Useless Wiz Skills

Adroit - Lost City

Was just curious what people thought were the most useless skills we have, basically just what skills you wouldn't really miss if they deleted from the game entirely.

The only ones I really can't find a use for are..

1) Glacial embrace (at least for endgame.. 10 mana regen = lol)
2) Manifest Virtue (less of a boost than single spark, cmon..)

Other than that, I think every other skill serves some purpose (some more important than others..) and I suppose even these two could have some really rare pve uses (like vs water bosses use glacial or manifest before opening DB.. I dunno). I don't really care about pve much though, so these would be my choices :P Anyone else?

you think the water shield is useless but not the fire one? O.o

Against wiz sometimes I might use fire shield. I don't have SoF on genie.

Fire shield is useful when 1v1ing another wizard who likes to spam a spark combo

Water shield is perfect for those moments that you don't actually need a shield b:chuckle
10 mana/sec regen is better than no extra mana regen

Because of that, it's actually one of my most used skills in game b:laugh

OFT, every cast of water shield = ~2000-2500 extra mp gained in combat. It's like for every half-hour of nuking, someone comes along and says, "here's a free herb Yuanxiao. Have fun!".

How awesome is that?

IMO wizards actually don't have any useless skills. Crown of flames could qualify, but since it's getting buffed, it might even be used more after the expansion.

haha yeah fire shield is nice for 1v1ing other wizzies that use spark. And yeah, glacial embrace basically saves a single herb yuanxiao every 30-45 mins.. assuming you don't have a chi skill on genie which lets you regen enough mana with triple spark to DD w/o pots.. and that you are actually going to be constantly DDing something for 30+ mins.. and that you never get hit. I never hit any of these criteria (much less all 3 at the same time), so.. yeah :P

Essentially the same as before atm, still wearing my TT90 +5 gears, +10 first cast nv wep.. sitting at ~5.1k hp unbuffed I did get to borrow +7 cube neck and voidlands, but those obviously aren't mine. I've been merching a bit, been doing reasonably well.. got enough saved up to refine a set of gear (probably +8/+9 for now).. still need the actual gear + shards though :P

I want 3rd r9, but more than likely I'll go for 3rd nv because of the cost difference (and ability to use on other chars). The 3rd r9 wep will be a long term goal though, and really everything just depends on how merching goes. Realistically I'll probably get a piece at a time and then +8/+9 with immac hp/pdef shards, after I have all my gear I'd either +10 or start working on shards (probably g11 for 3rd nv gear, if I did somehow manage to get 3rd r9.. I wouldn't put anything but jades in). None of this is really set in stone yet though, I'm just trying to get some coin and I'll really have to weigh my options when I've saved enough to actually start getting a few pieces. I hate to plan too much for this too far in the future, never know what kind of sales or changes to the game might affect my choices later on :P

And ofcourse it was awesome in the days of BH59, when I was tanking quinzi (was that her name? The water boss).

Hell I even once tanked a worldboss (machinoslit) with my glacial embrace. Ofcourse this was when it took an entire faction to bring down a single world boss, and I needed 3 veno's feeding me sparks to hold aggro (perma spark wizzy b:victory) (it didn't hurt that the archer that stole a few times got 1shot, resetting his aggro), but I was damn proud of myself

I'll keep one consistent color for this.

I actually haven't found a PVE use for Distance Shrink (if you know of one, let me know). Also, Glacial Embrace can be used to tank BHD (Blackhole Devourer) and several other water-tossing bosses.

This is overal skills, not PvE skills.
And even in PvE you still need to kite sometimes if you get swarmed by a mistake (or while you are soloing stuf like BHD)

Not to mention that low level wizzys need blink for kiting, as they don't have the dmg power to 2 shot every mob they see

Well then, for PVP, Glacial would be right useless. In PVE, it's pretty useful (or at least I've found usefulness.)

Non-Sage/Demon Emberstorm.

I have neither skills, but Demon sure sounds like a nice way to stop anyone or anything that's insisting on a threesome including you and a sharp blade, and even Sage should deal decent damage if you're desperate, but from levels 1-10, all Emberstorm does is take your HP and **** off your target.

Fissile - Archosaur

Even sage emberstorm is still ****. Demon is ok for the stun chance (don't charge it at all).

No wiz has enough HP for this skill to make sense. Even if you have 20,000hp it'll do less damage than hailstorm at a cost of more than half your health AND you have to run into the midst of your opponents to use it.

I use all my wiz skills for something or other, except emberstorm. (I have sage emberstorm only because someone gave me the book free.)

full ha tank mage with 25k hp could run in with ice prison up charge emberstorm>genie spark whoever they wanted to make sure was dead. then open db afterwards

To be fair, a lot of wizzy skills are quite situational, and Emberstorm is simply so far into this range that very few, if any, ever get into a situation that actually calls for Emberstorm. There's always a better alternative, and if there isn't, you're pretty much dead anyway.

I'd like to see what the people in charge of creating wizzy skills were thinking when they made this one. Or smoking.

The only minor uses I've found for emberstorm are for knocking stuff out of stealth (if you get lucky and you know they are next to something you can target) and for the almost instant 20 chi. Albeit both are very situational, but it's been useful a few times in the past for me so I wouldn't say that it was totally useless. I should probably start using it more when I'm building chi against some phys char.. if I just fow'd and they are standing basically on top of me.. might be worthwhile for a quick emberstorm to get 20 chi. Dunno, will have to try in game :P

I've used emberstorm in 1v1s just for kicks... was 1v1-ing another wiz a while back with self buffs using +10 ish r8 1st/2nd cast nv gears so we both had around 9k ish hp, forgot the exact defenses we had... but I 1shot the other mage from full hp using a full-charged, close to full hp sage ember crit 17k (I remember saying that it wouldn't have killed him if not for the crit). I think I sparked him and probably had him undined, but I remember being surprised by the damage.
