Crashing

Hi PWI,
My friend has just tried to install PWI for the first time, but everytime he starts it up it crashes and comes up with an error message - but apparently the error message doesn't say anything other than 'error'.
Any quick suggestions on things that might be causing this?
Thanks!

Hello there. I'll try to give you some leads until someone more knowledgeable on the subject takes the relay.
Try to verify files? Use the button 'Verify' on the patcher. I did hear about a missing .dll problem upon installation.
Maybe it's a Windows 8 incompatibility?
This is all I can think about right now. Good luck!Maintenance time. Please choose a line:
- When is it over? OMG I need my fix!! *super spazzing*
- Fix the damn bugs, dammit! I'm so angry! I'll quit!!
- New codes out there? I like free stuff~ *wink*
- When will we get new content? QQ
- Will we get sales? I got a ton of gold to spend.
- I'm bored, I'll create a useless thread to annoy Opkorock.

Here are some things that might help you...

Also, don't forget to run the patcher as administrator and exclude it from your antivirus software.
Lastly, you will want to install the DirectX 9.0c dll's, Microsoft C++ runtime package, and make sure your .NET is up-to-date as well.
Add the game folder and/or game file to the exceptions list in your firewall or antivirus software.
Example: C:\Perfect World Entertainment\Perfect World Entertainment
You also might need to temporarily disable your antivirus, MS Security Essentials or Windows Firewall long enough to download, install, patch and login to get into the game, and then turn it back on. Sometimes disabling may not help and you will need to add an exception for the game folder.
It might be Windows, Windows Firewall, Admin (such as running the game as Administrator), UAC, network, or antivirus settings that you will need to change so that they aren't blocking or throttling the game.
You can also try changing your proxy settings for Internet Explorer 8, to have them turned off here: Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings > and then untick all of the proxy settings.
If you still need additional help, please Search Knowledge Base for the terms mentioned above. Let us know what you tried and what errors you got when you reply to us.
