Newbie Sin's Handbook (lv 1-30)

I just thought of making this thread because it's hard raising a Sin the traditional way (questing and grinding), so newbies who don't have friends that can fc them, or are like me and they don't want to fc, don't ragequit because they die all the time.
First things first. If you don't add any points to Vitality (vit), like me and use the pure build (look here for more info) you should expect to be really squishy.
Levels 1-9
General: These levels are pretty smooth, none of the mobs are very demanding so don't expect to die here if you use the starter gear. Also get your Genie from Watcher of the Earth. Genies are those little creatures that fly around the heads of players. They're not just for show though, Genies can use powerful skills if built correctly. More info on Genies here.
Skills: You also learn 3 skills during these levels which you will use until much later in the game. Puncture Wound (lv 3), which is the strongest bleed in game, Slipstream Strike (lv 6), which is one of your most powerful skills later on and Wind Push (lv 9), which gives you a speed boost for 10 seconds.
Learn Now, Use Later: Use Slipstream Strike and after it Puncture Wound. I don't know why, but Puncture Wound has half a metre more range than Slipstream Strike, so if you use it first you then need to waste a second to make a step and get in range for Slipstream. That may not be much now but later on a second may make the difference between life and death, so you better get used to it now.
Monsters: Monsters are a central part of the game. They're the main source of EXP, Spirit and income. Monsters are divided into 3 types: Melee, Magic and Ranged. Melee are the most common monsters, they attack you at close range with physical attacks.
Magic monster attacks are ranged and MAGIC, meaning your elemental defenses come into play. A good example of a low level magic monster is the Demonic Jellyfish, the monster you need to kill for your lv 9 Cultivation quest. It uses only water magic (tosses an ice block at you) and unlike most pure magic monsters, it doesn't run away to cast when you approach it (you will witness this in many of the later level monsters). However, many magic monsters also attack like a melee, if you're close to them. Since you're a Sin, you will be close to them so they will only manage to cast one spell before you're in range.
Ranged monster attacks are ranged and PHYSICAL. Monsters that are ranged don't appear for now, but you should know something about them. They run when you get in melee range, thus take more time to kill. They launch all sorts of projectiles at you (arrows, quills etc) and their damage is cut in half if you're on melee range.
Monsters also have upgrades and downgrades. They are: Increased Life (double monster HP), Increased Attack (double physical attack), Increased Movement Speed (double movement speed), Increased Defense (double physical defense), Increased Magic Attack (double spell damage), Increased Magic Resistance (double elemental resistance, this does not concern you), Elemental Immunity (immune to any kind of spell, again this does not concern you), Physical Immunity (immune to physical damage, this DOES concern you), Weak (all stats half, your lucky monster), Sacrificial Assault (all stats half EXCEPT attack, which is almost tripled).
Cultivation: Do your Cultivation quest at level 9 to learn Wind Push, Raving Slash and Tide Form. You also start gaining Chi with each use of a skill or attack now. Some skills require Chi to be cast, such as Raving Slash.
Crafting Skills: You learn these at level 5 and they allow you to make your own gear and potions. They are Blacksmith (weapon crafting skill), Tailor (armor crafting skill), Craftsman (ornament crafting skill, rings, belts and necklaces are ornaments) and Apothecary (potion crafting skill). These skills are leveled by crafting with them (eg if you craft an armor, your tailor skill will gain 1 proficiency). You can level them after they have gained 10 proficiency. But you can't just craft items, you need resources to make them.
Resources are divided in 3 types: The materials you can gather from the ground, such as Sandstone, the materials you get from killing monsters, such as Animal Fur and Jades, which you can buy from Merchant, but also drop from monsters. Merchant also sells Pickaxe, which costs 2000 coins and is used to gather materials from the ground (non consumable, you buy one and it lasts you forever).
Materials you can gather are divided into 5 types. Metal (such as Pig Iron from Iron ore), Wood (such as Logs from Withered tree root), Stones (such as Sandstone from, well, Sandstone Rock), Coal (such as Rough Coal Dust from Rough Coal Stack) and Herbs (such as Salvia Root or Nectar). Each time you gather, you get 1 of the materal you're gathering (2 if they're Herbs) but you rarely get an extra one (making it 2 for all other materials and 3 for Herbs)
NOTE: Don't open the Supply Stash for level 5 until you are level 10. Unlike other races, the weapon you get from level 5 Supply Stash is for level 10, not 5.
Levels 10-19
General: These levels are pretty smooth too, but you ARE starting to be in danger of dying to same level mobs. Use potions, start making Life Powder (15 Nectar, 10 Golden Herb) with Apothecary skill, meditate and in general do whatever you can to keep yourself alive.
Quests: Starting at level 13, you will get quests to get new gear. The gear you get is VERY good, and it also looks good so GET it and WEAR it. Also, at lvs 15-19 you only get one or two quests per lv, so if that's not enough for you to level up you will have to grind a tiny bit.
Skills: Not much to discuss on skills here, learn level one of every new skill you get, stop leveling Twin Strike (if you have leveled it at all) and Raving Slash (it's pretty useless) and keep Puncture Wound and Slipstream Strike maxed for your level. One skill that is worth mentioning is Shadow Walk. This is the Sin's stealth. It uses up 24 MP per second of stealth, meaning that since Sins have low MP it will drain your MP VERY quickly. It's fun to use at first, but don't use it while you're going to fight mobs or you will have no MP for your skills. Learn levels of it only if you have excess spirit and coins, it will be more useful later on.
Cultivation: Congrats on reaching lv 19, do your Cultivation again, learn level one of the skills available. You're now seeing that you are starting to run low on spirit so you can't level all skills simultaneously. Look here again to see which skills you should level and when.
Caves of Menaces: You get a quest at lv 19 (after you've finished your Cultivation) that requires you to kill Ocean Tusker. This is what equals to the fb19 of Humans, Untamed and Elves. Unlike fb19 though, you can't tab Ocean Tusker and there are no monsters between you and him. Caves of Menaces is located near your level 12-16 village, at a small island near the shoreline. ASK FOR HELP to finish this quest, you can't solo Ocean Tusker, he has a ton of HP, high def, high attack and tentacles. A high level player (probably 50+) can solo him though, so ask in the City of Raging tides for help.
Levels 20-30
Now you're going to Archosaur and start getting quests there. Before you go though, you have one last quest which you get and give in at City of Raging Tides. The quest is red in colour and asks you to kill Qingzi to get a Weapon Token. Qingzi is at an instance known as Hall of Deception (Secret Passage 2nd floor), which you will also run for your fb29.
Secret Passage: This instance has two floors. The first floor is public, everyone can come and go as they please, so you can go in and ask for help to kill Qingzi. You run around the first floor with your team, killing mobs, until you reach a portal taking you to the second floor (called Hall of Deception). The route to the portal is complicated so always follow your team and don't rush ahead because: 1. You will get lost, 2. The mobs are a much higher level than you so you ARE gonna die in a single hit (OHKO). Just follow your team through the first and second floor, stay behind if they ask you to and DON'T GO RUNNING AROUND BY YOURSELF. Also don't attack mobs on your own. With a little luck the run will be finished and you will go back to City of Raging Tides to get your reward. Psychics get a Soulsphere Mold for finishing it, but Sins get a Dagger Mold. There is also a chance that you will get a Mirage Celestone and in that case you're really unlucky.
Molds: You got one from your Red lv 20 quest (the one you had to kill Qingzi) or maybe even Qingzi dropped one when he died. You also see many of these in shops around Archosaur. So what are molds? Molds are special items used in crafting weapons that are much stronger than NPC weapons. The mold you got from the Qingzi quest is for crafting Soulreaper Blade. All molds are crafted using the crafting skills you learned at level 5 (Blacksmith, Tailor, Craftsman). Yes, there are no molds that require apothecary skill. The forges to craft molds are near General Summer (an NPC to which the West Archosaur apothecary introduces you. Those forges are labeled "Legendary Weapons Forge", "Legendary Armor Forge" and "Legendary Ornament Forge" As you can see, you need crafting skills level 2+ to craft molds, resources with which to craft them (resources you gather, like Pig Iron, Logs, Sandstone etc) and the mold itself.
General: These levels are mildly fast, you should expect deaths here, Life Powder, potions or Cleric buffs are a MUST here. You get a lot of quests too.
Quests: You can now start getting Divine Emissary of Light quests. To get them, you need a Divine Order of the Light, which is given to you by General Summer at level 20 for free. If you sell it or lose it though, you will have to pay General Summer 100k though to get a new one. Nothing special about other quests, just killing mobs and a few storyline quests, like the Ladywraith one (lv 26). You also get storyline quests at Earthguard city (Tellus City).
Skills: Prioritize your skills, you get a lot of them. Continue leveling up Puncture Wound and Slipstream Strike, level up Knife Throw and Deep Sting sparingly, don't level up Twin Strike and Raving Slash. At lv 29 you get a skill that helps you survive more, Rib Strike. While it has a damage comparable to Slipstream Strike, it has the bonus of lowering an enemy's attack speed. Slower enemy attacks=less hits on you=better survivability. Tackling Slash, which is also learned at lv 29, helps you stick ranged mobs to the same spot, thus making them easier to kill. Shadow Escape is your second invisibility skill, which allows you to stealth while in combat. This allows you to kill a monster, and stealth before its friends can get you. It also gives you a Spark (100 chi). Spark Eruption is your cheapest skill, as it costs only two digit numbers in spirit and coins. It increases your attack but you lose a Spark. Use it when you can, and it will make you kill monsters much quicker.
Monsters: Now that you're in Archosaur, monsters are much more nasty. You have ranged monsters, magic monsters, slow monsters, quick monsters, self-buffing monsters, big monsters, small monsters etc.
Melee monsters can now cast debuffs. A good example is the Arboride Dryad outside of Archosaur which casts a slowing debuff on you (reducing your movement speed).
Some melee monsters will suck up your life and replenish theirs if theirs is low. Monsters that do this are: Lyncean Hunters (lv 21 greenish cats), Treeline Wolfkins (lv 22 blue wolves with bordeaux manes), Heartless Wolves (lv 22 black wolves with white markings) and White-Eyed Wolfkins (lv 23 wolves that are like Heartless Wolves but larger). When those monsters' health is below 1000 they will run back and appear to be immobile but in fact they're casting the skill that sucks up your life. So if you see that their HP is below 1000 USE SLIPSTREAM AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE TO FINISH THEM OFF. Life suckers are also the Enticing Jumbies near the entrance to Secret Passage (though they're not purely melee, they also attack with the life-sucking spell from range).
Some magic monsters cast a Wood Damage over Time (DoT) spell on you if you're close enough but not in melee range. A common example are the Venomous Ghouls. If you see them casting (green balls circling around their feet) use Deep Sting to try to sleep them so you can interrupt the channeling. If sleep fails, you will just have to live with the DoT, the damage it does isn't THAT much but try to avoid it whenever possible
Some Fire-element Monsters also explode. The Lava Shells (lv 27) you see strolling around outside of West Archosaur for example do. That means, when you kill them they do an enormous amount of damage on you, and reduce your movement speed. In general, any monster shaped like the Lava Shell or like a Lantern (air monsters or monsters inside Secret Passage 2nd floor) will explode so take extra care.
Cultivation: This time, the cultivation is a chain of quests. They start at level 21 (kill Ghouls, Wolves and Rhinodrakes), continue at level 24 (kill a ton of different monsters and some minibosses) and end at 29 (kill some more monsters and a boss). More info here. Since you're a Sin, get help for those minibosses and boss, you can't solo them.
At level 30 you get a quest like the level 20 one, but this time you need to kill Hercule Trioc inside Gate of Delirium, which is also your fb39.
Gate of Delirium: This instance is really long and dangerous, there are so many corridors, and rooms. Also there are 3 bosses. Monsters inside here include: Giant Chickens, Dwarf Archers, Exploding Beetles (like the Lava Shell I talked about before), Weird Women and many more. There are also three bosses. You need a team for Gate of Delirium, or a lv 95+ friend, this is a hard dungeon. Just follow your team (or friend) and stay behind them.
Don't go attacking anything on your own, you know, same as I said in Secret Passage.
If you've finished that you get a lv 30 Dagger mold, Mold:Screamer Dual Thorns. You need lv 3 Blacksmith to craft them.
FURTHERMORE:
1. Tide Form, skill you learn at lv 9 says it transforms you into a fish, but in fact, you turn into a merman/mermaid. It's a really fun skill to use when you need to get somewhere and there's a body of water nearby. To use it you must be fully inside the water and you can't use any skills as a merman/mermaid.
2. Check the mosters surrounding your target, if they are aggresive and you move in range they might attack you while you're attacking the target monster, thus killing you. That problem is greater if they have the Sacrificial Assault or Increased Attack attributes.
3. Never attack a monster if your HP is below 25%. As I said, pure build Sins are super squishy, so you might die if you're low on HP.
4. Have a backup plan. Sometimes a critical skill misses so it wreack your chances of killing the monster. Try to have another skill ready to use before the monster kills you. Granted, as a high dexterity class we don't miss very often but it does happen.
5. Focused Mind, skill you learn at lv 19, isn't very useful at low levels. Have it on whenever you fight magic monsters, just don't rely on it to make a skill miss, it probably won't. It never has on me.
6. I encourage you to search the forums for every tiny bit of info you can get. Knowledge is power.
Thank you for the time you took reading this, any suggestions will be appreciated...

Psychics get only a Mirage Celestone for finishing it, but Sins get a weapon mold.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

ironic since most new players are actually alts who travel straight to FF.
But yeah apart from the mold mistake , it's a humble and ok attempt to answer questions[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Well I hope I'm not the only Sin that levels manually b:surrender
I wouldn't go to FF, FC, Whatever even if they paid me 10m. For 20m I might...
Anyway, I tried my best in making this, I don't think there is much else I can teach a -30 Sin.0 -
As i said it's a good attempt , indeed you are not the only one who levels the *normal* way. Just pointing out that it is ironic given the current awful situation of the game[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Thanks. I tried my best, but now I remembered there are some things missing. I haven't added monster types and some other minor stuff...0 -

I wouldn't go to FF, FC, Whatever even if they paid me 10m. For 20m I might...
Anyway, I tried my best in making this, I don't think there is much else I can teach a -30 Sin.Demon_Troll: "takes on the appearance of an innocent archer but turns into a mindless idiot once you hear him speak"

Just raise a cleric and barb on alt box along with your sin.Be kind: Help the GMs to depopulate the servers.0

Well people may not look at the PW database, so it's good to have them here just in case someone asks. And PW database doesn't have info on upgrades and downgrades, which is a small detail but influences gameplay a lot...Typhyse - Sanctuary wrote: »I started doing FCC properly (actual runs) when I was 74. Good for you b:victoryJust raise a cleric and barb on alt box along with your sin.

Well I thought it would be a good idea to have a guide for the newbie Sin here. Deep down though, I know that no newbies will ever look at it, that I just made it to satisfy a personal need to offer some info...
It will be buried under countless other posts and be forgotten until PWI dies or deletes the Tideborn...0 -
