When gearing a wizard?

Ok, well it's been well over 2 years since I last played the wizard class and seeing as how I miss the big numbers popping up on my screen (and damascene ore is becoming more and more of a ***** to find =__=), I figured I would make one and start playing it again.


Now I am going to frost it up to at least lvl 80 so that I can skip over all the repeative quest lines, and can get straight to the good gear.

So with that in mind, what would our more expert wizzy crowd say for gearing wise on a lvl 80 wizard? (Please note that unless really needed I don't want to r8 this wizard...though if I do obtain the cash to do so, I more than likely will)

If you're p-lvling to 80 go for molds, P-lvling to 90 go for what Nurfed put down but I'd change the wep to an aquadash, and I'm not fond of those sleeves but they're okay

the reason i chose that weap is because if she doesnt go r8 she can get the 90 weap that decomps to the 99 crit sword

Tbh I'd recommend going r8 simply because I think it's way cheaper than the non-r8 equivalent, and with so many r8 wizards out there you'd have a tough time competing with those wizards for spots in caster nirvana, delta, etc. Not to mention you'd get destroyed in pk.

terrible build is terrible

sorry but 80 green gear is a complete waste of time/coin.

80 green wrsits are the only half decent 80green because they decomp to make the 90 gold wrists. pre 90 it really doesnt matter what your gear looks like long as you can get your hp above 3k so you dont get one hit by boss aoe's in fc. nothign else should really hit you.

as far as post 90, my gear build is pretty much teh cheapest/survivability build you can make. the warsoul helm is nice if you already have it though.

I mean when the wizzy makes it to 95 I plan to upgrade it to lunar gold gear, but until then I don't want to waste too much coin on it (minus the leveling cost of course)

TT80 green really is awful. You can make it through 8x just fine with the 70 gold pants, 77 gold cape, 77 gold wrists, and I personally used the 59 gold boots before 9x because I didn't see a point in getting the 80 gold ones :b

pretty much what he said. if you want i guess i can make a pwcalc of the mold gear. if you arent going to go full recast with the lunar gold gear, then its a waste. 90green pants are better and 90 gold sleeves are better. both are cheaper. tt90top/lunar top are pretty much = except that you can recast the lunar top.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that your making this wizard for tw. If so, dont worry about what yoru gear is liek pre 100. just save up adn go with something like http://pwcalc.com/1ec332295d00053c

Not terribly expensive, you can do monday event and get tishas for all the +7 gear even +8 on your weap. 200 cannies for 1st cast bracers/boots isnt hard either if your bm is 5aps(you've been aroudn a while so i assume it is).

its basically something like taht build, or r9. If you get better garnet shards you can replace the tt90 pants with nirvana pnats but that jsut ups the cost for a little more survivability.

if a wizard is just for fun, then like i said earlier, hp>3k you can do most of hte pve in the game

Yeah my bm is 5.0+10 with demon dragons, got a sin at 4.0+7 (will be 5.0 if I ever get it NV daggers...). So farming and getting coin isn't an issue for me.


What I plan for this wizard is PVP and TW. PvE wise I will leave that for my sin and bm, as this wizard is something I plan to basically put in a TW guild (which on my server is only a handful or so) and just enjoy being able to drop an AoE and nail a multitude of people at once and kill at least half of them. So truthfully said I was considering either a full r8 recast or full r8 type of set-up with at least +5-+7 on gear and wep at +8-11. (Adding in I CS, plus any coin I farm. So getting gear isn't hard for me)

But with that said, what do you think would be the best set-up at lvl 90/100? Should I focus on getting gear at 90, or just get some 90 green and focus on lvl 100 gear?

i would grab your tt90 pants at least. you can solo 3-1 a couple times if i remember right and get them. r9>nv>tt90>lunar as far as AA pants go. the top is a waste of time really, the boots suck and so the the green wrists. if your getting r8 recast/vana something liek taht i'd plan accordingly. i generally like the build i posted due to the xtra bit of channeling while still maintaining decent crit rate. slap 2nd cast nv pants on it and your up to 30%. only need 27% to sleep>ulti which is how i like to end my 1v1's. with full r9 you kind of have to improvise a little to get a good ulti off at the perfect time. i mostly use sleep>ult>cancel to make someone waste AD lololol

it really just depends on what gear you want as to what you should get. if your going full lunar recast, obviously you have to farm lunar gear and you'd skip tt90 gear. vis versa for tt recast. i believe harshlands has 1 full r8 recast mage. idk if their gear is any good....i kind of one hit them with pyro...inb4r9isopcomments.

Well, after getting to see such lovely damage at lowbie levels I have decided to offically go with r9 for end-game at +10-12 refines. Though it will take me a bit to farm (probably 2-3 months since I can't no-life anything but a x2 ), but before I get to the rank 9 level what would you recommend me that would last that long and have a possible resell value if unbound?

maybe 1st 2nd cast lunar pieces. thats all i know that will eventually sell that is decent to pk in and thats 4 pieces of armor to resell and keeping hte helm/cape

bad cape is bad perses. get the pdef wing trophy if anything. other then that, it isnt such a bad build. the lunar weap is kind of a waste but if you plan to recast its whatever. overall, not bad

Uh oh, I agree with DaKill again. WTF is happening?

If you want to TW on your wizard (and if you don't, why be a wizard?), rank 8 is the minimum weapon choice.

For anything prior to level 100 now, spend as little as possible on your gear and save for rank 8. That does mean molds, 3* gear with +hp, +pdef, etc. If you feel the need to spend anything on lower level gear, spend it on a gold frostcovered city weapon like aquadash or sensoid emptiness. You can use it for 15 levels, its g12 so refines reasonably well, and with aquadash you can still hit some reasonably big numbers. If you can't find one for 10-12m on your server, buy up 9,999 of the past of frostcovered city mats (at 10k each = 10m) and make an aquadash.

Yes, lose the cleric/veno cape and get glorious robe of torment (with the pink wing trophy) - last one I saw on our server was only 25m - which is a steal for+432 pdef and approx +26 stat points.

And tt90 green boots are stupid. TT80 gold or good OHT or any piece of scrap from the auction house should be better. Or farm the g10 version of the dancing sparkle. They supposedly refine at g14 and during 2x drops it only takes a matter of days I am told . . . .

I'd also say no to consistent frost. Level old school, it'll give you a much better feel of your class.

You don't want to get R8 for it but you're going to get lunar gold gear for it? Last I checked Lunar gold gear if you get the top alone is almost like half way there to R8.

But yeah I agree with the overall message here, if you want the "big numbers" and I assume you mean in TW you're going to need R8. The average geared TWer nowadays is nothing like it was when you may have last played a wizard. Back then TT99 crit sword could do omfgwtfhax damage, now if you have anything below R8/Nirv you're going to tickle people.

I also suggest not to spend any money until level 100, roll with mold gear till you hit your level 100 mark then get your items. AA refines for ****, the add ons on most AA are ****. Get decent p.def ornaments and the wing trophy cape as suggested and you'll be fine in instances until you hit 100.
