Effective HP vs Real HP

I was curious to see if any promath archers have ever studied real vs effective hp.

What I mean by that is this... I have 16,170hp unbuffed.. boogiepanda has something like 11.8k unbuffed (i think?). However, I have 45 defense levels currently (merchanting coins to go back and switch shards to jades).. and boogie has 77-82 def levels I believe.

Therefore, I know that boogie takes less damage than I do, but I have more hp to absorb damage. But in my mind I can kind of picture boogie having more effective hp than I do.

I could have missed a thread about this. If that's the case link away.
