I am going to be playing a veno now but I'm unsure which way to go. I'm going to give you all the info I can about how I like to play. Then tell me what stats and if I should be human or fox veno.

My play style:

I do not plan on getting herc or nix ever just because they are way to much money. Prefered pet would be a wolf of some kind but I will not make this a for sure thing. Any pet ideas would be welcomed but leave herc and nix out of it. I would prefer to not sit there and spam heal my pet all day every day of every week.

I'm going to be more focused on PvE rather then PvP but will still do territory wars. I have a stong belief that every class should solo for the first 50 levels or so, so I will be doing that (this is not includeing dungeons, I'm not that suicidal). I do prefer close combat but I am fine with ranged combat if it would be better. I dont want to get into high level mobs and say "how are you doing" and then next thing I know the revive button pops up (this is important!!!!!!).

I'm not rich so give me a build practical, but dont think that means give me the cheapest build in the game. I'm willing to spend money when I get it and I know how to make a little money here and there.

My thoughts:

I am a tank at heart which is why I do so many stupid things like run up to something which will one hit me, however I hate just takeing damage and doing nothing else which is one reason why I wont play barb (miss miss miss miss miss miss, I have the power!!!! miss, out of mana. meditate for the next half hour). I'm thinking perhaps a LA veno human/fox but I've read in some places that is more for PvP and I'm going to be staying away from PvP as much as possible. There is also HA but my problem with that is the stats, I need str to use the HA but I need a ton of MAG to keep up on my weapon for damage.

What are your thoughts on what I should become? Please give your reason for thinking so or I wont take it seriously. Lastly if anyone wants to recommened a different class go right ahead but give a reason and try to make the class sound as interesting as possible.

To anyone who is curious as to my other reason why I dont like the barb its because to be an affective tank as a barb you have to be in white tiger form and I just dont like that form for some reason. The only other way to be affective is have you team sit there for 10 mins letting you gain agro before they attack. Also miss miss miss miss miss miss.

Don't create a Light Armor veno. Venomancers aren't meant to take hits (that's what the pets are for!) so it's a waste to equip LA. There is a nice crit bonus to those who choose to add dex for the armor, but it isn't worth scrapping the magic for spells and pet heals.
I've made one myself and found it wasn't worth being a little less squishy.

The best build for Venomancer in my opinion is 8mag 1str 1vit every two levels. You need 1 strength point for your arcane robes, 1 vitality for a little hp in case you steal aggro or your pet dies (this is optional, you can choose to go full magic for even better dmg dealing/heals..just personal preference) , and 8mag for dmg dealing/pet heal.

If you're a tank at heart, perhaps you should make a Seeker? I've played one before, very fun and versatile class. Using the right build they can tank fairly well. Can deal Physical as well as Magic damage, and has a bit of range on it for those annoying kiting mobs. Wears heavy armor, standard tank build is 5 str 3 dex 2 vit every two levels. Although, as I said it's a versatile class and you can allocate those 2 vit points into strength or dexterity if you prefer to be more of a damage dealer.r

First and foremost, if you want to take advantage of the full potential of your venomancer you need to use both forms. Both skill trees provide you with valuable skills. Here is a quick guide I wrote a while back as an introduction (of some sort) to the skills of venos click me!

Whatever information you need on builds, pets, genies etc. visit the Useful Venomancer links here on the forums (it's a sticky so you should be ble to find it).

Personally, I wouldn't suggest you HA because that is one complicated build. Unless you're sure about yourself and you know what you are doing, stay away from it. Also, HA is not necessarily PvP build, albeit it's most popular for TW uses. I do know people who don't PvP though and are HA build.

I wouldn't suggest LA either. It's easier than HA as a build and it's pretty fun (I've tried all builds btw) but endgame wise it's rather weak. HA get more physical defence, AA get more magic defence (certainly you can always switch to AA if you're LA or HA).

As a newcomer to venomancers and judging by your playstyle I'd suggest a hybrid build. Personally I went with a hybrid build and then I started removing Vit points as I got better gear.

You say you like to charge in and be reckless. That doesn't necessarily require HA or LA build in my opinion. I'm AA and I'm very reckless. I honestly don't like having my pets tanking (unless it's boss/elite mob(s) that can kill me) and hold back XD I prefer to be in the front lines with it so I usually take damage. Either way, the build your follow is your choice. If you're interested I'll post your my build.

I'll also suggest trying seeker though, if you like tank-type classes.

First of all veno seems the class for you , since you like both types of combat.

Light armor builds are generally not quite good. Ull be a mediocre caster and a mediocre fox fighter. Ull have no Vit due to armor and magic weapon requirement (3 mag 1 str 1 dex) so your HP will suck too and unlike other LA close combat classes (assassin) you lack both the APS and Bloodpaint heals.

I recommend starting a Arcane robes build ( 1 str 9 mag or 1 str 2 vit 7 mag till vit is 40-60) It's easy with good MP, magic attack (and heals) and lets you grind with no problems .

At lvl 90 or 100 (prefferably) you can always restat to Heavy armor or a mix of arcane heavy to suit your playstyle needs. It is easier at high lvl cause ull have better armor and ornament choices ( as well as tomes for extra Str Dex which you can use to save points for magic)

As for pets Dark Wanderer , Armored Bear , Petite Sawfly , Varicose Scorpion , Eldergoth Marksman , Lunar lupin and many more are good choices for PVE and TW.

For PVP , most pets are 1-2 shotted , that's why phoenix is usually preferred it survives the most , still dies nonetheless. U wil lbe able to get one later in the game when money comes faster but it is your choice

My lvl 90 HA Raziyal is a full HA veno, I love tanking to i do have an 80 barb but i got really bored tbh. (tank FC now btw)

Do not go LA it is a waste in my opinion.

HA veno is for people who know how to work one. Its a hard build to get a r8 wep but it is possible, You just need to make sure everythings correct. It is expensive if you want to go fully PvP HA build like i am (though you said your avoiding PvP as much as possible)
If you wish to tank without a legendary pet like a herc or nix i would say go for HA, just have to make sure you figure out how to get the magic for the wep you use at the higher lvl. It really is alot to think about.

Raziyal (and i have purposly done this so Other venos don't get mad >.>) stuck her on a lvl 70 legendary wep and given her tt90 HA gear until i can get the gear at lvl 100 i wish and the tome i will get her the 300 mag for r8.

HA build is mainly used for pure fox forms and never really any magic.
If you wish for HA please consider that you will have people picking you up on saying this and thats fail etc.

Though you can tank as a full AA veno in fox form, even though squishy it is possible if you shard etc properly...

If you really LOVE tanking things go HA build but remember it can be expensive >.< depending on the server... And PLEASE reasearch on the build before taking any chances.

    Take in that...

Are you going to go AA till lvl 90+ and restat?
Or are you going to go full HA from lvl one.

There is another option in AA/HA venos which also works. (i despise them tbh not my kinda build) A mix with AA gear and HA gear that can tank and DD.

I had to work out my build and spam things randomly and it actually worked HAHA in my amazement.
    i do have a 103 HA veno.
I reasearch and didn't like the builds i got so i made up my own and figured what i needed.

    Well good luck <3
Edit: If your a first time Veno in the game start out as AA then see what happens due to you may not like the class.
If your sure of your self try out an HA build their fun but complicated to make haha. If you wish to know my build i have now let me know :D
though you will have a wep lower than your lvl about 2x to 3x lower of ur level.
If you are familier with a veno Try it out have fun and even do a few mistakes.
