or pked together or something... my memory is fuzzy, but I remember the name anyway. Welcome back, I suppose.0

Well lets see:
Sins came out. They were an aps class that could use stealth, disappearing so they could be seen. They'd disappear, reappear by stunning you and you'd be dead. The also had the highest attack output in the game (dps) and could be 5 aps permasparked. Aps finally caught on and everyone became aps, and everyone sharded DoTs.
Then R9 came out, everyone was a 1 shot to anything with an R9 weapon. Some people changed their shards.
People discovered defense levels.
Nirvana was the main farming instance, although not always the most profitable. It was easy enough, spammable, and people could find squads for it unlike TT or Lunar.
Around this time they also added 9 Trials. A faction instance meant for 30+ people where you could farm rank 8 recast gear. It was never very popular, but decent enough.
Mystics and seekers came out. Mystics are kind of a mix between veno and cleric, with a pvp knockback and plants that can cause damage and status effects. Seekers are a sword only "battle mage" class. Medium high damage, medium high defenses, caster class with mixed magic and physical damage. Their specialty is high level attack and defense levels. Not much PvE content released.
Goons glitch was popularized. You could glitch the 3rd boss to spawn between 20-150 FCC dragoons and aoe them for high amounts of experience ever minute and a half. Many people rushed characters to 100, or made their mains level 105. No one was punished and the glitch wasn't removed, but they did nerf the exp gained by killing any goon in FCC.
Morai came out, and new map for 95+ characters with PvE only weapons that are nearly as effective as R9 but for about 2% of the price. With Morai came a gambit of new skills for every class. Good news, Archers probably benefited the most from it and sins the least. Archers got a stealth of their own, sideways leaps for kiting, an aoe that lowers the effects of charms, pots, and heals, and a frontal aoe silence. Sins got a frontal poison DoT. Clerics got a "metal mage mode" that increases their damage ouput but doesn't allow them to heal and skills that absorb heals before their opponents recieve them. BMs got a tele freeze and "Reel In" that has a chance to pull an opponent towards you, as well as an aoe weapon disarm and a moving aoe skill. Venos can change players into animals for a few seconds (seal with a graphics change). Wizards got "reversion" techniques that reverts themselves to other places, reverts opponents backwards, or reverts an opponets hp to what it was a second ago...
Then R9t2 and R9t3 (tier 2 and tier 3) and Nirvana t3 were released. R9t2 was ridiculously expansive and pretty much no one bothered. G16 vana was a nice upgrade though.
Then a couple weeks ago they introduced nation wars. NWs are twice a week for 2 hours and about 75 times more effecient than farming Nirvana. The goal was to allow players a way to farm r9t2, but you can also get other mats or just sell the Supply Tokens given to you as a reward. Effecitively, if you do both NW you accomplish about 300 hours of Nirvana farming in 4 hours. So many players only play those 4 hours each week now. No one bothers to do 9 Trials anymore since getting the numbers for it is more difficult and its no longer cost efficient. No one bothers Nirvanaing anymore because the price of mats have dropped. The same is true of TT mats, which are now easier to just chip instead. People don't want to form TT or Lunar squads, too. Warsongs, Lunar, and TT are all on the outs, too.
Think... that covers most of itSeven 100+ characters leveled the hard way. Free to play. Mystic, Psychic, and Wizard left to level. b:victory0 -
Thanks for the info guys. b:thanks
I'll be interesting to see all the new stuff then. My fiance is new to the game and leveling a BM now, while I try and relearn my toon while absorbing all of the new things b:beatup
And good to see you're still around Zanryu0
