Created new char... how do I fly w/out using MP?

I used to play this game long long ago and I do not remember flying as a flying elf used up your MP. You could fly forever and it used nothing. Now game tells me I need some kind of stone or something so my MP will not expire while flying? Where do I get this?

Ignore whatever told you that. As a Cleric, you don't need anything to "fly forever". Archers on the other hand, need a charm or need to add magic to their stats in order to fly forever.

Mayfly - Dreamweaver

Winged elves use 2 MP/sec to fly using natural wings. Clerics have enough regen to not lose MP from level 1 while flying; archers lose MP until either they get an item with MP recovery, increase their mag to 20 to increase their natural MP recovery to 2/sec to cover the loss, or get the level 15 temp stash wings/level 30 quest wings/boutique wings that don't need MP to fly.

Riverwell - Archosaur

Basically it doesn't matter because archer or cleric, you get free wings at lvl 30 that don't use up mp, and you'll (probably) either use those or end up buying a botique pair. (ofc there are those people who use the elven ones late game and just max... what is it, winged blessing? that makes them go faster)
