Wizards and gems on gear

Umm Should I socket strictly Hp gems or do I also add some Phy Def ones ?

    There's really not a simple answer to this question - a lot of it depends on what you like to do and what your gear set is. You can shard hp if you have really good pdef orns and pdef cape/ring/helm/top. I'm strictly cits but I have a lot of + def adds on my gear. I do a lot of magic mob grinding so HP works better for me vs garns. If you do pk/pvp often I'd say mix em up - but if you want your pdef to be effective you need a fair amount of hp first.

    The socket calculator in my sig can do a numerical comparison if you type in your stats and will give you the optimal mix. Be sure to include the bonus pdef you get from stone shield as a custom buff.

    i was assuming a low lv and low gear wizard

    implying a mixture of low hp and low pdef but relatively high mdef (as opposed to good gear wiz who has balanced mdef and pdef or higher pdef)


    generally pdef sharding is of more efficiency when you have really low pdef


    to make it easy:
    i would not recommend full garnet in any case
    go 50/50 if you are lower than lvl100

    if you are lvl 100+ we can expect you to know what to do yourself
    personal spending ability is the major issue here
    jostd are the best shards but not many can afford to spend 90~100mil on a single shard

    Sorry you're absolutely right it was late so I wrote it half way done


    I'm a lv55 wizard just doing PVE instances I've been used to just adding HP gems but I see some Higher levels wizards with phy def gems on their gear so thats why I asked because I was wondering if I'd eventually need the added phy def and from what level should I start adding them if they're needed.

    you can start partial pdef sharding as soon as you get new gear
    imo its worth it, since usually you have a really bad physical defense at those levels
    most unlikely to have ornaments with sufficient defensive boosts to even defenses out in that lvlrange
    i like potato
