Can the game client corrupt hard drives?

I've noticed the more I play this game the more reliability problems I have with my computer. The specific problems are data corruption, freezes and shut downs, classic signs of a failing hard drive. I would have replaced the hard drive already but I own an iMac and I'm too lazy to do the work of replacing a drive on this design. Also I plan on buying a new iMac as soon as updated models come out so that lessens my desire to put money into this one.
Anyway from the symptoms I would be convinced its the hard drive except the problem goes away when I don't play the game at all and becomes more frequent in proportion to how much I play the game.
Has anyone else experienced this and/or know the answer?
Also, fwiw, I am a mac guy who plays the game by dual booting. I really don't know much about windows and only use it to play this game so part of me wonders if this is one of those windows virus issues people complain about. But the problems happen when I boot from the mac partition too.

I tried the virus software sylent suggested and my drive was virus free, so I guess windows isn't as vulnerable as the hype claims.
I got some freeware to boost my fan speed past the factory settings and that seems to have fixed the problem. Maybe my drive became more vulnerable to heat as it aged. In addition to getting freezes running the game I was getting a few freezes watching movies too. Haven't had any problems since I boosted fan speed, hope this fixed the problem.AKA PermaSpark, Heartshatter0 -
Short answer, yes...anytime you play a third party client you are more prone to virus and symptoms of a hard drive corruption. I have spent a lot of money getting my computer fixed/ de-bugged over the 4 years I have played. I have avast, Malware, Norton and other cleaners, but I still will catch a bug every 6 months or so and my computer tech swears it is because of 3rd party games.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

If it's just freezes, and boosting the fan speed fixed it, that points to an overheating GPU (video card chip), and has nothing at all to do with corrupt files or a corrupted hard drive.
I'm curious, if it's just freezing, what makes you thing the hard drive data is corrupted?
Looking back at your description in the first post.... "The specific problems are data corruption, freezes and shut downs, classic signs of a failing hard drive."
I read you as listing those separately as in...
Specific problems are
A. Data Corruption
B. Freezes and shut downs
C. Classic signs of a failing hard drive
However, if you're assuming that the hard drive is corrupt because it's freezing like you just described, you would most likely be incorrect.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0
