R9 3rd cast chiekung n gems n sockets

So a wizard on our server just recasted, and, either u put chiekungs or no for sockets, they get 4 sockets ( he didnt want to keep gems tho). I did my bow and payed chiekungs to keep 2 sockets as i wanted to keep the drakeflames. Idk but probably i feel that it would keeep the sockets if i kept only gems, but i think when i tried it said "need sockets" be4 keep the gems.

So i wanna do my armor and idk if to use just for gems and refine, seriusly cant we get this clarified somewhere pwi?

    you can't keep gems without keeping sockets
